Annalise took such great care of my pups. Let me be clear - there were four prep meetings leading up to her actual stay because of how challenging/anxiety-ridden my dogs can be. She has been patient, understanding, and willing to work with them where they are at. Throughout my five-day trip, I received ample photos and videos which I loved. It gave me peace of mind knowing they were getting tons of snuggles, their meals on time, and lots of outside time. All in all, I came home to happy pups and I'm so grateful. I've already booked with Annalise again! Highly recommend!

Our dogs were well cared for, and we returned home to find both them and our house in great shape, which we truly appreciated. One thing that would have made the experience even better would have been receiving a brief daily update without having to check in first. A quick message or photo each day would provide peace of mind and be greatly appreciated by pet owners while they're away.

About: I have taken care of pets for many years now for relatives, neighbors, and friends. It is something I enjoy to do when my schedule is open enough to do so! I am providing stop in, walking, day to day, and overnight care for pets. This includes regular activities like walking, playing, potty, feeding, car rides, cuddles, all included in the set price. I can also bathe the pets for an additional fee. I currently work full time my work day is typically split in half. Giving me the perfect timestamps throughout the day to check in on the pets. I work only in the Harrisonburg area so I am all around town. I am a local to Harrisonburg and know all the dog-friendly spots! Pet care fits into my daily schedule as I have always had pets until college, I am use to fixing my schedule around them, as pets are like children. I work short shifts where I drive to different clients all day, giving me many breaks throughout the day to spend time with the pets! I am a very neat and righty person. As I work with elderly patients, I am not afraid of bacteria or most things! I believe I am trustworthy for pet sitting as I have extensive experience in caring for humans.

About: I’ve been caring for other peoples pets for about 8 years now. I have experience in dog walking, house visits, dog and cat bathing, dog walking, runs, administering medication, and aggressive behavior. I have experience with a wide range of animals. From chihuahuas to pitbulls, bunnies, ferrets, horses, and guinea pigs, no pet is beyond my care! I’m currently a full time student on summer break. This means my schedule is open and available 5 days a week for a range of times. I’m ready to care for your pet however they need while still maintaining a clean and safe environment at all times. I’m no stranger to medication schedules, specific feeding routines, and quirky personalities. I love just sitting and playing with the pets or taking them on long walks.

Your pets and home are in excellent hands with Elisabeth! We had to leave home for 3 days under stressful circumstances, and we're so thankful Elisabeth agreed to housesit and watch our 2 dogs. We had a meet & greet and were impressed with her thoroughness in making sure she understood the dogs' routines. We received pictures and updates regularly, and we truly appreciated Elisabeth's communication - we never felt a moment of worry about the dogs while we were gone. We highly recommend Elisabeth for your house & pet sitting needs!

About: I have always had a deep love for animals, especially dogs and cats, and caring for them brings me genuine joy. Over the years, I have gained experience looking after pets of different ages, sizes, and personalities, including feeding, walking, playing, administering basic care, and providing plenty of affection and attention. I understand that every pet is unique and deserves patience, kindness, and a safe environment where they feel comfortable and loved. Whether your pet is energetic and playful or prefers a calm and quiet routine, I am committed to treating them like a member of my own family. My goal is to ensure that both pets and their owners feel happy, comfortable, and confident while they are in my care. I am currently free most of the summer as I am a teacher. I am willing to work with your schedule and what works best for your pet. I will play with them, give them all the space that they need in order to get used to me. I will be patiently waiting for them to come to me and allow me to play with them. Making sure they are happy and safe.

About: I've had cats and dogs growing up, and have loved taking care of them. I've pet sitted for neighbors the past couple of years, and have recently widened my customer range. I have cared for dogs of all ages, cats, and birds! I will have a part time job so there are days when I’m out of the house for 8 hours, but not super often. My weekends are pretty free typically! I head to college in late August, so I just have a few months to take care of animals. I try to care for pets as closely to how their owners do so they feel comfortable! I will happily play with them indoors or out, or just cuddle with them if that’s what they like. I can also crate them if that’s their safe place.

But when she met Abigail for the first time, she immediately warmed up to her. We will rebook with Abigail again!

About: I’ve owned dogs for my whole life as well as rabbits, cats, fish, and hamsters. I’ve professionally cared for cats, dogs, and horses as well as being a part time volunteer at the RHSPCA in my free time where I do dog walking , cat socializing, and working in the animal clinic I have experience caring for both senior dogs and cats as well as experience administering topical and oral medications for both kinds of pets. I am also able to house calmer large dogs however I know i unfortunately cannot provide adequate exercise for high energy dogs as I am a full time summer student so I will not be at the house sometimes for a few hours at a time in the early morning. I am happily able to care for any breed of dog or cat as well as any care level however with animals on specially timed diets or routines may not work in my schedule so please message me to check in! Please feel free to message me at any time as often as needed, I will always have my notifications on and will at the latest respond within a day and will do my very best to be able to accommodate most, if not all animals <3 Currently I am a full time student, I have most weekday afternoons/evenings off as well as my weekends are typically free. Please check my calendar as well as reaching out to me as my availability is flexible! If in my own home your pet will get their own room as well as having no interaction with the other pets (at your discretion) as well as only using food and items provided by the owner. If I do an in home care I am extremely respectful of other people places I will not bring anyone else over I will exclusively be there to care for the animals and that applies to dog walking as well. I intend to build good relationships with my clients as to build a good repertoire for my Vet school applications

About: I’ve been around pets for most of my life. Starting when I would take care of my family fishes when I was younger. Then, later, with our family dog, a tiny Maltese named Lucy! As of late, I’ve spent my time watching over my friends’ two kitties, as well as helping them with their dog sits when they need an extra hand! I am currently a full-time student at JMU. I have plenty of availability during the summer, and when the school year begins, weekday nights, and weekends! By being friendly and gentle, I hope to create a safe and fun atmosphere for your pet(s)! I am communicative and reliable, and will always make sure to give you updates and photos, so you can see how your pets are doing when you are away!

About: Not only have I grown up with cats and dogs, I’ve also been responsible for the care of my friends’ and neighbors’ pets on multiple occasions. From playing with little kittens to helping a senior pet with medications, I’m ready for anything and can’t wait to love on your pet! I am not currently working, so my schedule is very flexible to fit the needs of your furry ones! I can spend however long pets might need to feel comfortable. If you have cats, I’ll be sure to give them the attention they ask for! Whether that be cuddling, playing, or sleeping. I will never invade the space of a cat if they are apprehensive or shy. If you have dogs, I’m ready to play a rough game of tug of war, walk around, or snuggle up on the couch (if permitted). And if you have both, that’s great—I’m ready to support them!

Madeleine has been a huge help! Not only did she put in the time and effort to meet with my dogs a few times before her first overnight (they have anxiety), but she went above and beyond provide a good experience. What's more impressive is her adaptability and willingness to work with unexpected change. From her first overnight to her second, one of my dogs had a medical emergency and needed medication administered and special behavioral treatment. She was willing to take on the extra responsibility, gave me confidence that it would be handled appropriately, and allowed me to attend my work event without stress over how things would go. I highly recommend Madeleine and will definitely be booking her again!

FAQs for House Sitting - Harrisonburg

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Harrisonburg on Rover is $38.85 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 250 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Harrisonburg. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Harrisonburg walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Harrisonburg maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Harrisonburg choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Harrisonburg. On Rover:

  • 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
