Madison was wonderful. We had a meet and greet. After meeting her, I knew she was the one for us. She stayed at our house overnight and I received pictures of my cats along with my feral cat that lives here. I had no worries leaving her at our home. Came home and she left it exactly the way it was when we left. She listened to direction for feeding and not only were we happy, our cats were happy. Cannot wait to use Madison again. Thank you for making us feel comfortable with our fur babies. Michele

Amy was the best, we are so lucky to have found her! She took care of our large dog Luna who is very sweet but also doesn't know her own strength sometimes. Amy is great at handling all sizes of dogs. She kept us informed every day and took good care of our house too. We (including Luna) highly recommend!

About: Hi! I’ve been caring for dogs for over 13 years and have done plenty of dog and house sitting for different families. I really enjoy getting to know each pup and making sure they’re happy, comfortable, and well cared for while you’re away. Whether your dog loves to play or prefers to relax, I’m happy to spend time with them and give them the attention they need. I know how important it is to trust someone with your pets, and I treat every dog like they’re my own. I’d love to meet you and your pups! I’m available early mornings, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday afternoons, plus most evenings. I’m also comfortable caring for multiple dogs at once. Happy to figure out the schedule that works best! I care for pets in the comfort of their own home through visits and dog walks. I'm comfortable caring for dogs of all ages, sizes, and energy levels. Whether your pup needs a walk, feeding, potty breaks, playtime, or just some company, I'll make sure they feel safe, happy, and well cared for while you're away.

About: Hi, I’m Mindy — I run MindySits 🐾 I treat every pet like my own, simple as that. I’m patient, reliable, and pay attention to what each dog actually needs. Beyond pet sitting, I’m deeply involved in the rescue community and serve as a Foster Manager with BARRK Rescue, where I help oversee placements, guide fosters, and support dogs coming from difficult or uncertain backgrounds. This experience has given me a strong understanding of behavior, decompression, and how to meet each dog exactly where they are. Whether it’s walks or overnight care, I keep things calm, consistent, and make sure your pet is comfortable and well cared for. I’ll also keep you updated so you’re never wondering how things are going. Dependable care and a happy dog that’s always the goal 💛🐶 Hi! I work a hybrid schedule, home 2 days a week. My husband is home so your pup will rarely be alone. I have always been happiest with a dog close by. I live with my husband, daughter, and our dog Willie 🐾 We’re a calm, dog-loving home and I just really enjoy having animals around. I also help care for a senior dog, so I’m patient, gentle, and pay attention to what each dog needs. I’m easygoing but attentive, and I make sure every dog feels safe and comfortable while they’re with me

About: For two years, I’ve cared for friends’ dogs through walks, drop-ins, and longer stays. I’ll make sure your pup gets the exercise, attention, and care they need while keeping you updated every step of the way. With advance scheduling I can walk dogs at any time and do drop-ins before 7pm! Happy to walk dogs as early as 8am and as late as 6pm. For dogs, I always make sure they are hydrated and fed first (unless there is a specific routine) then we go into a walk and some play if they’re up to it! For the cats, I make sure they’re hydrated and fed usually after a play session so they feel satisfied and can rest easily.

About: *** Will be away July 4th-9th*** Hi there! My name is Kate, I’m 24 years old and I am based in Long Island NY. I’ve been a life long animal lover, I grew up incredibly curious and caring towards animals. I grew up raising pets like fishes, birds, hedgehogs, ferrets, rabbits and my beloved dog who recently passed after being with us for 16 years. It’s been difficult living without her but I still want to keep myself company with other animals. I will care for your pet like as if they were my own. My work schedule is very flexible, I’d mostly be able to take care of your dog as long as there is a few days in advance notice! I have a fenced yard so they will be protected. I also provide a food bowl and water along with treats! I have a leash and collar if needed! Behind my house is an elementary school with a huge field, I would bring them there to walk around and play!

About: I've been caring for animals for years and have hands-on experience with both dogs and cats. I currently care for my own high-energy Shepherd mix, so I'm comfortable handling large, energetic dogs and understand the importance of patience, consistency, and reading body language. I've also cared for multiple cats while their owners were away, making sure they were fed, had fresh water, clean litter boxes, plenty of attention (or space, depending on their personality), and that their owners received regular updates for peace of mind. In addition to everyday pet care, I have experience caring for dogs with medical needs. My current dog is undergoing heartworm treatment, which has taught me how important it is to follow medication schedules, activity restrictions, and provide calm, attentive care. I also helped care for my childhood dog throughout kidney disease. Whether your pet is playful, shy, young, senior, or needs a little extra patience, I'll treat them like one of my own and make sure they feel safe, comfortable, and loved while you're away. Pet care is already a big part of my daily routine. I have a dog of my own, so I'm used to early mornings, frequent potty breaks, walks, playtime, and sticking to a schedule. I work part-time, which gives me flexibility for drop-in visits, walks, and pet sitting. I'll always make sure your pet gets the attention, exercise, and care they deserve. I care for every pet as if they were my own. I always follow each owner's instructions carefully, including feeding schedules, medications, crate routines, and exercise needs. I have experience caring for both dogs and cats, including pets with medical needs, so I'm comfortable paying close attention to behavior and making sure they stay safe, happy, and comfortable. I'll also keep you updated with plenty of photos and messages so you know your pet is in good hands.

2nd time using Alex for 9 days as an in house sitter. Fantastic job as usual. It's such a relief knowing our boy is being taken care of by someone who cares about him. We were updated several times a day with pictures and we were in constant contact. We will always use Alex when he is available and I would highly recommend his services. He's the best.

Lenora was absolutely amazing. She stayed in our home and took care of our dog, Cloud, for 5 days, and we couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. She was attentive, reliable, and clearly gave Cloud so much love and care. We received regular updates after walks along with plenty of adorable photos, which gave us total peace of mind while we were away. Our home was well cared for, and Cloud was happy, relaxed, and clearly comfortable with her. Lenora is hands-down the best sitter we’ve found here, and we would 100% book her again in the future. Highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone they can truly trust.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Plainedge on Rover is $72.15 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 17,656 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Plainedge. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Plainedge walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Plainedge maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Plainedge choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Plainedge. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 93% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
