“I highly recommend Desiree for pet care! She watched my dog, Luna, while I was away for the day and did a fantastic job. She was reliable, followed all feeding and walking instructions perfectly, and most importantly, Luna seemed very happy and well-cared for when I returned. If you are looking for someone trustworthy and attentive to look after your pets, Desiree is an excellent choice.”

“I'm so happy I found Alexis here. She is knowledgeable and very sweet with my elderly puppy. ChiChi usually barks at strangers but the first time she met Alexis, she went right up to her and rolled over for belly rubs. Alexis took good care of her while I was out of town, doing a drop in visit to walk and feed ChiChi. She sent me photos while she was here. It was reassuring to know ChiChi was taken care of while I was gone. I'll be sure to ask for Alexis again when I can't take ChiChi with me.”

About: I’ve been pet sitting for about 4 years now and I love all animals! I can do puppies all the way to senior pets and I have no problem with any breeds! I also love reptiles and rodents if you have any in addition to dogs or cats, i’d happily do anything you need me to do for them! I am a college student at siue but I still have a super flexible schedule and i have a lot of free time to hang out with pets! i’ve grown up with pets all my life and even worked at a doggy daycare in my hometown so i’d love to be there for pets who don’t like daycares and prefer to stay in their own space. Also, weather doesn’t bother me so i’ll walk your pet in rain or shine!

“Dani was very responsive. She provided my elderly cat with the medication that it needed on a daily basis. Being a first time user of a service providing drop-in visits, I was anxious at first. However, Dani took great care in documenting her visits and my home is in as good a condition now as when I left it.”

About: I used to foster dogs. My yard is pretty big and I have a doggie door. My dogs do not mind visitors. I am off work during the summer and all major holidays. I am a teacher so I am off for the summers. When school is in session, I get off early and I am usually home before 4pm. I have a fenced in yard that can be accessed by a doggie door. I have 3 small dogs. I walk them and play with them on a regular basis. I also have 2 cats.

About: I have taken care of dogs since I was 11 years old. I have had a few of my own and was relied on by neighbors, family, and friends to take care of their dogs while they were away! I am currently a college student, and also work part time. I am off work for a couple months, so I have plenty of time to feed, let out, and play with your animals! I do not have other animals come to my house because I have one older dog of my own, and my house does not have a ton of room for more animals.

“Having a total care senior dog can be extremely stressful when planning a trip out of town. My dogs used to be road trip champs but unfortunately due to old age and one handicap, they have to stay behind. From the moment Mason came for a meet and greet both dogs greeted him and were calm and happy in their presence. Masons confidence and willingness to care for my total care senior dog was a relief. I was able to go out of town for 5 days with a peace of mind knowing that they were not only well taken care of but happy as well. I highly recommend him for all your doggie needs.”

She was very sweet to our pups and did everything we asked her to do. She communicated well with pictures and notes and sent a text if she had any questions. We will definitely be using her again!”

About: Hi! I’m Sarah! I’m a dog mom myself and genuinely love getting to spend time with other people’s pups. I started dog sitting for family and friends and loved it enough that I decided to branch out and meet some new furry friends! I work from home, so my schedule is pretty flexible and I’m able to spend lots of time with the dogs I’m caring for. I know every dog has their own personality, quirks, and routine, and I’m happy to follow whatever makes your pup happiest and most comfortable while you’re away. As a dog owner, I also know how hard it can be to leave your dog with someone else. I want you to be able to enjoy your time away without worrying about how your pup is doing. Expect lots of love, attention, playtime, and plenty of picture updates! Basically, I’m very happy being the person who talks to your dog like they’re a human and sends you way too many pictures of them. 🐾 I work from home, which gives me plenty of flexibility to care for your pup throughout the day! I’m available for regular potty breaks, walks, playtime, meals, and plenty of attention. I’m also happy to follow your dog’s normal feeding, walking, and bedtime routine so their stay feels as familiar and comfortable as possible. Your dog’s safety and comfort are my top priorities. While I don’t have a fenced-in yard, dogs are always leashed and supervised outside, and I’m able to provide frequent potty breaks and multiple walks throughout the day. I have a dog of my own, so I understand how important it is to know your pup is in good hands. I’ll follow any instructions you provide and do my best to keep their routine consistent while you’re away.

