“Veronica was wonderful and fantastic with our dog and two cats! By the end of the stay she was practically family. Very communicative and responsive. And very helpful when we were delayed getting back. We will definitely book with her again!”

“Lee was absolutely fantastic, and took great care of our lil girl. He was highly responsive, provided great detailed updates throughout the week, and during the meet-and-greet asked great questions to make sure he knew everything that he needed to know ahead of time. We'll definitely be booking with Lee for our future trips and highly recommend him to others as well.”

“Mikella was great with my pup. He was really apprehensive about a new sitter in the beginning but within a short time she had him comfortable and snoozing in her lap. She sent multiple pics throughout her short stay with Potato, made me feel like he was well taken care of. Definitely would book with her again!”

“Carolyn was wonderful. She took good care of Charlie and was careful to follow instructions including administering medicine and following physical therapy instructions. She left the house very clean and orderly. We would love to use her again.”

About: My experience in pet care is from having three family cats (Spanky, Sweetheart, and Suki) and a dog (Buddy) and pet sitting for some family members. I've had cats and dogs my whole life and personally have trained them. Spending time with animals always makes my day and I love leaving animals in their trusted homes happy and relaxed. I just recently graduated from Virginia Tech and will be taking a gap year before heading to medical school. Because of this, my schedule is incredible flexible, and I have plenty of time to dedicate to taking care of your beloved animals while I am in town. I always respect your home and your pet's personal boundaries. I make sure that before I leave, your furry family member has had a fun, enriching visit and is left happy, healthy, and safe.
“We owe so much to Chantal! She took great care of our home and our senior dog. Communication was fantastic the entire time and we appreciated all the pictures and updates! Highly recommend her to anyone!”

“We are so happy (and relieved) to have found Tori! We typically board our dogs during vacation but our elderly GSD was recently diagnosed with cancer and we wanted to keep the dogs more comfortable, in our home. Tori took care of our home and our two dogs while we were away. She stayed in our home and we found her to be very responsive, responsible and just awesome! She is a great person all-around and I’m so happy to have her in our lives now. It’s such a relief to find someone to trust with your babies and we have certainly found that in Tori. I’d highly recommend her for any of your house or pet sitting needs.”

“Makenzie was wonderful! She is so sweet and took the best care of our cat and dog. She was super responsive and also took great care of our home. I definitely recommend her for excellent care of your fur babies!”

“Becky was super thorough in sending me photos, videos, and updates of my pups. She clearly loved on them like I would have, and I was so thankful to have someone care for them so deeply while I was gone. Absolutely would recommend her services, and I plan to use her again and again! 🙏🏼❤️”

About: I’ve cared for my two cats for the past 6 years and have always loved animals of all kinds! Whether its feeding, cleaning, playtime, or giving extra cuddles, I treat every pet as if they were my own! I work from home in the Henrico/West End area, so I’m very flexible schedule wise to check in on your pet. Feel reach out with your specific needs. I have 2 cats myself for 6 years. I can provide services to feed, walk, give water, clean and just provide company to your pet!
“Emily did a fantastic job with my nervous, old pup. He can be finicky but he warmed up to her quickly! She took wonderful care of our house as well and left it in great shape. Highly recommend Emily and we will definitely book with her again!”

“Mark did a fantastic job with our pup, Winky, who requires shots twice daily. He handled his care beautifully, communicated frequently, and left the house sparkling! We’re having come back very soon!”

“Helena was everything we hoped for in a dog and house sitter. I appreciate so much all of the photos, the detailed updates on their time together, and how proactive Helena was with communicating. We cannot wait to be her repeat clients. If you want someone that you can trust that your dog will quickly be obsessed with, look no further. Seriously, thank you so much, Helena!”

“Awesome job! Our puppies were very happy with her. She did an excellent job making sure that they were taken care of and loved. Heather kept in constant communication and sent us many pics so we knew that we didn’t need to worry about them.”

“Kaylan was awesome. Responsive to texts, and the animals immediately liked her. She picked us up on a last minute request on a busy weekend and we could not be more thankful. Our pets were well cared for and we certainly recommend her for others!”

“Nan spent an entire week wrangling our cat & dog and took excellent care of them in our home. She was very communicative and gave frequent updates and was sure not to leave our dog alone too long. We had some bad weather and she made sure our dog was in his thundershirt to help with his anxiety and was also super patient with his mischievous tendencies. She left our home in impeccable condition too! I’d definitely book her again to take care of our pets. Thanks Nan :)”

“McKenzie is a pro - very responsive, excellent communication and a great caregiver to our Stella - she goes the extra mile to ensure comfort for your pet and takes great care of your home when sitting. Could not recommend her more.”

This is our 2nd time using Rebecca. I must say we feel very secure knowing that she is taking good care of our house and pets. She gives us tons of communication with photos and videos. It really comes through how much she loves animals and spends so much of her time with them. Happy to give a super satisfied review and strongly recommend her to anyone looking on Rover.

Vanessa was wonderful! She took great care of our cats (and hummingbirds) and our house. She was in constant contact letting us know how our girls were doing and sent plenty of pictures which we loved. We will definitely reach out to her again when we need her services

Madelyn is phenomenal! She took amazing care of our kitties and stubborn pup. Our home was well cared for too. Very responsible, responsive and sent lots of pics and videos of our pets consistently. Very apparent how happy and comfortable they all were in her care, even our shy, skittish kitty. She followed our very detailed instructions to the letter! Thank you!!

Farnaz EXCEEDED our expectations and went above and beyond for our dogs it was truly remarkable. It put our minds at ease; she updated us frequently on the dogs in detail about their health and many pictures. We were thoroughly impressed if you can’t tell by reading this and would trust her with our dogs anytime/anyday in the future and truly no one else! THANK YOU!

We had a great first experience with Anna. She was friendly, easy to communicate with, and kept us updated throughout our trip with regular messages and photos, which gave us peace of mind. Our dogs can be a handful and she had a good calm demeanor with them. She was also very respectful of our home while she stayed there. We appreciated her thoughtfulness and would happily book with her again.

10/10 would recommend Jackie for anyone looking for an amazing dog sitter! She took my dogs on several walks and played with them in the dog park. Highly communicative with photos and updates. My dogs were constantly loved on by Jackie and I couldn’t be happier with the good job she did. Highly recommend her!!

Odie and I could not have been luckier to find a dog and house sitter as awesome as Mandy. She was professional and kind and I felt confident that she would take great care of my senior dog and home. She administered several medications to Odie. She kept me updated daily with pics, and she left the house as I left it before my trip. Odie was a happy boy when I came home, I would highly recommend her.

Alethea was so easy to work with and went above and beyond our expectations. Her daily photos and updates made us feel confident that our pups were in good hands and getting all of the love and attention they need. I would highly recommend her! We have already booked her for future house and pets-sitting needs.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Short Pump on Rover is $46.62 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Short Pump walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Short Pump maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Short Pump choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
