Katherine was excellent. We were away for the weekend for a memorial service, and it was such a relief knowing our cats — and home — were in good hands. Katherine kept us updated throughout the day with messages and photos, which made it easy to relax while we were gone. The house was spotless when we got home, and both cats were clearly at ease. One especially sweet moment: our more reserved cat, who’s very affectionate with us but slow to warm up to new people, climbed into Katherine’s lap within the first hour. That’s never happened before — in nearly ten years. Katherine also went out of the way to check our basement for possible flooding during the Nor’easter, which we really appreciated. I booked based on great reviews, and now I see why. We’ll absolutely ask Katherine back.

It is really stressful leaving your dog for a weekend, especially when you’ve been together all day, everyday during the pandemic. Stacy though eased our anxiety completely and she couldn’t have taken better care of our dog. She was friendly and loving towards our dog Mikey when they first met...she stayed and hung out with him to make him less anxious when we were away..and sent us pictures/updates every time she went to see him. I would give more than 5 stars if I could. I highly, highly recommend Stacy for anyone who needs a dog sitter. We ll definitely be using her again in the future.

About: I've owned and cared for animals my whole life, from cats and dogs to snakes and chinchillas. My fur babies are everything to me - I even have them forever tatted on me! My current English bulldog, Stella, is half-blind and all crazy. She is a protector and lover of my two girls, who have known and grown up with animals their whole lives. While a sweetheart, she remains separate from my boarded friends. I have experience caring for senior animals, shy and timid babies with, and large breed guardian dogs. I also enjoy volunteering at two of our local animal shelters and am raising a future veterinarian. I believe animals are the purest form of love and require nothing less in return. Whether my own or yours, you can trust that I'll care for them all the same ♥️ I'm available most days of the week and weekends. Pet care and motherhood are my full-time roles, and my daughter may often accompany me on my walks. My home has large yard and a separate family area where my boarded friends can have their own quiet, private space to hang out with me: hang on the couch, watch TV, or play outside. I have a large crate if needed and plenty of space.

Brittany watched our dog, Luna, for a full week while we were away. Luna can be insecure and protective and doesn’t always warm up easily to new people, but Brittany went above and beyond to make sure she felt comfortable. She came over several times before the booking to get to know Luna, which made a huge difference. While we were away, Brittany sent plenty of photos, bonded beautifully with Luna, and even brought in our mail and packages. She is a wonderful find for anyone who wants peace of mind knowing their pet is truly well cared for.

I was lucky to find Brant last minute before our NY eve holiday trip, literally 2 days before my travel. He took great care of our 10 year old wired foxterrier Funny He is reliable, caring and simply wonderful dogsitter. Funny is a cute and people-friendly dog, but she has her issues - dealing with other dogs, being fearful of going out in the dark etc. Brant followed all my instructions and made me and my pup happy for being there for her all the time. He sent daily updates with pics and follow ups. Beyond taking great care of Funny, he also left our home spotlessly clean. I’m grateful for his service and can not recommend him enough and hope we’ll get a chance to hire him again and meet him in person. Thanks so much, Brant! Please say hi if you see me and Funny around ;)

About: I have been taking care of pets since I was a child! My love for animals has motivated me to enroll in vet tech school, starting this fall. I specialize in small mammals, such as rabbits and hamsters, and have owned my own. I have also cared for guinea pigs, parakeets, and aquariums. For dogs, I have experience working with both small and large breeds! I regularly look after my neighbor's dog, and love every opportunity I get to spend time with her. For cats, I have primarily done drop in visits, but have experience with administering medicine to shy cats by building trust over time. I currently do not own pets of my own, so I will be able to give your pet my full attention and care! I am currently spending my summer before starting vet tech school working part time, volunteering at local shelters, and shadowing at clinics. I work weekends, but can still do an early morning or evening visit if needed! Your pet's comfort and safety is my number one priority and I will care for them as if they are my own! Communication and trust is important to me, so I will update you regularly on their happiness and health.

About: I’ve had 6 dogs in my lifetime and of all shapes, sizes and personalities. I have never met a dog that I haven’t gotten along with and have been caring for mine and my friends dogs and cats when needed since I was 10. I trained each one of my dogs and take great care to respect them as the magnificent boys and girls they are. I really love animals of all kinds and meeting new ones is always the highlight of my day, and I look forward to meeting more! I’m currently applying to graduate school and studying for standardized testing, so my schedule can be as flexible as needed to accommodate for yours or your pets needs. I’m quite active with my dogs so I’m more than happy to deal with any energy levels in animals. That being said my care revolves around keeping your pets as happy as possible, and if you are ok with it I have a fully fenced in garden and three lovely dogs to keep them company!

