“We had a great experience with Kelly and our 3 dogs. Kelly goes above and beyond in her service! She showed up on time and has a very positive attitude. It’s nice that she has daytime availability. I would use Kelly again- she did a great job!”

“Serenity has cared for our Poppy twice now, and Poppy loves her. I feel very comfortable leaving her in Serenity’s care. Serenity is kind and lovely - a delight to have her in our home! We hope to have her back soon!”

“Dawn was great with our furbabies! She made sure to keep us updated with photos and messages throughout our time away. We did not have to worry that they were not being properly cared for while gone.”

“Blair is amazing with ourpuppies and our cats. She loves animals, and it shows in the way that she cares for them. She also takes wonderful care of our home. I highly recommend her.”

“Emily was kind, thorough, attentive to both mine and Kody's needs. Thanks Emily. Starting out, Kody wasn't sure of Emily, even after a meet and greet a month prior. Emily was persistent and able to connect with Kody. I feel like Kody was even walking on the leash better when I returned. Thanks Emily!!!”

“I can’t recommend Alex enough. She is a wonderful sitter. I had an emergency where my flight was bumped to the next day - Alex was there for our cat and dog. I’ve rebooked her several times and will continue to do so. She takes care of our home, is very communicative and our pets love her.”

“Michayla took care of my two cats for a week while I was on vacation, and she did a wonderful job! She is very caring and attentive, and she made sure to send me pictures and updates throughout the week which really put my mind at ease. I will definitely book her again in the future.”

About: Hello! I’m Ashlyn and I have been raised with at least three dogs all my life, from Yorkies to Great Danes I have owned them all! I currently own two dogs, and have been dog sitting as long as I can remember. I am a full time teacher, so my dogs are put outside and fed at about 7am, put outside again at 3pm, walked and or played with until 5pm, dinner and put outside at 6pm, and outside again at 9pm. On weekends, they follow a very similar routine, with more breaks outside and longer walks. I am comfortable with giving dogs medication, and I am overly cautious with pretty much everything such chewing on furniture, other dogs, etc. The dog being safe and the clients comfort is my top priority.

About: Hi! I’m Sydney, and I love working with animals. I’m responsible, caring, and patient, and I always make sure pets feel safe, comfortable, and loved while they’re in my care. I’ve had hands-on experience sitting, volunteering and shadowing in animal care settings, which helped me learn more about pet behavior, handling, and daily care. I’m comfortable following routines, paying attention to details, and giving each pet the care they need. I do work part-time so I will have some availability throughout the week and on weekends, making it easy to provide check-ins, feeding, playtime, and lots of care for your pets. I treat every pet like my own and always follow the owner’s instructions. Whether in my home or yours, I’ll provide a safe, clean, and calm environment with plenty of attention, exercise, and care.
“Brianna was so incredibly attentive to both our cat and dogs needs. Very communicative and kept us up to date on how they were doing throughout the weekend. Would absolutely recommend Brianna to anyone who is looking for a pet sitter!”

About: I’ve always grown up with pets around, specifically dogs. Through my lifetime I’ve taken care of dogs with separation anxiety, older dogs, and very active dogs too. I believe that every dog has a special personality and they all deserve personalized care. So I will take in special care request that you know of, and also observe the dog so I care and play with it in the best way! I’m excited to work with you and your furry friends :) I have a pretty open schedule and availability! I can board on a Saturday night to Sunday morning, but I’m not available Sunday nights to Monday morning! I have a dog park in my apartment and share a dog with my sister so your furry friend will have some company. I also have some complement toys, treats, and a spare cage if needed!

“Jacqueline was great! She provided updates and pictures on a daily basis of my dog. I could tell he was having a fantastic time with her and was being loved on. He was ridiculously excited to see her again when she stopped by the next day to pick up something she forget.”

About: I’ve had the privilege of growing up with dogs since the age of 10. I’ve never lived in a house without 1-2 dogs. It’s always been a priority of mine to take my dog on at least a 2 mile walk a day if not longer. I have pet sat for families in the past and fostered a puppy in college. Come July I start school T,TH,F from roughly 9-4:30. Otherwise I will be working my PRN job whenever they are in need and I’m available. Over the past 12-14 years I’ve grown up with dogs living in my household. I currently have one medium sized dog, Nala, whom I recused about 5 years ago. She’s a velcro dog and the sweetest they come. She was 5 months old when we adopted her and it’s always been a priority to enforce socialization from day one. When she was almost the age of 2 we bought a German Shepard, Bo, at 8weeks old who she has grown up and lived with over the past 4 years. Regardless of who they are around we make sure to properly introduce everyone who is welcomed into their/our space. After moving to Lexington Nala moved with me as Bo stayed back home. I have a fenced in backyard with plenty of space to run and play. Nala likes to keep to herself most of the time, but highly enjoys walks, treats, and toys.
“Katie is an incredible petsitter!!! She managed taking care of my 3 pets, including one who goes to daycare 3 times a week. My husband and I went on a week-long vacation and I didn’t have to worry about our pets or home a single time. Katie sent me daily updates, which was awesome, and took the time to meet with us beforehand. Seriously can’t recommend her enough!”

About: I’ve cared for various dog and cat breeds/personalities throughout my life, I love them all! I have some experience administering medications to dogs and cats. I am patient and consistent when it comes to following rules or a routine. I will treat your babies like they’re my own! My daily routine includes caring for my 3 kitties by playing with, cleaning up after, and feeding/watering them; I’d love to do the same for your pets! I’m familiar with special diets and administering various forms of medication, as my cats and other pets I sit, are on medicated diets and take additional medications. I currently have open availability, save a few social obligations over then next two months, but I’m flexible and communicative so we can always discuss timelines! I treat other’s spaces with care and consideration, I like to be respectful above anything else. I love all animals and treat the pets I sit with the same care I do my own.
“Julie was so helpful to us! She took care of our elderly dog and skittish kitty with as much love as we would have. She provided regular updates and photos and even did light housekeeping for us-that we didn’t expect at all!! I highly recommend Julie for your pets and home.”

About: Since about 12 years old my neighborhood friends would hire me to dogs sit while their family went out of town. I’ve always had a huge amount of love for animals so I never had any problem doing so. Fast forward 5 years later my parents began breeding French bulldogs. My siblings and I had a lot of responsibility on our hands are far as feeding them, bathing, keeping them groomed, making sure they’re up to date on shots and etc. I currently work from home so that’s enables me with plenty of free time to walk, play with/take to the park, and feed your lovely animals! In my home my dog is crate trained. I do have a crate for my puppy for if friends come over and are not comfortable with him I can put him away for a few hours. I prefer all animals be crate trained , but only go to the crate if they would like to do so. I do not mind dogs walking around my house. I have a puppy of my own so every morning I get up and take my puppy on a 30 minute walk as well as every evening once I get home from work. I have an animal friendly house so I usually let pups/kittys run around the house as long as they’ve been fed and taken out for a potty break.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 1,209 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across California. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred California walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in California maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in California choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in California. On Rover:
- 97% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
