“We lost track of how many time we’ve gone with Samantha. I think it’s around 9 or 10 now. She’s always the best, is great at communicating with us, and sends us tons of pictures! She’s the absolute best! Look no further for the best in Roanoke for your fur babies.”

“Fantastic! John was great with communication before and throughout Manny’s stay. Made sure I was comfortable leaving my baby boy and sent me photos every day. Manny seemed right at home with him, and I was at ease. Thank you so much for caring for my boy!”

“Lawdy is an excellent sitter, very sweet and professional! She took care of my two boys like they was here very own, and they absolutely took to her, she gave more that a few daily updates, and that was very very comforting, and when Lawdy returned them to us, you could absolutely tell Brutus and Zeus was happy. They would run to us then back to her, I can’t say enough thank you’s to her… we highly recommend her and I will be using her services in the future”

“We had an absolutely wonderful experience with Shawn! We left our two Yorkies, Brooklyn and Charlie, in her care, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. From the beginning, Shawn made us feel completely comfortable and confident that they were in great hands. She was incredibly caring, attentive, dependable, and treated Brooklyn and Charlie as if they were her own. It gave us tremendous peace of mind knowing they were with someone who genuinely cared about them and made sure they were happy, comfortable, and well looked after while we were away. Leaving your dogs with someone else can always be a little stressful, but Shawn made the entire experience easy and worry-free. We came home to two happy Yorkies, which says everything! We would absolutely trust Shawn with Brooklyn and Charlie again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy, compassionate, and exceptional pet sitter. She truly went above and beyond, and we feel very fortunate to have found her. Five stars without question!”

“Mac & his dog Beaker were friendly & welcoming. Murphy was with them 2 nights before being picked up by my daughter-in-law. She reported an easy pickup & that Mac had everything ready to go. Mac had reported that Murphy fit right in.”

“This was our second booking with Rover and again we were VERY pleased with our Sophie’s stay. They loved her as we do and incorporated her into their family! They kept us updated with many pictures of her stay which was very comforting when you leave your beloved pet. We would definitely recommend this sitter and will rebook them when in the area again. A plus rating from us and Sophie!!”

“Our 5 year old spaniel has stayed/boarded overnight with Nancy multiple times over the last several years! Upon our recent arrival to her home for a 'drop off ', our dog bounded over, tail wagging, to greet Nancy and her dog DeeDee; she was clearly happy and excited to be there! I have complete trust and confidence in Nancy, and know that she gives our dog a safe, loving, and fun 'home away from home' in our absence!”

About: I’ve grown up with many cats and dogs and have also taken care of many family members pets for many years! And I currently work at a doggy daycare which has taught me a lot about different dog behaviors and how to handle them! I’m currently working part time at a dog daycare so i’ll have plenty of time to spend time with your dogs and/or cats! My schedule is usually three days a week for about 4 hours most days but some days it will be 6 hours! I will follow any given instructions to keep your pet safe and happy! I have very good knowledge with leash safety for walks and crate safety if needed!
“Every time we drop our dogs over there, they come back happy and tired from having a lot of exercise and fun with the other dogs. I would definitely recommend leaving your dog with them. I would definitely use them again also.”
“Always responsive. Knowledgeable about animals. Her pup is now our pups new best friend. Our pup runs to her door when he gets out of the truck. When that happens you know she is good to them <3”

“Russell was in great hands with Vanda. She took great care of him and sent plenty of pictures. We spend quite a bit of time in Lynchburg and hope to ask her to watch him again.”

About: I am a stay at home Mom and would love to help other pet owners be at ease knowing their pets are being taken care of while you’re at work or out of town. Being at home allows me to be very flexible with the care you need. My family has both a dog and cat at home, so I’m familiar with the care needed for both. I’ve also cared for an elder dog before needing insulin administered. I am a stay at home mom, so my schedule is very flexible to work with your needs! I’m happy to work with you! I have a large un-fenced yard surrounded by woods; supervised time outside only and on a leash unless you and I both are confident in obedience to come when called. I have a small dog at home who prefers a cuddle buddy over a play mate, but she is friendly with most dogs and loves cats! In the event I leave home I prefer crating until I get to know your pup.
“Meeting Gretchen I knew right away she was willing and committed to taking care of our Daisy Lucille as we are!!! Daisy is 9 years old and has medications to take for CCL injuries that require her to be on a leash for potty breaks and being outside and can take short walks. She kept us informed of their days and shared everything Daisy did in her care. We are so lucky to have her help and so convenient where we live.”

About: I’ve had dogs and cats around me for most of my life, from growing-up on a farm in Maryland to working large animal husbandry at the Virginia Tech Veterinary School to sharing a 1-bedroom studio with two cats in Roanoke City, and I’ve always loved all animals. All! Right now, I have one dog and three cats of my own, and they are very much part of my family. I’m comfortable caring for both dogs and cats with different personalities and needs. I enjoy walks, playtime, and just hanging out with them and giving them attention. I know how important it is to have someone you can trust with your pets when you’re away, and I’ll care for yours just like I care for my own. I’m currently in the process of my Pet-CPR/First Aid certification. I’m working a flexible schedule (as a Referee). When I’m at work, Nalini (my wife), will be there at home with your pet. So, your pet would never be there alone day or night. The most respect, care, compassion, and hugs!! There’s separate pet living spaces in my house for accommodating your pets needs, and we have a friendly and vaccinated dog.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
94% of sitters in Abbott can provide daily exercise during dog boarding stays. Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, this may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Abbott home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Abbott.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You and your Abbott sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
Adding another pup to the pack? Most sitters and walkers offer a reduced rate for additional dogs. You’ll find these exact rates listed under the "Services" tab on any sitter's profile. Since every dog is unique, final pricing may vary depending on the level of care required.
