“It was so nice to go on a trip and know that our cats would be well taken care of while we were gone! Gwen took great care of them and gave them the attention they needed (or would accept).”

“Kendall is incredibly kind, patient, and reliable. She took wonderful care of our 10-year-old cat while we were out of town, and we came home knowing our cat had been well looked after. We really appreciated her care and attention, and I would absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy pet sitter!”

“Elizabeth was great with our new puppy! She had a super flexible schedule and was able to come check on her three times a day, which was a lifesaver. We would definitely recommend booking with her! ☺️”

“Ann Marie has been a life-saver! She has been checking in on my dog Ruby for weeks now and has always been so flexible and communicative with me! Definitely recommend! 🙂”

“Maria did an amazing job caring for my cat while away! Very responsive and give daily photos and updates. Would definitely have her watch my cat again next time I go out of town.”

“Brelynn is amazing! She was so kind and gentle with my senior dog, who needs medicine hidden in wet food and also needs assistance getting up and down the stairs to my deck. Even in frigid January temperatures, Brelynn gave my dog the outdoor time she needed and then cuddled with her indoors for the rest of the visit. She gave my dog more time and attention than I can provide over a rushed lunch hour, and I’m so grateful for the loving care she gave my doggy!”

“Savannah was absolutely excellent! So communicative and so attentive to our pups while we were away! She took great care of our dogs and sent lots of photo updates! 100% recommend her!!”

“Sam was so fabulous with our shy girl! Sam was patient and our Mabel really seemed to warm up to her. Sam was detailed and we loved getting photos and videos. Highly recommend!”

About: I have ample experience watching my friend's energetic dog. At first he was shy around me, but I was able to gain his trust and now we're buddies! :) I am doing only gig work at the moment while I am learning languages and upskilling. My schedule is very flexible and that allows me to adapt to your pet's specific needs. I pay close attention to promptings from the pet of needing additional attention and care. I also pay attention for feedback on the pet's feelings about their food.
About: I currently work at a veterinarian clinic and deal with all types or breeds and temperaments. I have worked at a dog daycare and boarding facility. I would help with playgroups, walks, medication administration, and bathing. I have helped with potty and crate training, including my own dogs. I have a crate and rotate situation in my own home, so I understand that not all dogs can be around others. I would help on my days off at the vet clinic. I am always off on Sundays and major holidays. I would also try to fit any pet care on my days I work as well. I have a crate and rotate situation in my home. I know to take extra care to make sure my non dog friendly dog is up prior to letting any others out. I double check to make sure the crate doors are latched. I also make sure my own gate is closed because I would hate for one of my dogs to get out.
“My cat, Raven, is a senior girl who is slowing down. Wendy took great care of her which gave me peace of mind while I was out of town. Raven greeted me with a purr when I got home. Thanks for taking such good care of Raven! 😻”

“We are so pleased to add Karissa to our dog sitting team! She truly loves dogs and was wonderful with our shy/reactive dog. She sent photos and notes that helped give us peace of mind while gone. Karissa is dependable and does a great job!”

About: Ever since I was a little girl I’ve always prefer preferred animals over humans! I’ve had cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters, and I’ve never met a species of pet I don’t like! I’ve cleaned litterboxes, taken care of sick cats and dogs, walked and bathed dogs, and am constantly doing research to know more about our four legged family members! I currently work for myself and make my own hours, so I’m very flexible during the week! I have four cats of my own and one beloved nephew-puppy I often help care for. I’ve taken care of pets my whole life! I can provide a clean and safe environment for animals such as puppy proofing, litterbox cleaning, dish cleaning, and accident clean ups while also providing other services to keep your four legged friends happy and healthy such as walks, play time, and whatever you feel your pet may need.
“Beth has helped us out twice with our cats and dog. She is very professional, always keeps us updated, and send us lots of pictures. We appreciate her and have felt at ease while we are away.”

“Kasey has become a God send for our family! We have a full schedule that keeps us away for longer than we want our German Shepard to be home alone. Kasey has been able to help us with daily drop in visits that are always on time and complete with pictures and a legit 30 minutes of time outside for our dog. I would absolutely recommend anyone to trust her with your furry baby and we will continue using her as often as possible.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 1,213 sitters on Rover offering Cat Sitting across Shepherd. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.
House sitting can be ideal for cats who need socialization or care that lasts longer than a few hours. Your cat stays in their own home, on their own schedule, with care based on what you and your sitter agree on together.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Shepherd. On Rover:
- 93% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
