For me, this means maintaining a clean and tidy environment free from any potential hazards (e.g., not leaving chocolate at a level a dog could reasonably reach; making sure gates and doors are closed). In addition to maintaining a safe environment, I try to be emotionally tuned in to the animal I am watching. For instance, when the Weimaraner I watch gets anxious due to people walking past the house, I talk to her in a soft voice and pet her until she calms down. If I zip to the store, I will close the blinds so she is not in a position to be triggered by this stimulus.

About: I’ve been an animal lover my whole life, starting my pet care career in high school at a doggie daycare, and ending up here, with 6 years of professional experience and the same love of animals I’ve had since the beginning. I do have a full time job that prevents me from doing any jobs between the hours of 7am-4pm Tuesday-Thursday. Friday/Saturday I am available beginning at 2pm, and Sunday/Monday I have open availability. I treat all animals the way I would hope someone would take care of my girls when I go on vacation.
