We are incredibly grateful we found Erica to watch our dog while we were on vacation. She was responsive, accommodating, and very sweet! We had only adopted our dog two months prior and were anxious to leave him, but her caring nature made us feel at ease and we knew he would be in excellent hands. She was flexible with staying at our home and sent us daily photos so we felt included in his day. She even brought her dog over to play, which our dog loved, and we loved watching the videos of them playing! She left our home exactly how we left it and was very tidy. We will absolutely be using Erica again for our pet sitting needs, she was wonderful!

About: While you're away, rest assured that your dog and home is in excellent hands. You'll receive photos and updates, and your pet will enjoy walks, fresh water, meals, belly rubs, playtime, and more. No stress for you, and no stress for your furry friend, who will continue their routine as usual. I would love to meet you and your dog, get to know their environment, and see if we're a good fit. I have lifelong experience with dogs, including my 16-year companion, Jack, now gone, always in my heart... I understand the importance of peace of mind when traveling, knowing your pet is happy and well cared for. A happy pup means a happy owner, and peace of mind is priceless. I work from home... and I create my schedule based on needs and have flexibility throughout the day... it is a no-brainer to do this. I only provide drop-in visits and house sits... for your convenience and that of your dog or cat. Peace of mind for you, and your fur baby.

About: I grew up in the woods surrounded by a constant menagerie of beloved animals, from kittens and hamsters and goldfish to an energetic black lab and her tumbling litter of puppies, to parakeets and cockatiels and the wild baby hawks my mother rescued. Though I never had a snake growing up, I lived with two ball pythons in college and learned about reptiles petsitting for iguanas. Because I travel regularly, I’m not in a position to have pets of my own, and so petsitting is not only a way to earn extra income, but also to fulfill my longing to connect with animals. Life is better with creature friends! I’ve been petsitting for 21 years, and I have experience with a wide variety of animal, both long- and short-term stays, and with boarding cats, dogs, and snakes at my home for weeks at a time. I’ve provided long-term care for kitties and pooches who need diabetes injections twice a day, and I’m no stranger to following *very specific protocols* to get an aged friend to take their daily pills. I’ve cared for nervous nellies and pandemonius puppies and cats who need to chase lots of things in order to stay sane. I enjoy learning your pets’ favorite games to play, and I’m also experienced with supporting any training and boundaries you’re working on with them. I understand that when I’m petsitting, it’s like nannying children (which I’ve also done for over a decade!) I’m committed to providing your pets with safety and care, as well as showing them love, energy, and attention while helping them navigate what it’s like to miss their favorite human. I treat petsitting as a great responsibility, not only regarding practical logistics, but also for your pets’ enrichment and quality of life! I work primarily as a grant writer and non-profit consultant, and so I have a flexible daily schedule. I often work from home, which means I’m able to spend time with your pets throughout the day! I love walking pets and giving them (and me!) exercise, and I’m able to do so as often as your pet requires. I’m a professional musician and I have performances from time to time in the evenings or brunch time, but I’m able to plan my schedule around your pets’ needs. Since I’m flexible with time, I’m not overwhelmed by complex feeding schedules or rituals. I love the psychological richness of caring for new and different types of animals, and I’m a quick study to learn new protocols. I’m happy to learn your pets’ rhythms, and match their routines as closely as possible while I’m with them. I have many years of experience with overnight gigs in other people’s homes, and I deeply respect the responsibility of caring for someone else’s space. Since I’ve been petsitting for so long, I’m very familiar with keeping a small footprint and cleaning up thoroughly after myself. I also have experience caring for plants and other home maintenance needs while petsitting, anything that will put your mind at ease while you travel.

Bobbi Jo was AMAZING. We needed a sitter last minute for our two dogs during our wedding - we wanted them to be there, but didn’t want to leave them alone when we were getting ready, dancing, etc. When she arrived I immediately felt comfortable leaving the pups with her, so I could focus on everything else. She came midday Saturday and stayed until after our wedding; she was comfortable hanging out with us while we got ready, and just making sure the dogs were taken care of. She walked them around the grounds and kept them within arms reach, if necessary, throughout the reception. And then fed them and watched TV with them as it got dark. Her presence allowed us to really enjoy our day! We’re so thankful.

About: I’ve had pets my entire life, whether it be dogs, cats, or chickens. I’ve been the go-to sitter in my neighborhood for the past several years, providing boarding, overnight care, and potty breaks. I have experience dealing with all kinds of pets and am frequently called to sit for one dog that is unable to tolerate anyone but myself and his owners in his home. I strive to make every visit something your little family members look forward to as the highlight of their day. I am currently a full-time student commuting between my home and Ithaca college. With only a few classes per day and access to a car, I am available to check on your pets several times throughout the day and provide overnight care every weekday. I have experience caring for all types of pets overnight, whether they’re one for nighttime zoomies or nervous nightmares. I’m prepared to accommodate your pets with anything they need to make their time with me enjoyable. During the day, I will be able to provide long walks, frequent playtimes, and transport to the dog park or any other fenced in areas, if that’s what your pet likes most.

We couldn’t be happier with the care Jessica provides for our dog, Peppa! She has watched Peppa three different times, and each experience has been exceptional. Jessica’s communication is outstanding—she lets us know ahead of time when she’s coming, notifies us when she arrives, and sends a message when she’s leaving. We also love receiving daily photos and updates, which gives us so much peace of mind while we’re away. Every time we return home, it’s obvious that Peppa has been happy, comfortable, and very well cared for. Jessica also takes wonderful care of our home, treating it with the same respect and attention she gives Peppa. Knowing we can completely count on Jessica allows us to truly relax and enjoy our vacations without worrying. We highly recommend her to anyone looking for a reliable, caring, and trustworthy pet sitter!

Tesse stayed with my three dogs while I was away for 4 days. After the original meet and greet I felt quite comfortable with how the kids interacted with her. It was subzero weather conditions a few days so walks were impossible, but she had the convenience of quick potty breaks out in the yard where I had made some trails. She sent amazing photos throughout her stay and communicated as needed. I would rebook Tesse in a heartbeat should the need arise again.

FAQs for House Sitting - Cortland West

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 369 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Cortland West. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Cortland West walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Cortland West maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Cortland West choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Cortland West. On Rover:

  • 96% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
