“Erin speaks dog! It took no time for her to win approval from my shy pup. She is also a good communicator with humans. Erin is punctual and respectful, plus she is great at remembering my dog’s needs.”

“We had a wedding to attend in Sleepy Hollow. Heidii was our first call and first time using Rover.com. And I was pleasantly surprised she wanted to meet Finley before her designated work time. She was lovely. Her daughter is also working for Rover.com so I encourage you to use her as well. Finley was very well taken care of as if we never left the house. I needed her for around her dinner time so she came in and fed her and walked her and played with her, even moved some shoes out of the way just in case. 😊 she was sad leaving her and sent a cute pic. If you live in Westerly or Watch Hill, Rhode Island or anywhere near, I highly suggest calling Heidii.”

“Kaitlin did a fabulous job with our two dogs. Her updates with photos were wonderful. She was reliable and professional. I highly recommend Kaitlyn and will certainly rebook in the future.”

“Isis did a great job taking care of my pets. I had peace of mind knowing they were left in good hands. She responded to my messages very quickly, and kept me informed. My dog was being a little difficult for her, but she worked it out. She made sure all of my pets were safe and well cared for. I highly recommend her!”

About: I absolutely love all animals and am so excited to care for yours. I have had multiple dogs and cats growing up, watching them over weeks/weekends and also dog sitting family-friends pets. I also grew up taking care of horses so I feel comfortable around different animal and how to handle them in unique situations. I have my own pug and a yellow lab so I have experience with small and big dogs. My pets are my world and I will treat yours as my own. I am currently a student at the University of Rhode Island. I am a junior so I have my car and live off campus in Narragansett. I have mornings and nights off so I have plenty of time and love for your pet. I will care for pets like they are my own. I will follow any directions that the owners wish for their pet and make sure to do what is needed to keep the pets happiest while they are with me. I understand the importance of keeping pets on a routine and comfortable in their space while also giving them what they need to be happy and safe with me.
About: I’ve wanted a dog since my childhood dog passed away when I was 8. My parents never got another but now that I am living by myself I have a ton of love to give to any dog that comes to stay. I currently work full time but any free time I would love to fit your dog in my schedule! Reach out and we can figure something out. My apartment complex has a dog park right next to my apartment so I will utilize that to get the dog outside and moving around. The apartment is pretty spacious, so the dog won’t be cramped in a single bedroom all day.
“Emily has been absolutely phenomenal! From the very beginning, she has been reliable, communicative, and incredibly thoughtful in caring for our home and animals while we were away. She is trustworthy, dependable, and truly treats your pets and home as if they were her own. It is such a relief to know everything is in such capable hands while we’re away. We couldn’t recommend her more highly and will absolutely be asking her to watch our animals again in the future!”

“Eden did a great job caring for my cats. It was reassuring to see the picture of my nervous kitty come out for her during the first visit! She went above and beyond. I will definitely hire her again!”

About: I’ve taken care of dogs, cats and other animals since I was a little kid, and for others for about 5 years now. Whether it is training or just hanging out, your pets needs are always met. I work Monday through Friday , 8am - 5pm. I am able to be somewhat mobile during those days, specifically during the lunch hour! Weekends are normally free as well! Your pets safety and well being is my utmost concern, and with the years of experience under my belt, you can be rest assured that your pets are safe.
About: Having cared for 13 dogs and 4 cats (yes, we keep count), we've seen it all. Daily exercise and even bathing is quite familiar to us. Leo has hands-on experience with animal shelters, and I have biological based experience with both nutritional needs and animal anatomy, and we both can provide basic training. We currently have a year-old golden retriever and a tabby! We've dealt with a couple lovable (but difficult) pets and can deal with issues like stubbornness, biting, and basic potty training. Leo works from home, and I'm a commuter-basically, there's always someone home! We are both the "outdoorsy" type and frequent the devil's hop yard, as well as hike through our property. As STEM majors, animals keep us sane! We can also transport your pets (we have the seating and everything). Our property has a spacious (but secure) 100-acre forest, perfect for supervised walks and exploration! At home, our pets—a friendly Golden Retriever and a sweet Tabby—ensure your furry friend will never feel lonely. We can also provide crate time if needed for safety or comfort, and (given our flexibility) tailor care routines to meet each pet’s needs!

“Roger ROCKS! He took great care of our doggies while we were away, and truly cared to make sure they were comfortable and happy. We arranged for daily house-sitting while we were away, and couldn’t have been happier; Roger even swept up the house and deck, cleaned up the dog crates, and even did a bit of weeding — all of his own volition! It was great knowing the dogs were in good hands, and a big treat to come back to an even cleaner house. We’ll definitely be checking in with Roger next time we’ll be going away!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