About: I’ve had a dog since I was 9 years old. I’ve been taking care of them ever since! I have been watching other dogs since I was a teenager. I’ve pet sat a good variety of dogs, from border collies to labs and teeny little Pomeranian mixes! I DO NOT DO SLEEPOVERS I have a good deal of availability during the summer, so my schedule is very flexible! I teach private lessons on Monday and Friday afternoons for a couple hours, otherwise my other jobs provide me a good deal of flexibility, so that I can pet set as much as possible! I do NOT do overnights! At my home our dogs have an electric fence, and have been properly trained not to cross the invisible line. I have also lived in areas where dogs are fenced in, and even with neither type of fence and just a long chain attached to the ground. Regardless I will take care of your pet regardless of the outdoor situation. I am pretty physically fit, so I can carve out some good time to take them on walks, long or short! I follow your instructions to the T when it comes to specific needs and potty/bed times. I will come to you and do whatever needs to be done to make sure your pet is happy and safe!

She is a great communicator and sent us daily updates and pictures of our babies. She also took such great care of our home, even bringing packages in and ensuring our robovaccum doesn’t her stuck. I would absolutely hire her again and you should too!”

About: I love all animals. Ive worked in a vet clinic, a PetSmart and an animal shelter. Animals are not seen in pets in my eyes but part of your family. They are very therapeutic and comforting. I'm okay with any breed of dog, mutt or pure bred. I have had multiple breeds of dogs and currently have a hound, cane Corso, and three cats! Working at different locations I have set with any (stubborn) breeds. It brings me joy taking care of animals. They have no voice so we have to be their voice. They give us unconditional love and support so we must return that favor. If you have any questions please feel free to get ahold of me. I'm flexible with hours. Have a good day, and enjoy your companion! I am a stay at home so I have all the time to spend with any babies! Everyone gets a lot of attention, the dogs eat twice a day, cats have food all dat. Water available 24/7 I have a huge yard! We have 9 acres and love animals! I love meeting new animals but I cant bring anymore home! So I shall try and pet sit and walk instead

About: I used to have two dogs: a German Shepherd and a Pug. I also had two cats. My friend took them in when I moved and I still get to see them regularly. They were the most loving dogs and cats I could have ever asked for. I love animals and will treat your pet like it’s my own! I work from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM on weekdays, but I’m always available after work and on weekends to take care of your pet. I can provide your pet with all the attention they require. I reside in an apartment with ample outdoor space, but I’ll take them for walks whenever necessary.

Booking me "Animal Planet", belly rubs, and fun will be in your future (wiggle wag wiggle wag wink) Thank you, dawn I currently work part time as a massage therapist with a very flexible schedule. I will try and arrange potty breaks close to what your pet is used to but there will be days I can be gone up to fours hours. I treat your pet as you do and keep them on their routine. I always have a pet on a lead unless they’re in their own backyard. I usually have them stay clear of other animals and children since they’re are extra anxiety’s due to owner/parents being away. About: Some see them as animals, I see them as little people... whom deserves to be loved and cared for properly. I am dedicated and trust worthy. SAFETY is my number one priority when it comes to your pet. I am a Welder by trade and its currently too hot outside for my career, so I'll have lots of time for your pet till the fall when it cools down. I have two very friendly children in my home, ages 17 and 7. We have lots of room in our home and a big back yard which includes chickens. The chickens stay inside their chicken run, they don't like dogs or cats anyway. My schedule is pretty open right now, so just let me know when you would like services, and I'll let you know if I'm available. We currently have chickens and one mixed breed dog named "Charlie" who loves all dogs, cats and even the chickens. Your pet would have our undivided attention! We absolutely love dogs and cats.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.

Before booking, confirm:

  • the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
  • the care instructions the sitter should follow;
  • which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
  • how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.

Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.

Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.

During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first Meet & Greet .

sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.

Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
