“Kelly did an excellent job taking care of our Figgus! She was so easy to work with and flexible with our unique situation. He looked so happy in every picture she sent of him. I could tell he was being well taken care of. We would highly recommend her services!”

“Our pup did great at Mandi’s! I didn’t have to worry at all because she sent pictures of his day and an update of what he did. She was so sweet to send him home with a personalized bandana and a jar of homemade treats! Definitely recommend!”

“Mindy took such great care of Fred. Her home is perfect for dogs and he seemed comfortable and happy from the moment he got there. Communication was excellent and Fred clearly had a good time in her care.”

“Excellent pet sitter! She boarded our puppy for two nights and took great care of her. Our puppy came home happy, healthy, and well-loved. Great communication and a caring environment. Highly recommend!”

“Our dog Dobby just finished her first tryout stay with Daniela. It seems like she had a good time and there weren't any big problems. Daniela kept us in the loop and sent lots of pics during the days. Dobby seems pretty happy with her stay, so we are as well. We will definitely be getting in touch with Daniela again for further dog watching.”

“Timothy is an excellent Rover sitter! He boarded our dog at his house for 9 nights. I like that he had us do a meet and greet first to ensure our dog would be a good fit. This was our first time using a sitter and I was nervous at first, but Timothy had great communication and I really appreciated the regular updates and great pictures. Our dog did well socializing and playing with the other dogs there. We will definitely be booking with Timothy again!”

“Fantastic experience. It's been years since our dogs stayed with a sitter, but we needed to make a last minute trip and Sarah was local, available, and had several positive reviews. We had a meet and greet the day before our booking and she eased any concerns we had. We received photos throughout our trip and there was always an open line of communication. We will not hesitate to book with Sarah again.”

“Sarah opened her home to my girls and made them comfortable. They usually go to their granny's but all were going on this trip, so it was a very big deal for them to stay elsewhere. They played, walked, rested, and probably were questioning coming home, they were given so much attention. Sarah shared photos and even with a snowstorm ensured they were safe and had fun. I was very pleased. We will call upon sarah again!”

“We had a great experience leaving our Aussidoodle, Willie, with Cynthia and her sweet lab, Luna. I received numerous pictures and was happy to know Willie had a very large, fenced in yard for roaming and exercise. Cynthia treated Willie like her own and gave positive feedback about his stay. I won't hesitate to request Cynthia for future boarding.”

“Tre'Ana is a great sitter and I will definitely use her services again. When I dropped him off her daughter wanted to play with soon as I got in the house lol. I appreciate when the family loves on Tyson just as much as I do. Thank you so much!”

“Tilly was so loved and cared for, I wasn't sure she'd want to come back home with me! I was so appreciative of the communication with updated photos and videos; I'm also grated for helps with behavior modifications since my dog is a foster and still learning the ropes. Highly recommended!”

Plenty of toys and treats will be given (with your permission of course.) Please consider I have a friendly dog I may keep with me if you want an overnight stay. The dog is good with most dogs and likes cats. Otherwise, I'm happy to hang out during the day for a while and do drop-ins. “This was my first time needing a sitter and I was pretty nervous about it. I've never had to leave my sweet boy anywhere other than the vet for a day. Carol was very accommodating. She allowed me to see where he would be, answered any questions I had and sent pictures to me to assure me he was ok. I was grateful for that. That helped ease my mind. I would definitely use her again if it should become necessary again. She's awesome!!”

“Rosie stayed with Jordan for a long first stay, and she was a very happy pup when we picked her up. Jordan was really easy to coordinate with. We would definitely have Rosie stay with him again!”

“John and his family were amazing with our puppy. Communication was excellent and we enjoyed the pictures and videos they sent during our trip. They took him in like a member of their family and our little dude was kept healthy and happy. We will definitely be rebooking with this wonderful family!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Marine home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Marine.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Marine sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in IL ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
