“Amanda was a godsend when our house sitter cancelled last minute. We met her first then her with her dog, Sedona, and I knew right away this would work out really well. You see my dog, Millie, doesn’t warm up to people easily and doesn’t always play nice with other dogs but Millie instantly liked both of them. Amanda stayed at our house along with Sedona, so Millie was spoiled having her two new friends stay with her. They went on many walks and Amanda sent me lots of pictures while we were gone. About: I have had dogs my entire life, and have always been very good with my own dogs, along with other people's dogs (friends, family, neighbors.) I am currently in-between jobs after being laid off from a COVID testing facility and im looking for a way to get some supplemental income, and work with animals at the same time. “I can't recommend Kate enough! My doggo (Kooper) has some separation anxiety. When I reached out to Kate we discussed what her home would be like for a dog. I was a little nervous, because typically we ask sitters to come and stay at our house but decided that we would do a meet a greet to see how that went. Kate, Cody, Gus (dog), and Poe (cat) made our dog and us so comfortable. Gus and Kooper got along great and even though Koop has never been around cats, him and Poe were fast friends! Kate has a great yard for playing and her schedules allows for lots of 1:1 time with the pets. Kate was flexible, provided consistent updates, and was extremely responsive with her communications. Everything went wonderfully! Kooper was sent home happy, safe, and with a positive report card and goodies. I will definitely be connecting with Kate again about future visits!”

About: For the past 2 years I have fostered dogs through Fetch Wisconsin Rescue. With rescue dogs, I first focus on decompression, resiliency and relationship building. If you have a puppy or a rescue dog who you are just starting to build a relationship with, I can support you! In June 2023, I adopted an adolescent Alaskan Husky on an emergency basis. He & I are active learners in the Susan Garrett "Recaller" and "Wag Nation" training. If this style of games-based training sounds interesting to you, I'd love to help you build consistency and confidence in your pup! A lot of what I do with pups is informed by the Resilience Rainbow (popularized by the Behavior Vets) and pattern games (popularized by Leslie McDevitt). As a staff member with the Dane County Humane Society, I continue to grow my understanding of how to implement these practices with dogs who are new to me. I would love to contribute to your peace of mind by supporting the peace of mind of your dog while they are with me during your time "away". I work from home as a medical interpreter on the phone/video. This means that I can pepper my day with direct dog supervision and targeted practice on growing skills. I also have 3 5x5 kennels and very large crates for down time, if indicated. I would really like to consult with you about how to manage "down" time for your dog. Dogs are not allowed on the furniture at my house. I do have two resident cats, but/and they do not share spaces with the dogs I have either foster, own or care for. My house has a fenced in yard (6 foot fence). I also live very close to our recreational bike path, and if you are interested, I would be happy to talk about whether canicross or biking options are appropriate for your dog. I also live within a 5-minute drive from the Prairie Forest park, a huge wooded area where dogs can be off leash. For dogs in my care, however, I could offer the option of using a long line to take them on a sniffari in the park. I am also vetted to enroll in the Karen Pryor Academy Dog Trainer Professional program. I plan on starting my studies formally once my working dog is recovered from an acute Lyme infection. If you are interested, I could offer to work with your dog (along with video-taped sessions) as part of my studies.

I will honor your diet requests for your pet and will send you updates and photos throughout my stay. Also, I can administer basic medications or topical treatments if necessary. If you decide to do any training with me, I use positive reinforcement and never employ any aversives. I will monitor your dog for signs of stress and stop the training if your pup seems overwhelmed or anxious. I like to go slow and never force anything on an unsure dog - respect and safety are key!
