Casey took care of our pup while we were off island for a weekend; he even brought him his new favorite toy. Casey is very pleasant and we felt very comfortable with him after our meet and greet. He sent updates with pictures and left our place just as we left it. Our dog had a great time with him and we would definitely work with him again!

About: What is it about those dog souls? They capture me, each and every one. I am a Registered Nurse with a heart for all dogs. I have had 3 dogs myself, the last one being a bully breed who taught me a great deal of how to work with dogs who require high management. I understand dog behaviors and idiosyncrasies and enjoy working with different personalities. I work from home so can keep eyes on your pup at most all times. I enjoy breaking up the day with a dog walk or training. I am happy to walk, run, play fetch, work on training or any other request during your pups stay. I enjoy spoiling dogs. But I also practice boundaries and behavioral expectations. My rate includes 2 walks a day and/or other exercise. I also provide a stuffed kong and other chewy toys unless you prefer they don't have ☺️ I am a proponent for dog parents to have a fi or gos collar for their pups. I think it's helpful for you as the owner to know where your pup is and the exercise they are getting as well, in an unfortunate/ unlikely event of getting out we can track them. I work from home so am available at most all times. I also have a half acre fenced yard If possible I'd like to do a meet and greet before sitting. I understand the trust it takes to allow someone to take care of you own pup but also to allow into ones home when you are away. I want to ensure owners are comfortable with my level of care and trust you instill with my service

Courtney was amazing while I was away. She took great care of my pets and my home and sent me updates each day, which I really appreciated. Coming home was so nice, the house was all set and she even left me flowers. I felt at ease knowing everything was in good hands and will definitely be booking with her again in the future.

About: As a teacher and mother, I’m a natural caregiver and there’s nothing I love more than caring for dogs. I have a gift for understanding them and providing the right kind of love and affection. I’ve worked at a vet, helped dog rescues in Korea, and have been a dog sitter since childhood. Our dog Prim lives a splendid life in our new fenced backyard. We brought her to Maui from Korea and have showered her with love. Along the way we’ve watched many buddies for her, always making these dogs feel like part of the family. Let me put your mind at ease, give your dog a safe and loving second home, and provide you with some cute photos too! I am a teacher so I’m usually home by 3 pm and have a lot of holidays off. My husband works four days a week. We’re always home on the weekends and have a great setup when we’re not here so that pets can enjoy both the house and the backyard. My yard is fully fenced in and live on a quiet cul-de-sac. We are very aware of potential dangers and try to always have a plan in case it’s needed. We’re informed on all feeding precautions and exercise care during play and meal time. Both our kids, even our toddler, are careful and kind with all animals. I passed my dog whisperer genes on to them!

Jonathan was amazing! Very friendly, obviously loves and understands dogs, kept our place in great shape and our pets happy! The frequent photos helped us overcome our guilt and anxiety about leaving our elder, very attached pooch behind for a quick trip off island. Will definitely use him again and highly recommend to others!

About: I’ve had two amazing dogs and cats in my lifetime, volunteered at an animal shelter since I was 13, and researched canine cognition at Duke University! I was also prevet in college, worked with many dogs and pups, and have experience training service puppies. I have most weekends off with occasional weekdays off from my full time job. Happy to house sit or dog walk outside of my work hours and commute! I have been a pet sitter for many people over the years and I’m extremely responsible, attentive, and comfortable around dogs and cats. I’ve had two dogs and two cats of my own and worked training service puppies in my free time. Very active and love being outside will give your pets lots of love and attention while you’re away!

About: I’ve cared for dogs of all breeds, sizes, and energy levels since I was a kid. I have experience with puppies, senior dogs, leash training, and administering meds. Friends, neighbors, and family often count on me to walk, feed, and care for their dogs when they’re away. I truly enjoy getting to know each dog’s personality and routine. My schedule is flexible and varies week to week, so I’m happy to work with you to find times that fit. I don’t offer boarding in my home, but I’m available for dog walking, house sitting, and drop-in visits on weekdays and weekends depending on availability. About: I have been a Rover sitter and dog walker since 2023 and have always had a lifelong love for all animals. Growing up on a farm in rural Nebraska, I was responsible for horses, cattle, pigs, chickens, goats, cats, dogs, and even fish. This hands-on experience honed my understanding of different pet needs and personalities. My cat, Milly, has been a part of my family for 9 years and counting. I have worked at a vet clinic and interned at the California Wildlife Center, which gave me veterinary medical knowledge and skills. I am comfortable with medication administration and special diets. With 20+ years of pet care experience, I'm dedicated to ensuring your fur family receives the utmost care and attention they deserve! I'm thrilled to offer my flexible availability to cater to your pet's needs! I am available on weekdays in the mornings and afternoons, and can schedule for midday as well depending on your location. Most weekends I am available to schedule for any time that suits you best. Based on the pet parent’s guidance, I tailor my care approach to match their pet’s personalities and preferences. I have experience working in veterinary medicine and can help administer any medications or give special diets. Safety, happiness, and well-being are my top priorities.

FAQs for House Sitting - Makena

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Makena on Rover is $44.4 per night (as of June 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of June 2026, there are 160 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Makena. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Makena walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Makena maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Makena choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Makena. On Rover:

  • 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
