Jessica is absolutely amazing! She took care of my two dogs while I attended an event, and I couldn’t have asked for a better sitter. Both of my dogs are very clingy and one has had a couple health problems the last month, which makes finding the right person to watch them really difficult. Knowing she’s a veterinary nurse gave me so much peace of mind, and she went above and beyond to make sure they were happy, healthy, and comfortable the entire time. She also was able to make it to us in a snow storm and I am so so grateful for that. She sent me so many photos of them and it was really nice to not have to worry about them. When I came home, both dogs were calm, happy, and clearly well looked after. I’m so grateful for the love and attention she gave them, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book her again. If you’re looking for someone who will treat your pets like their own and has the experience to handle even medically complex animals, Jessica is the best!

Jennifer and John were such a blessing, on a seriously last minute booking! They were so responsive, made time in the less than 24 hour notice request to come over to meet our dogs. They were thorough in explaining the care they provide and very personable! As I was so nervous letting people I’d never met stay in our home they were reassuring and attentive to my multiple questions. While away, they sent many updates and pictures, again so reassuring to me! They also are so neat and tidy and took such good care of our home cleaning up after themselves, the dogs as well as washing the linens! Would absolutely recommend!! Thank you Jennifer and John!

About: I’ve dog-sat for multiple families throughout the years, as well as 1 year work-experience at an animal boarding/doggy daycare. I have reliable transportation and an open schedule. At this stage, I have significant flexibility in my weekly schedule, which makes pet care a great fit. I am available to accommodate a variety of pet-care needs, including walks, drop-in visits, overnight stays, and last-minute bookings. I value being dependable and making sure pets feel comfortable and cared for. I currently live with my Mom and Step-Dad in a small home with some land. We have a large fenced-in yard for our dogs to play in as well as a catio for our cats to lounge in.

About: I have taken care of pets since I was 11 years old. I have bathed, fed, walked, and played with dogs and cats alike. I love it a lot and animals just bring me joy. I currently work part time at another job so I’ll have time to help take care of your pets throughout the week and keep them company. I am able to move around a bunch to play with your pet! I can also cuddle and relax with them if that’s more their speed. I understand every pet is different and I can work with them however they need! I’ll also make sure to stay communicative, letting you know what’s going on and sending pictures of your fur baby’s.

We have used Alaska several times for our Saint Bernard Margo and Margo always seems to enjoy her visits! Alaska is friendly, communicative, and attentive. She lets us know if Margo's been having a good day, or if something was off. She's exactly what you want if you're looking for someone you can trust on Rover.

Amber does a fantastic job watching Archie. She is punctual, communicates well, and has very good intuition about what is best for him. The weather has been very hot and she has appropriately gotten him time outside when able, then made him come inside before he gets too warm. I highly recommend booking her!

Cody was awesome! He did some house sitting with my two dogs over a four day period. I never worried once after he came to meet and greet with our dogs and get acquainted before we left on a trip. He was flexible and willing to make an extra trip to let my dogs out one last time before we got home. Very appreciative of him!

We couldn’t be happier with the care our three dogs received! From the moment we left, she kept us updated with regular messages and adorable photos that gave us total peace of mind. It was so clear she treated them not just as clients, but as her own — they were loved, comfortable, and happy the entire time. We will absolutely be booking again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a sitter who truly goes above and beyond!

About: New to Rover, but not new to dog sitting :) I have several years of experience taking care of dogs, of all ages & breeds! I moved from Maine to WV and now have the time to be a dog sitter again! My overall love for animals and the ability to connect with them, makes me a safe and reliable sitter for your pup :) We have two open acres of grass for your dog to run around and play and a large tile floor sun room (with AC) for them to stay. My Great Dane stays in the sunroom in a playpen when she isn’t playing with chipmunks outside! If you prefer your dog to be on leash when outside-no problem! I can accommodate to your dogs’ needs! I have a 9 yr old female Great Dane who is real sweet & fully trained to my commands. She stays in a playpen in the AC, tiled sunroom with your pup. Your pup will have the one-on-one care that he/she needs while you are away. Fresh water will always be present :) My main goal is to keep every dog I care for safe & happy!

About: I often volunteer at the SPCA to spend more time with animals. I love animals, and it is a great take away to spend time with a furry friend amidst all of life’s chaos. I currently work a day job semi full time, but I make sure to plan around with my rover schedule! My two pets are my world, and I have fit my home schedule surrounding caring for them. I prefer to lounge around with furry babies! I have grown up with pets my entire life, and know how important it is to give them a great quality of life. I will make sure all the pets needs are met, and have a primary focus of communication with owners. I want all of my clients to feel comfortable with my service, and to enjoy their time away knowing their babies are being loved!

Alyssa is an exceptional dog sitter and exceeded my expectations. My German Shepherd, Ava, is highly independent and energetic with borderline diva tendencies. Alyssa had my girl for a week while I was hiking in the Black Hills. From her pics and communication, I could see that Ava was in good hands. Alyssa treated my Ava and my home as if it was her own—I’m so glad I found her! I will continue to use Alyssa and recommend her highly.

About: I am a 63 year old cancer survivor who is now disabled! I would love to babysit your pets for you in your home! Anytime! I have 2 dogs & 5 cats I now pet sit for. I am a true animal lover. I have 3 cats at home whom I love very much! This would be the perfect job for me. Although, I don't think of petsitting as a job. I would love to play with or walk your dogs for you. I would treat your pets with as much love as you do! Have been pet sitting for 4 years. I like to play with the dogs, take them for walks. Size or breed doesn't matter. All dogs are welcome! Why I love dog sitting I have been a dog lover for 25 years. I have had several (4) dogs in my life. The first was a german shepherd hybrid with wolf. She was beautiful! My husband had a little terrier mix who stayed in the house. We also had a black lab & a mutt named July. If I could have a dog now, I would; but I don't have a fenced-in yard. I really don't want to leave a dog on a chain all the time. My experience administering medication I can administer oral meds. I’m currently not working so im available week days & weekends. I’m very flexible & don’t need a lot of time before job. I really love animals! I can’t board animals. I don’t have the space. In other peoples homes I can play with their pets & enjoy taking them for a walk.

FAQs for House Sitting - Mount Vernon

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Mount Vernon on Rover is $74.9 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 138 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Mount Vernon. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Mount Vernon walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Mount Vernon maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Mount Vernon choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Mount Vernon. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
