Ashley and Bob were great with my 10 year old, nervous & quirky pup! They stayed at the house with her for 3 days and 3 nights and during that time, sent frequent updates and pictures. I was so grateful for their communication and care of my dog.

Alyssa is great! My pets and home were well cared for. My dog gets pretty anxious when I go out of town but he seemed very calm and relaxed when I came back. He seemed like he had a great time with Alyssa!

Sally is amazing! She took great care of our dog and two cats - she clearly loves animals. Additionally, she did a wonderful job looking after our home. She left everything looking tidy, and went the extra mile by washing sheets and towels before she left. She also left good notes about how it all went. She made the weekend easy and stress free! And she sent wonderful photos, too. This was our first time having her in our home and I would have her back in a second. A+ petsitter!

This is the second time Sophie has cared for our two cats, and she’s been wonderful each time. She gives them so much love and playtime, and keeps us updated regularly, which we really appreciate. It’s such a comfort knowing they’re in good hands while we’re away. They were happy and content when we got back.

Elisha did a wonderful job watching my shy pup and two kitties while we were gone for an evening. Although my dog is rather nervous around strangers, my pup ended up sleeping with Elisha during a storm. It gave me great comfort to know my animals were being looked after during the storm and while we were away. Looking forward to having her watch my pets again next week!! Thanks for everything, Elisha!

Jessica was great! Very communicative and knowledgable about dogs, especially doodles! We got daily pictures of Murph. It was a hot weekend so Jessica was kind enough to get up early and get Murph out and walk before it got too hot.

Brenna was an amazing pet sitter for us. We have two dogs, both seniors, and one with significant health issues. It is always hard to leave him but had our son's wedding in Canada to attend. Brenna sent constant updates and photos to ease our mind while away. They were very well cared for and loved. I would use Brenna again in a heart beat!

Emily was so great with our senior dog Willow! She house sat her for the weekend and did a fantastic job. She communicated clearly about everything, sent photos, and most importantly was able to give Willow the twice daily insulin shots she needs. I highly recommend working with Emily!

About: Hi! My name is Andrea. I have lived in the Hudson Valley for almost 4 years now, and have been working in the area off and on since 2014. I live with my partner, Mike, and precious pup Kona. I have always lived with dogs. And recently, have been thinking about getting a cat! I am an Occupational Therapist in a school district full time and love to farm and bicycle during my off time. I’ve done house sitting and dog sitting previously and enjoyed the work. I have my own vehicle and am used to commuting around the Hudson Valley for work and for fun. I wanted to get back into dog sitting and pet sitting to assist in getting a new car and to get to spend time with pets! I have always been obsessed with dogs! I show that through meeting as many as I can when out in the community :). I am active person, so long walks and playing is something I can provide. I am open to any requests you might have and am great at keeping in touch with pet parents. I can always be available through text, call, or email. I’m so excited to meet you and your lovely pets!! I have a full time job, so weekends are my only availability. However, I am open to discuss any special circumstances! I might potentially be more available on a long weekend, when I am off from my school based job. I would want to care for your pets as you would or how you would want. I am great with a schedule and specific requests.

About: I’ve had both professional and personal experience taking care of dogs for years! My number one concern when watching someone’s furry family member is safety/making sure needs are met and everything after that is playtime and adventuring! Pet care is already part of my daily routine because I have my own dog named Stella who is an extremely active 5 year old dog (who constantly needs to be exercised). I work part time and am home in the mornings and afternoon. Our dog goes out every few hours on a leash in our community or to the fenced in dog park we have here at the property. I have no problem going to the lake or hiking with your fur baby because it’s one of my dogs favorite activity. If your dog needs to be crated or walked alone that is something I can accommodate as well.

About: I have two chocolate labs at home. I have cared for these dogs for 8+ years, and I have also dog-sat plenty of my neighbors', community members', friends', and relatives’ dogs over the years. I love to adventure with my dogs, but I can accommodate whatever adventure means for each dog, based on ability and the owner's desire. Also, I have done training with my oldest dog, have experience giving medication upon the owner's instructions, and have sat with quite sick dogs (my attentiveness to needs in this department is high). Overall, excited to sit for you! And let me know if you have further questions for me! I’m currently working part-time, so I have plenty of time to devote to your pups! I’m available for watching on both weekends and weekdays when you need my help! I will have work throughout the week, but I can pick up times to watch as my schedule is flexible. I spend a lot of time with my dogs when they go outside, and I walk/run them every day. I can easily crate your dog if needed. I also have experience ensuring owners’ dogs receive their medications and the correct dosages. Overall, I can adjust to all your pup’s needs!

We had such a wonderful experience with Katherine caring for our two cats. From the very beginning, she was incredibly communicative, thoughtful, and reliable. She kept us updated consistently with messages and photos, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. It’s clear she’s both experienced and genuinely caring - our cats felt comfortable with her right away. She was attentive to their routines and gave them lots of playtime and love. We came home to two very happy, relaxed cats and a house that was just as we left it. We felt confident the entire time that they were in safe, capable hands. We wouldn’t hesitate to book her again and would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a great sitter!

Hannah did an amazing job pet/house sitting with my dog while I was gone for almost two weeks. My dog banjo is very nervous around strangers and was hesitant when she first came over. But Hannah was so patient and calm with banjo and after a short time he was in love and totally happy. She gave daily updates and sent lots of pictures. She even offered to take care of my house plants when she noticed they needed water! I will definitely be reaching out to her in the future the next time I am out of town. 10/10 would definitely recommend!

FAQs for House Sitting - Ghent

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Ghent on Rover is $58.28 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 471 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ghent. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ghent walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ghent maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ghent choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ghent. On Rover:

  • 98% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
