If you’re looking for an exceptional caregiver to look after your pets and your home, Bensha is truly outstanding. From our very first conversation, I felt completely at ease entrusting her with our home, our cats, and our dog, Boo. That peace of mind is priceless—and she exceeded every expectation. The entire experience was nothing short of incredible. Bensha went above and beyond in every possible way, caring for our pets with genuine love and attention, as if they were her own. She even handled administering medication with care and confidence, which meant so much to us while we were away. While we were out of the country, we were hit with a snowstorm, and Bensha and her partner stepped in without hesitation—her partner even took the time to snowblow our property. That level of thoughtfulness and dedication is rare. Bensha is not only reliable and professional, but also deeply compassionate. We came home to happy pets and a well-cared-for home, and we couldn’t be more grateful. I wholeheartedly recommend her—she is simply amazing. Tammy

Amanda helped me out with a last minute overnight house sit. She was a good communicator and good at following the instructions that were left for her. She walked the dogs and took pictures of the fur babies. She also gave my cat his medicine as he has diabetes. Thank you Amanda

Our German Shepherd is a needy dog! He is missing his long-time sitter, and as we were stuck for someone to watch him, see turned to Rover and found Lindsay. Lindsay rearranged her schedule and came on extremely short notice even though she had plans. Max warmed up to her immediately, and she was very knowledgeable and perceptive about his needs. Max was comfortable with Lindsay- she sent us updates, and we could see that he was having a great time! We like and trust Lindsay, and will definitely continue to use her!

About: I've been an animal lover my entire life and have spent hours volunteering at the TBDHS, along with pet sitting and walking my neighbour's dog! I have my own, high-energy dog (Ellie, husky-German shepherd mix) from Northern Critters in Need. Some activities that I do with my dog (and neighbour’s dogs) are hikes, bike rides, the park, and more. I'm used to large dogs pulling occasionally! I also have two cats (Trix and Roux), who are also rescues. Roux is the sweetest cat that flops when you pick her up (kind of like a ragdoll cat), and Trix will talk (meow) at you when she's ready for your attention. While volunteering at the TBDHS, I would do basic care (feeding, brushing, playtime, etc.) and take the dogs for walks and socialize with them until they found their forever homes! I love going for daily walks with my dogs or my neighbour's dogs! I'm available in the afternoon and evening primarily, but can make exceptions for morning and nighttime as well. Since having large and high-energy dogs, I am very used to an active lifestyle. When I take them on hikes, walks, and bike rides, I'm used to them pulling on the leash when they are overly excited. I can (usually) calm them down by patting their chest-area or continuing on our way if necessary.

We couldn't have asked for a better home/pet sitter. Our home was tidier than we left it. Felipe and his parents looked after Pax as if he were their own cherished pet. Pax got plenty of exercise playing with Filipe in our yard and we got photos and videos several times a day so we knew we could relax and enjoy our trip. Should we need a house/pet sitter again we will not hesitate to use Rover.com and Filipe again.

About: Hello, my name is Nicole, I recently graduated with a business degree, I grew up with 3 different dogs. I love running, I am very interpersonal. I find myself to be a genuine person. I am great with animals, I have trained my dogs in the past. Except for the one I grew up with because we got him when I was 1. I like to spend free time either doing crosswords or reading a book maybe watching a movie. Right now I work full time but I would like to work my way around it with this opportunity. I still walk my dogs as much as I can. I also have a huge travelling bug , I want to travel the world so badly.

About: We always had pets in our family since I was young and we were required to care for them. I have a calm demeanor which seems to calm pets quickly when I meet them which in turn gains their trust. After that I give them lots of love which bonds us! I am a full-time house/petsitter and therefore can put all of my energy into caring for pets and homes. In addition, I don’t have any other obligations. Before a sit is agreed, I will always request a video call or in person visit to get to know the pet owner(s) and hopefully also the pet. I ask as many questions as I can to determine if the pet and I would be a good fit. In addition I find out what, if any, special needs the pet has. With all of this information I am able to do up a plan for the care of the pet.

I 100% recommend Amanda to watch your babies. It was my first time leaving my three boys with anyone and had so much anxiety. She went above to make sure my mind was at ease, keeping in contact and sending pictures and videos of them. My Chihuahua who is not fond of new people, took to Amanda immediately, I couldn't believe it. She took very good care all of them and their different personalities/needs. Amanda is truly an animal whisperer. Thank you again for staying in my home, keeping it as tidy as I left it and loving my boys 💙💙💙

Leslie went over and beyond our expectation... She took great care of Lucy and treated her as if she were her own.... She took her for many walks and even groomed her... She kept in contact with pictures and texts while we were on vacation... We felt assured that Lucy was in good hands....The house was also well taken care of as we could hardly tell she had been there...

This is an easy 5 star review. Sam took care of our boys so well. Easy and quick communication, regular updates as to how they were doing, and the place was left very clean. We came home and our dog/cat barely cared that we were back. They were very relaxed after a weekend of Sam's care and clearly received ample love and attention. We will rebook her whenever we can!

FAQs for House Sitting - Thunder Bay

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost for House Sitting in Thunder Bay on Rover is $55.5 per night (as of July 2026). However, all sitters set their own rates based on experience, location, and availability.

Rover makes budgeting the cost of House Sitting easy. As long as your dates and pet profiles are correct, the price you see before you book is the same price you pay for House Sitting. For more information on service fees, click here .

As of July 2026, there are 22 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Thunder Bay. Enter your postal code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Thunder Bay maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Garbage & recycling: Taking garbage bins to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Thunder Bay walking routes, the location of your favourite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Thunder Bay choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

You can find what you need to review a sitter on their profile before booking with them. Each sitters’s profile on Rover shows verified reviews, identity check, and ratings to give a glimpse of how their previous visits went. You can also use the Meet & Greet to walk through your home, identifying which areas, like your bedroom, are off-limits or not. Requesting details of your home security through the app can also be a good way to have your sitter keep you updated about your home.

If you have security cameras or doorbells, Rover asks that you disclose them to sitters before you book.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they do not have any disqualifying offences.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Emergency support is available by phone or email in English 24/7. When an incident occurs, we recommend that sitters contact our Trust & Safety team immediately so that they can connect your sitter with a veterinary professional or offer other resources to help.

If a sitter needs to cancel at the last minute, Rover’s reservation protection means Rover Support will work with you to find a suitable replacement as quickly as possible.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
