I currently have a pit/australia shepherd mix and a bully xL puppy. She is the most sweetest, goofy and sassy puppy. I'm surrounded by dogs all day. I use whatever the owners use weather its a crate, having inside, or having them outside. I do whatever the owners does. But I would prefer the dog to have a crate for safety reasons.
