About: Cats have always had a very special place in my heart. I had my own beautiful black kitty until he passed in 2018, and while I haven’t adopted another of my own, I’ve continued caring for other people’s cats ever since. For the past six years, I’ve regularly cared for my best friend’s cat whenever he travels, including extended trips of more than 30 days, as well as frequent weeks when he is out of state. I also regularly care for my neighbor’s cat when they are away. Being trusted with their babies again and again is something I take very seriously. I absolutely love cats because they have SO much personality! I understand that they also have very different ways of communicating and showing affection. Some want to be your shadow, some want endless playtime, some want cuddles on their terms, and others just want you to respect their space while quietly keeping them company. I’m patient about earning their trust and attentive to their normal routines, feeding, fresh water, medication, litter care, playtime, affection, and overall behavior. I also know how important it is to notice when something seems a little “off,” especially when their person is away for an extended period. I'm retired now and travel extensively for part of the year, so I'm unable to have pets of my own and thought this would be a great way to keep busy while I am in town. I have a doggy door and a large, gated backyard for games of fetch or hide and seek. I will provide a safe, loving home while you are away or drop-in if you so choose. When I'm in NOLA, I often work part-time from home. I'm retired so you could call me a homebody, and I'm often found working in my garden. In the fourth quarter of the year, I do travel until thanksgiving but will keep my calendar here updated. I am relatively flexible with scheduling. My son recently moved and took his Boston Terrier with him, so there are no longer any pets in my home. I have a large, fenced yard perfect for games of hide-and-seek or fetch, and I'm often in the back as well working on my garden. I do not have any plants that would present a danger.
