“Cate was wonderful! Accommodated a time change last minute and took such good care of our doodle. Was great sending photo and updates. Cate’s knowledge of dogs is impressive! Cate’s top priority is making sure your pets needs are meet and your pet is happy. She took our fur baby for 3 walks, that put a smile on our doodles face! Thank you Cate👏🏼”

“Mariany was attentive, communicative, and gave great care and consideration for my senior dog! I would highly recommend and look forward to having her care again!”

“Ross was wonderful with our very anxious pup. He was great communicator and sent pictures each day. We could hardly tell someone had stayed in our house, he had such a light touch! Highly recommend!”

“Lydia was great! Although I requested her help with a very short notice, she was able to check in on my little Kody multiple times for the day. Kody has health challenges that Lydia was able to graciously work with. I am so grateful that Lydia could help. She truly saved the day!”

“Samantha is a gem. She arrived on time, spent considerable time playing with and walking my pup, and sent lovely notes and photos. I would recommend her to anyone.”

“Annalise took such great care of my pups. Let me be clear - there were four prep meetings leading up to her actual stay because of how challenging/anxiety-ridden my dogs can be. She has been patient, understanding, and willing to work with them where they are at. Throughout my five-day trip, I received ample photos and videos which I loved. It gave me peace of mind knowing they were getting tons of snuggles, their meals on time, and lots of outside time. All in all, I came home to happy pups and I'm so grateful. I've already booked with Annalise again! Highly recommend!”

“What an amazing experience. I had a last minute trip and Aamirah was there to make it easy for me to go and feel comfortable with my dog being well cared for. She took the time to update me daily about my girl. Huge thank you”

About: I’ve been around pets for most of my life. Starting when I would take care of my family fishes when I was younger. Then, later, with our family dog, a tiny Maltese named Lucy! As of late, I’ve spent my time watching over my friends’ two kitties, as well as helping them with their dog sits when they need an extra hand! I am currently a full-time student at JMU. I have plenty of availability during the summer, and when the school year begins, weekday nights, and weekends! By being friendly and gentle, I hope to create a safe and fun atmosphere for your pet(s)! I am communicative and reliable, and will always make sure to give you updates and photos, so you can see how your pets are doing when you are away!
About: I have had dogs all my life, and have several years of experience as a handler for UKC Showmanship and Confirmation competitions. I have worked with dogs of all sizes, kinds, and energy levels. I have basic knowledge of obedience training and am the first choice for care when it comes to my family and friends. I work as a server, so most of my availability is during the day before 5pm, weekends included. Please always trust my availability in this description rather than Rover's availability, as I can't customize times for specific days. I am currently available as of June 14th, 2025 for drop-in visits and dog walks. For house sitting please inquire further as it is easier to schedule for it. Sun: 12-2:30pm Mon 7-9am, 12:00-2:30pm Tuesday: 7-9am, 12-8:00pm Wednesday: 7-9am, 4:00-6:30pm Friday: 9am-2:30pm Saturday: 9am-2:30pm Looking forward to meeting your Furbabies! I believe in meeting your pets where they are and working with you and the pet to create a no-fear environment. Redirection and positive association are always the techniques I go to first. My goal is to keep you and your pet as happy and healthy as possible.
About: I have taken care of pets for many years now for relatives, neighbors, and friends. It is something I enjoy to do when my schedule is open enough to do so! I am providing stop in, walking, day to day, and overnight care for pets. This includes regular activities like walking, playing, potty, feeding, car rides, cuddles, all included in the set price. I can also bathe the pets for an additional fee. I currently work full time my work day is typically split in half. Giving me the perfect timestamps throughout the day to check in on the pets. I work only in the Harrisonburg area so I am all around town. I am a local to Harrisonburg and know all the dog-friendly spots! Pet care fits into my daily schedule as I have always had pets until college, I am use to fixing my schedule around them, as pets are like children. I work short shifts where I drive to different clients all day, giving me many breaks throughout the day to spend time with the pets! I am a very neat and righty person. As I work with elderly patients, I am not afraid of bacteria or most things! I believe I am trustworthy for pet sitting as I have extensive experience in caring for humans.
“Abigail is attentive, warm and friendly. She asked the right questions about Ripley, our 11 year old Shichon, and our home where she will home sit. Ripley is very cautious and over protective. But when she met Abigail for the first time, she immediately warmed up to her. We will rebook with Abigail again!”

“Your pets and home are in excellent hands with Elisabeth! We had to leave home for 3 days under stressful circumstances, and we're so thankful Elisabeth agreed to housesit and watch our 2 dogs. We had a meet & greet and were impressed with her thoroughness in making sure she understood the dogs' routines. We received pictures and updates regularly, and we truly appreciated Elisabeth's communication - we never felt a moment of worry about the dogs while we were gone. We highly recommend Elisabeth for your house & pet sitting needs!”

Pet parents share their Rover experiences - Harrisonburg
Lydia’s absolutely amazing! From the moment we met in person, we knew she’d be perfect to house sit our forever fur baby, Ripley, who is a senior Shichon. Lydia took care of her like she was her own. We also loved the regular photos and videos she sent to keep us updated daily. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful person, Lydia!

Annalise was a great caretaker to our large family of animals while we were away! She was so enthusiastic and kind with our cats and chickens. I felt reassured knowing she was with them, and I loved that she sent us photos and updates during her sit. She is very honest and trustworthy. Thank you Annalise!!!
Kalysta did a great job with our 3 pups! She was responsive and sent us a photo and a video. She left the house clean and ran the laundry and did the dishes. So thankful for all she did to make our fur babies comfortable, fed, and played with while we were away! We will be happy to have Kalysta help us in the future!

FAQs for House Sitting - Harrisonburg
Frequently asked questions about Rover
The average cost for House Sitting in Harrisonburg on Rover is $38.85 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.
Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .
As of July 2026, there are 243 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Harrisonburg. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Harrisonburg walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Harrisonburg maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Harrisonburg choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Harrisonburg. On Rover:
- 100% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
