“Our dog Pika boarded with Audrey for the first time for a 4 night stay. Pika really seemed to enjoy her stay, and I appreciated the daily updates and wonderful photographs! Given that our dog can be a little nervous in new settings, I was impressed from the start that she really seemed comfortable, and I could tell that Audrey has a lot of experience related to dogs. Overall very impressed and will plan to use Audrey again without any hesitation.”

About: Loving, Experienced Dog Care You Can Trust 🐾 I have been caring for dogs for over 20 years and have experience with many different breeds, personalities, and needs. Dogs have always been a huge part of my life, and caring for them is something I truly love. Over the years, I have cared for my own dogs as well as family members’ pets, including my sister’s five Huskies and my two Heelers, who were part of my family for 12 and 10 years. One of my Heelers developed Type 1 diabetes, and I proudly cared for him for five years, administering daily insulin and making sure he received the extra attention and care he needed. Because of this experience, I am comfortable caring for dogs who require medications or additional medical attention. Last year, I welcomed Maverick into my home at the beginning of July, followed shortly after by Zero. More recently, I opened my home to Blue, who came from a shelter. Blue has been doing wonderfully, and watching the boys help teach Blue new skills has been such a rewarding experience. Our home is full of love, activity, and plenty of tail wags! We make homemade dog treats every week, enjoy car rides, and never turn down a good walk. I believe dogs thrive when they receive patience, affection, consistency, exercise, and plenty of individual attention. I am transitioning into retirement from a traditional job so that I can spend more of my time doing something I genuinely love—caring for dogs. Whether your pup needs walks, playtime, companionship, medication, or simply a safe and loving place to stay, I would be honored to care for them as if they were part of my own family. Your dog’s comfort, safety, and happiness are my top priorities. I understand how difficult it can be to leave your furry family member in someone else’s care, and my goal is to give you peace of mind while you’re away. 🐶 Pet care will be a major part of my daily and weekly life because I am transitioning into retirement from a traditional job and will be dedicating my time to caring for dogs. This gives me the flexibility to make pet care my priority rather than trying to fit it around another full-time job. My days will be centered around the dogs in my care, including regular walks, playtime, feeding schedules, potty breaks, companionship, and plenty of one-on-one attention. I also enjoy incorporating fun activities like car rides, outdoor time, and making homemade treats. Because I will have a flexible schedule, I can accommodate different routines and needs, including dogs who require medication, extra supervision, or additional attention. I understand that every dog is different, and I’m happy to maintain their normal routine as closely as possible so they feel comfortable and secure while they’re away from home. I look forward to making pet care a meaningful part of my everyday life and providing dogs with a safe, loving, and home-like environment while their families are away. I provide a safe, loving, and fun home environment where dogs can feel comfortable and truly enjoy their stay. I have a fully fenced yard and a multi-level home with plenty of space for dogs to play, explore, relax, and get comfortable in their own way. During the warmer months, we make the most of the outdoors with multiple doggy pools, sprinklers, playtime, and plenty of opportunities to run and have fun in the fenced yard. I also enjoy keeping things exciting with crafts, seasonal activities, and fun holiday photos so your pup can be part of the family while they’re here. I believe every dog deserves individual attention, so I take the time to learn their routine, personality, and specific needs. Whether your pup wants to play, go for walks, snuggle, or simply relax, I’ll make sure they receive plenty of love and attention. Communication with pet parents is also very important to me. I provide daily updates, including photos and information about how your pup is doing, eating, playing, and settling in. My goal is for you to feel confident knowing your dog is safe, happy, loved, and being cared for like one of my own while you’re away. 🐾❤️

“Cara was great with my dog, her and her family spent a ton of time with my big smelly bloodhound, they took her on a bunch of walks and hikes and sent me photos of their adventures together. When I picked her up after three days, she was super happy and excited but would consistently go back and give loves to Cara and her family. I will definitely be contacting her again to watch my Dog. I highly recommend you give her a try. She was amazing and the price was perfect. Thanks Cara to you and your awesome family for being so good to my girl.”

“This was our dog's first boarding experience and he loved it! Erin sent videos and updates of Odie throughout the whole week which helped ease our mind especially when Odie's ear infection got pretty nasty (staffys are prone to ear infections), but she helped clear it up pretty good by the time of pick up. Erin will definitely be our go to sitter from now on.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.

Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.

During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Virginia home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Virginia.

<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You and your Virginia sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in ID ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
