Casey was great at communicating all the way from when we were looking for someone to pet sit all the way through her stay. She would send us pictures of the kitty crew. 😺 She stayed the night at our home while we were away. Would definitely use Casey again!

Callie is the BEST pup sitter! She listened to us describe Milo's personality and our expectations. She followed our requests to the letter. She sent a precious picture of Milo sound asleep on her lap. He was such a happy puppy when we arrived home, but wasn't whining or crying. He had clearly been well cared for!! We will definitely call on Callie again, and again!! We highly recommend her!!

Julie was amazing! We are new to using this site and were very apprehensive about who we chose to house & pet sit for us. We couldn’t have gotten luckier choosing Julie. She provided very reliable & frequent updates and followed our instructions. It was so great to have peace of mind leaving our babies in her care!

About: I have over 6 years of experience with professional in-home pet care, along with a lifetime of caring for my own dogs. I am also certified through the PPCA! I understand how important it is to give your pets the same love and attention I give my own! I truly enjoy spending time with pets, whether that’s playtime, walks, or just quiet companionship. My goal is to be a little part of your family and provide that peace of mind while you are away! Pet care is my full time job! My husband is home for my fur babies every night and morning if I need to be at overnights. And I make sure I have time to check in on my babies during the day if have a full day! When caring for pets, whether in my home or a client’s home, I focus on keeping them comfortable, safe, and happy by following their normal routines as closely as possible. I provide plenty of attention through walks, playtime, and companionship, always practicing proper leash etiquette and respecting feeding or medication instructions. I create a calm, caring environment where pets feel secure, whether they’re playful, need a little extra patience, or are in delicate stages of life, so owners can have peace of mind knowing their pets are well cared for.

About: I’ve always had an abundance of dogs and cats all throughout my life. I’ve always had large breed dogs, but I am no stranger to small breeds as well! I’ve had puppies and senior dogs, so I have experience kind of all across the board. I have four kittens that I raised and bottle fed, as well as senior cats. I have been pet sitting for family and friends since I was 13. I also have experience as a veterinary technician! I am comfortable administering medication if your pet needs it. I will love your pets like they’re my own, and I am very accommodating to your schedule! I am also open to horse care as well! I do not have horses of my own, but I have a few clients that I feed for, so equine care could be discussed if needed 😊 I am starting nursing school in August, but until then I am completely free to take care of your pets. Once I start school, my schedule will change slightly, but I will still be available! I, unfortunately, cannot offer boarding, but I am more than happy to offer house sitting, overnight care, and drop in visits during the day as needed. Whatever your pet needs, I am willing to do it! I can stick to a strict feeding and medication schedule if needed. I will play with your pets, or just have a lazy day if couch potato is more their style! If your pets go out at certain times, get crated, or have to be separated for feeding, I can do it. If your pet is a bit skittish with new people, I will take the time to have them get comfortable with me and avoid stressing them out in an already stressful situation. They will be in great hands 🩷

About: I have been in love with animals since I was little. I grew up on a farm with horses, cows, a sheep, dogs and cats. I've had 9 rescue dogs throughout my life, as well as 8 niece and nephew pups and countless friends' dogs I've cared for and loved. I have also volunteered at shelters and wildlife rescues, and I've even camel sat! I have experience working with and caring for different breeds, sizes, energy levels, and temperaments and have partnered with trainers to help dogs with work through anxiety, over-stimulation, and reactivity issues. I have also cared for special needs dogs and senior dogs who need meds, diapers, traction devices, slings, and extra attention. Once I get to know a pup, I am very attuned to their behavior/mood/signs and am able to help them feel cared for and safe. I'm currently working part time, so my availability is very wide open. I'm free for walks and play time during the day or overnight stays with your pup in your home if you have a work trip or vacation. Is your dog an escape artist? I've had one of those, so I can bring a heavy wooden gate to block off doors or other areas of the house as needed. Other than that, I will treat your pet with the same care and attention I give my own dogs, and considering that my friends have said they would like to be reincarnated as one of my dogs....

Kelly was absolutely amazing! I have a senior dog who requires a lot of attention and is definitely very spoiled, and she fit right in and took exceptional care of him. It gave me so much peace of mind knowing he was in such good hands. She kept me updated daily and sent pictures, which truly brought me comfort while I was away. Not only did she care for my dog, but she also looked after my parrot and my home. She went above and beyond bringing in the mail, taking care of the pool, and handling every detail I asked of her without hesitation. Kelly is reliable, thoughtful, and truly goes the extra mile. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone trustworthy and caring. I will definitely be using her again!

Angela, is very professional and very good with dogs. I felt totally comfortable leaving my doggies (one who has health problems) with her. She updated me several times during the day, and assured me the boys had every need met. She didn't push them - but responded well to their missing mom and other quirks. Thank you Angela!

About: I have taken care of animals from a young age, we have always had family pets from dogs to cats, lizards, fish, rescues etc. and my grandparents had farm animals like horses pigs, chickens and goats that I was around from a young age also. I have always cared for our family pets as well as neighbors, friends, and family throughout the years. I typically house sit when watching the animals also and can take care of things like collecting mail and packages, etc. I currently work part time form home so I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule to care for animals. I also enjoy going outside so don't mind taking dogs on walks etc. I have a 1 acre fenced in backyard with lots of grass and trees for animals to play. I also have an outdoor enclosed fence about 8x10 that I can use to separate dogs if needed. And I have about a 5x8 fully enclosed outdoor catio as well. I have plenty of space inside the home to let animals rest as well as a garage if it is too hot during the day.

About: I have 3 dogs and one cat of my own! I’ve had two of the dogs since they were puppies, and my cat since he was a kitten. I’ve also pet sit for my neighbors many times! My three dogs are all chihuahuas, but i’ve had experience with bigger dogs too. I am currently working part time, but I’m planning on going full time with pet sitting! Once summer is over I will be going to school but early in the morning, from around 8 to 12. So I will have plenty of time to take care of your pets ! I will not bring your pets to my own home, because my dogs are not very friendly to other pets. I will be able to go to your home and take care of your pet(s) there!

FAQs for House Sitting - Decatur

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Decatur on Rover is $33.3 per night (as of August 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of August 2026, there are 985 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Decatur. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Decatur walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Decatur maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Decatur choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Decatur. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 99% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 97% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