About: Although new to Rover, I have been taking care of dogs for my entire life and have years of experience in professional pet care! As a college athlete I live an active lifestyle and understand the importance of a schedule. That being said I am a great match for high-energy pups who need a lot of playtime and long walks. I also aim to maintain the routine you find best for your pup to provide the least amount of changes to your dogs schedule, and therefore the least amount of stress for them in your absence. I also pride myself in my attentiveness, understanding, and tendency to go above and beyond. You can expect updates with pictures, flexibility with schedule changes or last minute bookings, and patience with your dog in my care. With a high-energy Pitbull and a couch-potato senior dog, I can readily adapt to the needs of your pup! I unfortunately cannot board your furry friends in my home at this time for the safety of my own dogs and the respect of my family! Regarding house sitting services, I am happy to provide overnight care in your home and maintain your pets normal routine as well as any basic house upkeep upon request (mail, trash, etc). I may leave throughout the day to maintain my personal schedule for work, school, or prior plans, however I treat your pet like my own and ensure they are receiving all the attention, potty breaks, playtime, and meals as they would in your care. I would love to take your pup on trails or to my personal fenced backyard for some exercise and to make them more comfortable! Regarding drop-ins and dog walking, I am extremely flexible and can often accept last minute bookings. I am working full time over the summer and will accommodate as best I can to your desired schedule. Early mornings and evenings are available for me on weekdays, weekends can vary but are usually free! My Pitbull loves to play outside and go on long walks. We are lucky to have a large, fenced backyard to enjoy on a daily basis. My senior dog loves slow walks and snuggles, which I ensure he gets plenty of.

Collin and Hayden were great! They met us a few days before and our dog Leti loved them. I showed them around the home and our usual dog walk route, and they arrived promptly at the appointed time. I received photos of Leti being all happy throughout the day, and when I came home Leti loved them so much, she jumped up to give them full face licks of joy! I would happily book them again and recommend them to anyone else. As the parents of two dogs themselves they really know how to take care of dogs and make them feel all the love.

About: Just rejoined Rover after a 7 year hiatus and excited to help care for some new dogs again. I grew up in Connecticut, where my mom taught me a home is not a home without a dog. Took care of 4 family dogs throughout my childhood and into adult life; my parents still have our yellow lab mix Micki at home who I dog sit. I am working remote and in between Westchester and Dutchess County, where I co own a rescue dog with my GF. Looking to meet some new dogs and help in any way possible; dog walking, overnights, playing, feeding and anything else needed. My schedule is extremely flexible right now so let me know how I can help you with your pet. I am currently working remote with a very flexible schedule and am active from New York City to Westchester to Dutchess County and everywhere in between. I am extremely responsible, understanding and experienced with dog sitting, boarding, walking, playing and taking care of any dog while respecting every owner’s home.

Brant is incredible! From the first meeting, he clearly took the care of our pets seriously. He took time to ask many questions about what would make Mabel comfortable and how he could best care for her. This was our first time hiring a pet sitter through an app, and we chose Brant based on his reviews. And we are SO glad we did! We will be hiring Brant again for our menagerie (1 dog and many cats). His kindness, attention to every need of the pets, and level of both care and communication have been amazing. We now know we can travel with peace of mind. Highly highly recommended!

"We loved Marissa!!" said our cat and dog in unison when we walked in the door. I was taking care of my brother's cat, Truman, while he was in the hospital, and Maggie, our dog, usually goes to Michael's house whenever we go away. So it was a real panic to find someone when my brother was unable to, and we had plane tickets to my best friend's wedding in NC. I spoke with a lot of people and landed on Marissa. She was wonderful! Sent pix to us and kept us in the loop. Marissa spent 3 nights at our place and left not a crumb. I loved that she was so responsible and can't recommend her enough. Five star ***** rating!

Naomi was both a lifesaver and a wonderful sitter! She came to sit for our dog Bert last minute when our sitter cancelled! The minute she walked through the door her warmth and clear love for dogs shone through! Then we had to ask if she could stay a bit later because we were stuck at a concert, and she was so accommodating. I HIGHLY recommend Naomi as she was professional, excited about dog sitting and sent lots of pictures to this anxious mama! Thank you naomi!

FAQs for House Sitting - Verplanck

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Verplanck on Rover is $88.8 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 16,202 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Verplanck. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Verplanck walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Verplanck maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Verplanck choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Verplanck. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
