Phenomenal work from this amazing woman! Our pets had a great time for the week we were gone and my cat even welcomed her immediately upon meeting when normally he would avoid new people. Definitely an animal whisperer and most importantly an animal lover! Thank you so much for giving our 4 pets such quality care and treating them so well we are so grateful for your service and kindness to our fur babies 🫶🏼

They are absolutely phenomenal! Very responsive to messages and coordination of the meet and greet to start. Wonderful in the meet and greet with the dogs(3). We knew leaving them for the weekend would be just fine. We received so many photos of them playing and enjoying the dog vacation. Arriving back to our house it was clean and tidy. The same way we had left it. I’d recommend Rey and Jonathan to everyone.

About: 🩷 AVAILABLE FULL TIME 🩷 meet & greets with all new clients 🩷detailed photos and updates 🩷 extra cuddles, kisses, & treats !! Hi, my name is Sydney, your pet’s new bestie! I’m a huge huge animal lover with over five years of experience caring and connecting with animals of all types. I prioritize just that- connecting with your fur babies! All animals have their own distinct, unique personality. I take the time to learn and understand your pet(s) so that they still feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you are away! I currently have two lovely cats of my own (Rocky and Mocha). I also have two dogs (Lucy and Mufasa) and dozens of chickens! I am extremely passionate and dedicated to giving quality care to my favorite fur babies! I have been regularly volunteering at a local cat rescue and doggy daycare since I was 14 years old. I am comfortable administering oral medication. I know how stressful it can be to leave your furry loved with someone you hardly know- I try my best to make this experience as easy and smooth as possible for everyone! We’ll schedule a meeting (unless it’s a last minute booking!) and discuss routines, medication, diet specifications, and anything else we may need to go over! I will keep your pet’s everyday routines in place to the best of my ability. I take lots of pictures and give frequent, detailed updates throughout the day. Your fur babies are in very good hands!! I can’t wait to meet you and your furry fam! 🐾 I am a substitute teacher and currently enrolled in college, so I’m in a period of down time (June-Aug)!! I am available anytime, any day needed! Requested pet info : 🐾 your pet’s everyday routine 🐾 any food specifications / schedule 🐾 any medications/medical info 🐾 their favorite things to do! I want to make sure your pet has a great time with me! I ask for these things to keep their daily routine in place and to make sure they are safe and having fun! We can talk about these things and more at a scheduled meet n’ greet! Thank you so much 😽🐶🩷 I’m a substitute teacher and college student, so I currently have a lot of down time! I’m available anytime you need, don’t hesitate to contact! I will keep up the regular routines that you have in place for your fur babies to the best of my ability! I want to ensure that they feel safe and comfortable around me. For cats, I will clean out the litter box(es) at least once daily. For dogs, I will make sure to let them out every 2-3 hours or more frequently if requested/noted!

About: Hi, all! Years of living with and caring for pets and working as a veterinary assistant has led me to be attentive, knowledgeable, and most importantly, so loving to any and all animals. I currently care for a pup, cat and ducks in my life. I intend to care for your pet as if it were my own! I am easy-going, flexible and willing to abide by any reasonable requests in care-taking. This won’t be considered “work” for me. It’s a bonus for the joy of spending time with and caring for animals and helping out pet parents as well :) I hope to meet you and your pet soon! Krista E. As far as my schedule, I am completely open during the daytime. I work evening shifts five days a week, but my schedule changes weekly. For walking: 1-2 walks a day from the hours of 8-3. I can also do night walks on days that I work, outside of the hours of 3-10ish, depending on the day. If I am off, I can walk at any time in the day or evening. I am willing to make multiple visits in a day. For House Drop-Ins: Similar to above, the evening times may vary. For House Sitting: I receive my schedule weekly, so I am available for overnight at least twice a week. However, if consecutive days are needed, I will be available for morning and afternoon care, but will have to leave for work and return afterward at night. Again, this time varies, so it will be either 3-8:30/9ish that I am gone, or 4-10/11ish. I can understand if this is an issue, but am willing to walk during the day, feed, and let out for a potty break as soon as I am able. I do not accept pets in my home because of the other animals already here, but as far as in yours, I am clean, courteous, quiet, respectful, and most importantly, there to keep your pet well-cared for, entertained, and at ease.

About: I am a young adult with lots of experience with taking care of cats and dogs. I have grown up around them and I love to take care of them. My daily routine includes emptying litter boxes and sweeping litter off floors. I often accompany my dogs outside to make sure they did their business. I also feed each of my pets daily. While I do not have much experience outside my own home taking care of my pets, I know how to do so while making sure my clients and their pets are happy.

About: Dogs and cats have always been a part of my life. I have experience with washing, walking, feeding, potty breaks and overnight stays. Currently, my occupation is a dog groomer. Before this job I was a vet assistant at an Animal Hospital. I work part-time right now so I have plenty of time to watch after your pets. I’m available everyday including weekends. About: As a proud four-legged mom, I take pet care very seriously and treat every dog like my own. I’m available every day as a stay-at-home mom, which gives me plenty of time to dedicate to your pets. I have two sweet, well-trained dogs of my own, Jadore and Jiovanni, who are the friendliest pups you’ll ever meet. I even have special days where I cook dog-friendly meals—because making pets feel loved and cared for is so important to me. When I look after your pets, they’ll be treated like family with lots of love, attention, and care. Pet care fits into my daily routine very naturally because it’s something I’m already doing every single day. As a stay-at-home mom and dog mom, I structure my day around making sure my two dogs, Jadore and Jiovanni, are happy, healthy, and cared for. That includes feeding, walks, playtime, training, and lots of love and attention. Because I’m home full-time, I have the flexibility to schedule drop-in visits and walks throughout the day without it ever feeling rushed. Caring for pets is more than just a task for me—it’s a part of my lifestyle. I truly enjoy spending time with animals, whether that means going on walks to get their energy out, making sure they’re fed on time, or just sitting with them for comfort and companionship. Every pet I look after gets the same care and attention I give my own, so it fits seamlessly into my weekly routine. To me, it’s not an “extra” responsibility—it’s something I love to do and look forward to. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I always try to keep things as close to their normal routine as possible. I know how important consistency is, so I make sure they’re fed at their usual times, get fresh water, and have plenty of time for play, walks, and bathroom breaks. I love giving them attention, whether that’s cuddle time, playing with toys, or just sitting nearby so they feel comfortable and not alone. I also take care to follow any special instructions you provide—whether it’s medications, feeding preferences, or certain routines that make your pet feel more secure. I pay attention to their behavior and body language to make sure they’re happy and stress-free while you’re away. For me, caring for pets isn’t just about the basics—it’s about making sure they feel loved and safe until you’re back home.

FAQs for House Sitting - Tar Heel

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of September 2026, there are 290 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Tar Heel. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Tar Heel walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Tar Heel maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Tar Heel choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Tar Heel. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 95% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
