Amy was the best, we are so lucky to have found her! She took care of our large dog Luna who is very sweet but also doesn't know her own strength sometimes. Amy is great at handling all sizes of dogs. She kept us informed every day and took good care of our house too. We (including Luna) highly recommend!

Madison was great! She stayed with our dogs and cats for a week at our house. Sent pics once a day to reassure us. Dogs and cats were happy and the house was clean. She worked with us on the return time and stayed extra to be sure they were okay! We’d love to have her again!

About: I have experience caring for pets through both professional work and personal ownership. I currently provide dog walking and pet care through Wag!, where I’ve worked with dogs of different ages, sizes, and energy levels, including senior dogs and more active breeds. I’ve also had the opportunity to build trust with repeat clients by providing dependable, compassionate care. As a proud cat mom to two cats, I understand the importance of patience, routine, and recognizing each pet’s unique personality. In addition, I’ve volunteered with a cat rescue, where I cared for cats with a wide range of temperaments, cleaned enclosures, socialized cats, and administered oral and topical medications when needed. I also spent a year working at a family-owned pet store that specialized in dogs, cats, and exotic animals, giving me hands-on experience with daily animal care and pet wellness. My goal is to provide every pet with a safe, loving, and stress-free experience while giving pet parents peace of mind. Pet care fits naturally into my weekly routine because I work remotely, which gives me a flexible schedule and allows me to dedicate quality time to the pets I care for. Since I also drive, I’m able to reliably travel to visits, walks, and drop-ins. I enjoy staying active and spending time with animals, so caring for pets is something I genuinely look forward to each week. Your pet’s safety, comfort, and routine are my top priorities. I believe pets feel happiest in their own home, so I take the time to learn their schedule, feeding routine, exercise needs, and any special instructions before each visit. I always ensure doors, gates, and harnesses are secure, keep a close eye on your pet during walks and playtime, and treat your home with the same care and respect I would my own. I’ll also provide updates and photos so you can have peace of mind knowing your pet is safe, happy, and well cared for while you’re away.

Trevor was wonderful! He was very attentive to all our house sitting and pet sitting needs. Including bringing in our many packages and mail that was delivered while we were gone, managing our pup’s irregular eating habits and navigating a visit from the cleaners. We felt great leaving our Zoey girl in his care and highly recommend his services.

About: I have volunteered at 3 separate animal shelters for 10 years now and have always had pets in the home. I have 2 cats of my own. I work from home so my day consists of being able to take frequent breaks from my desk to play with my own cats and any other animals I may be caring for. About: Hello! My name is Gianna, as a pet owner myself of a reptile, and dog, I am eager to provide the best care possible. In the past, I have volunteered for North Shore Animal League America where I worked with animals from all walks of life. In my time there I had to get down and dirty between cleaning cages, and caring for sick animals. I have experience with all types of smalls animals (reptiles, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc), along with large and small dogs alike. In the past I have provided care for senior animals who require consistent medication, along with lively young dogs who enjoy exercising and lots of play time. While I do work full-time outside of pet-sitting, my job offers extreme flexibility, and I am happy to accommodate your pets needs whether that just be someone to snuggle with for the evening, or an all day companion. I am happy to provide any references upon request My current job is pretty flexible so whether your animal prefers someone home all the time, or is used to being alone for a typical work day, I am happy to accommodate (rates may vary). I like to remain pretty strict to whatever routine the animal may already have set to avoid disrupting their flow. While I do offer in-home boarding, I ask for an in person meet with my dog and cat prior to boarding just to ensure compatibility. I have a dog named Cheese and a cat named LeeLee who are both rather to themselves and pay one another no mind. If providing boarding your animals will be treated like one of my own.

About: I have worked with dogs since I was in middle school. I currently am in the process of getting my dog grooming license and work at an animal shelter at the moment. I have experience with large dogs to small dogs, scared and nervous dogs, Mouthy and jumpy dogs, walking strong pulling dogs, administering medication and Grooming! I am just looking to fill my free time doing something I love and passionate about! I’m currently working part-time at an animal shelter and I just received my dog grooming license. I am flexible with my schedule and only work 3 days a week. I would follow all of the instructions the owner has left. Provide your dog with enrichment, treats and walks. If your puppy is scared or anxious I will sit with them, spending the time trying to gain their trust so it’s a positive experience for both parties involved!

2nd time using Alex for 9 days as an in house sitter. Fantastic job as usual. It's such a relief knowing our boy is being taken care of by someone who cares about him. We were updated several times a day with pictures and we were in constant contact. We will always use Alex when he is available and I would highly recommend his services. He's the best.

Lenora was absolutely amazing. She stayed in our home and took care of our dog, Cloud, for 5 days, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She was attentive, reliable, and clearly gave Cloud so much love and care. We received regular updates after walks along with plenty of adorable photos, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. Our home was well cared for, and Cloud was happy, relaxed, and clearly comfortable with her. Lenora is hands-down the best sitter we’ve found here, and we would 100% book her again in the future. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Plainedge on Rover is $74.93 per night (as of September 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of September 2026, there are 17,876 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Plainedge. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Plainedge walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Plainedge maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Plainedge choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Plainedge. On Rover:

  • 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 92% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
