“Mikayla, as always, was amazing. Our doggo’s love her and so do we. She always goes above and beyond. Had some things going on with our house while we were away and she went out of her way to help us with it. Can’t recommend her enough, she’s always our first choice.”

“Zia was the perfect sitter for my pup! I will be using her on a regular basis as I work out of town a lot. She left my home cleaner than when I left, she gave me regular updates and pictures and my pup absolutely adored her! 5+ stars!”

“Bella is absolutely wonderful! My dog and I are so very grateful for her! She always makes sure that King has his daily dose of snuggles and feels loved while I’m gone. She’s always communicative, reliable, and responsible. It’s such a relief to have someone that I can trust to stay in my home with King while I’m away and know that he’s happy and well cared for.”

“Francois did so great with our dogs! My older dog Koda is very hesitant with new people when we leave. He was very happy with François which was A huge relief to us while we were on our trip. He made sure our other dogs got lots of attention and outside exercise time. And he left the house spotless, dishes done, watered my plants, and laundry in the washer. Will definitely be using him again!”

“Frances was Wonderful taking care of my babies while I was on vacation. I was gone for 5 days, and have two dogs….a German Shepherd and a Boxer, and they were well taken care of. I would highly recommend Frances for any of your dog sitting needs and will definitely use her again!”

“Carlee was amazing! I hope to hire her again in the future. Our pups LOVED her and she did such a great job updating us about them, how they were doing, and sending pictures. It gave us such peace of mind to have someone watching them where they were comfortable.”

“Grace is amazing with my 20mo Cane Corso. She has walked him numerous time, stayed at my house with him for a week and I have already booked her for another week that I need to be away. I highly recommend Grace for any of your fur baby needs.”

“We needed someone to house/dog sit while we were out of town for a week. Jonathan was great! We could tell the dogs got lots of long walks and plenty of attention. We would definitely rebook him!”

“Alex is amazing with animals and was great with my dog daisy. I have a 2-year old mountain feist that still has a lot of energy and Alex was able to give her the exercise and attention that she needed while I was away.”

About: I really enjoy animals so much. I just do not meet a stranger when it comes to dogs and cats. Your home would be my home away from home. Im 49 years old with a 5 year old son. I enjoy teaching him about how wonderful each animal can be. I personally believe if you teach a child to love animals they will grow up to be wonderful people. I do not have a big home but it is ful of love. We treat all animals like they are part of our family. I can not wait to meet you and your family (pets).. This job is a test to see if i can make an income big enough to stay home with my son. . God Bless each and everyone of you.
About: Hello my name is Hannah ! I have always had pets growing up as a child and my love for them has grown into my adulthood even more . My experience in pet care is from having my own animals and caring for family and friends . My boyfriend and I only have one dog ; she is a Basset Hound her name is Dolly . I will always make sure to treat your furry friends with nothing but love and attention when in my care. I work full time 9/5 but am available in the morning and after work and of course on the weekends. If needed and close enough I can check in on my lunch . I aim to keep your dog on their normal routine—feeding, walks, playtime, and lots of love—while also keeping your home tidy and secure why you are away.
“Everything seemed to go great. Very quick responses. House was even cleaner than we left it. My dogs seemed to really like her, and they seemed completely happy and stress free when we arrived home.”

“Ted and Sara did an excellent fun/job with The Duke. The Duke has extreme anxiety in a vehicle, so we reached out to Rover and thankfully we found Ted and Ted got The Duke to like him and Ted got to see The Duke’s sweet personality. Ted sent multiple pics and descriptions of the day with The Duke and Ted even mopped our kitchen floor, St Bernards can be very messy. Ted even left us framed pictures of The Duke, so sweet and thoughtful. If we travel again Ted is the one I’ll call and if you need someone who is competent and very good at his job, get Ted”

About: I’ve spent years caring for pets for friends and family, including walking, drop-in visits, and overnight pet sitting. I’m comfortable with animals of all sizes and energy levels, from playful puppies to relaxed seniors. I currently live with and help care for three dogs (ages 1, 3, and 12), so I’m very familiar with managing different needs! I work part-time hours, so my time is pretty open overall. My schedule is set for each week, so my availability will be posted well in advance. I make sure to keep a consistent eye on animals even if they seem to be low maintenance. That includes indoor/outdoor time and during walks. If you have any safety concerns regarding your pet, just reach out.
“Irma was great with our kitties. We needed someone last minute, and our little boy Dexter was having some health issues so we were very nervous. Irma took very good care of them while we were gone and was ready to take Dexter to the vet if he needed to be taken. She was very good about giving him his medicine and tracking his food intake and everything. Highly recommend!!!”

About: I’ve cared for dogs for most of my life and have had my own dog since I was seven years old. At fourteen, I independently raised and trained a puppy, taking full responsibility for daily walks, feeding, bathroom schedules, basic training, playtime, and overall care. Through that experience, I learned patience, consistency, and how to understand different dog personalities and needs. I’m comfortable with energetic dogs, maintaining routines, and making sure pets feel safe, exercised, and cared for while their owners are away. My schedule is very flexible, and I’m available most days and times throughout the week. I can accommodate morning, afternoon, and evening walks or check-ins depending on your pet’s needs. I’m reliable, responsive, and happy to work with different routines and energy levels to make sure your dog feels comfortable and cared for. I make sure every pet feels safe, comfortable, and cared for by keeping their routine as consistent as possible. In a client’s home, I follow feeding schedules, provide fresh water, take dogs on walks or potty breaks, give them attention and playtime, and make sure the home stays clean and secure while the owner is away. I also pay close attention to each dog’s behavior and energy levels so I can adjust care to their needs, whether they’re very active, anxious, or more relaxed. Because I’ve raised and trained a puppy myself, I understand the importance of patience, consistency, and positive interaction. I’m comfortable with walks, basic reinforcement training, crate routines, cleaning up accidents if needed, and making sure pets get both exercise and affection throughout the day.
About: I have had dogs all of my life since I was 4 years old. I didnt start to take up the responsibility to take care of them until I was about 7 or 8 years old. I have had a range of dog breeds and sizes in my care from a golden retriever to a toy Aussie. I love take care, play and just hang out with animals. I currently work as a middle school teacher so my summers are pretty free! Whether it’s a one day check in or a vacation, I will happily spend my summer with your pups! During the school year, I am limited to weekends only but would still love to spend my weekends with your pets! I will follow whatever needs you have for your dog(s) whether I have to house sit, walk, or just hang out with your animal for the day. I want to make sure you are comfortable with the care I give them.

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Southern Shops
Danielle was amazing. She took great care of our dogs and cats while we were away for a week. This was my first time booking through Rover and she made the whole process easy. I especially appreciated her efforts to make sure everything was covered during our trip. I’m so grateful for her help, and I will definitely try to book her again for our future trips.

Sarah was great!!! She showed up exactly when planned, and she left exactly when she stated she would. She gave the dogs lots of attention and love and kept them safe and happy overnight for us. We will use her again for sure!!! It’s always nice to find someone that you feel you can trust in your home while you’re away!!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Southern Shops walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Southern Shops maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Southern Shops choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Southern Shops. On Rover:
- 95% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 95% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
