“Scott and Amanda are fantastic with Lily. I always feel comfortable entrusting them with my girl. She plays super hard so she sleeps for a day when she gets home. Happy girl = happy Mom. Thanks for taking care of my baby.”

“Erin and the family were great. I needed a sitter for Lyla on short notice and fortunately they were available. The day I picked Lyla up, she slept most of the rest of the day. I took that as a sign that she had a fun time. I would book them again if I have another occasion.”

“We were extremely pleased with Lyra & Scott! They took great care of our dog Bella. She is an older dog and I was hesitant leaving her, but they made Bella feel very comfortable. They sent me photos of Bella and she had a great stay with them. I will definitely use them again when we visit Williamsburg!”

“Crystal was very patient and caring with Justice. She provided consistent updates throughout his stay and went out of her way to make sure he was comfortable boarding with her.”

“Tara and her family were amazing with my dog. As a rescue, my dog is nervous in new situations. I appreciate all the great care that she provided. My dog had a great time and she cared for her with the same level of care that I would.”

“Omaira and Isaac took very good care of Bentley, providing me regular updates. They were very flexible with my booking and worked with my changes. I would definitely use them again”

“Absolutely recommend! My senior girl can get really anxious when I leave, especially with someone new, and she settled in with George and his family right away. She stayed almost a week for her first stay and it went amazing. Tons of walks, pets, treats, and cuddles, plus George kept me updated the whole time with plenty of pictures. I was able to actually relax and enjoy my trip, and I'll definitely be booking them again!”

“Bryan and his family took great care of our chihuahua when we where away for a month. He did amazing at keeping us updated on how she was doing and gave us peace of mind during our vacation. This is the second time we leave our dog with this family. I completely recommend them! They are an animal loving family and truly care for pets.”

“We used Allison for the first time for a in-home boarding stay. Our dog was safe, well cared for, and we appreciated knowing she was in a home environment rather than a traditional kennel.”

“I knew Cojo was in the best hands from the start! Lynn went above and beyond what I expected and I never was worried once. I was sent updates daily + knew my boy was being spoiled with great care and attention. Thank you for all that you did, we appreciate you so much! ❤️”

“We are so thankful that they were able to accommodate Gary on such short notice. They provided frequent updates throughout his stay, which gave us great peace of mind while we were away. It was clear that Gary was well cared for and treated like one of their own pets. We truly appreciate their flexibility, communication, and care. We would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a loving and reliable sitter!”

“Best part about my pup's stay with Suzanne: She let Jackson be Jackson. He was able to just lounge around her house or wander around her yard as he pleased. And he got lots of snuggles. :-)”
“Lana was incredibly accommodating. I had a last minute trip out of town and Lana was able to look after my dog on one day’s notice. Pics & videos began flowing within an hour of dropping Penny off. I would recommend Lana to anyone looking for a wonderful family to take care of their pup and I would definitely leave Penny with her again. 5-star service all the way around.”

About: My experience working in animal welfare taught me the importance of patience, compassion, and understanding each animal's unique needs. I know that finding someone you trust with your pets isn't easy, so I became a sitter to provide the kind of care and reassurance I would want for my own animals. I regularly care for my children's pets, and they love coming to Grandma's house! Whether it's walks, playtime, cuddles, or sticking to familiar routines, I believe every pet deserves to feel safe, loved, and at home while their family is away. ❤️ I work from home two days each week to provide attention, companionship, and care. I'm also home most weekends, which allows me to maintain your pet's routine and make sure they receive plenty of love, playtime, and supervision while you're away. This flexible schedule helps us provide consistent care and ensures your pets won't be left alone for long periods. 🐾💙 Our dogs are an important part of the family, and they're treated that way every day. They enjoy daily walks, either on the trail that winds through our 5-acre property or around our quiet neighborhood. We also have a fenced acre where dogs can safely explore, play, and burn off energy. Pets are fed twice daily and receive plenty of love and attention throughout the day. Whether it's snuggling on the couch, playing with toys, or enjoying outdoor time, we make sure every pet feels comfortable and cared for. Of course, good behavior is rewarded with treats! Two of our dogs especially love a good game of fetch, so you'll often find us outside throwing a ball and enjoying some extra playtime. My goal is to make every pet feel safe, happy, loved, and right at home while you're away. 🐾❤️
“Shelley was amazing!!!! I was updated on a regular with what my dog was doing and how he was acting. She's extremely kind and gentle and we will be using her and her services again and again!!!!”
“Teela was fabulous. This was the first time we boarded our very anxious pup. Teela was gentle and soothing. She was great about keeping me updated and sending pics throughout our time away. Our dog did very well and came home happy. Thank you Teela & Daisy!”

“Laurie was a fantastic sitter for Loki. Right away he took to her like (insert favorite positive colloquialism here) and was very happy when we came back for the actual booking. Many pictures during his stay reinforced the knowledge he was having a great time. Definitely worth it and I’ll try to rebook during my next vacation need.”

About: Hello! My name is Ashley. I have had dogs and cats ever since I can remember, small dogs and bigger dogs. I am an animal lover who loves being outdoors, loves being active, and loves the company of pets. I have two cats who love/ are used to being around dogs! If you need a simple dog walk, I am your girl! If your dog like runs or playing fetch, you can count on me to keep them active. Or if your pet just needs some lovin’ while you’re away I can do that too. I couldn’t think of a better side job than to spend that time with animals. I am very responsible, reliable, and trustworthy. I know that pets are a very important part of our lives and will take great care of your fur child.

About: I've taken care of pets for a long time, including my own, but also those of my friends and family. I love hanging out with animals and making sure that they're well-taken care of, and properly loved. I work remotely during the day, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to be available for pet care needs throughout the day. In the evenings, I coach baseball, but I have a consistent routine and am never truly on call, so I can always make time for feeding, walks, playtime, and giving a pet the attention and care they need. I prioritize creating a safe, comfortable, and trusting environment for every pet. In my home or a client’s home, I make sure pets have a clean space, access to food and water, regular exercise, and plenty of attention. I follow each owner’s instructions carefully, maintain their routines, and make sure pets feel comfortable and secure while they are in my care.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Shacklefords Fork home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Shacklefords Fork.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Shacklefords Fork sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
