“Kayla was a great sitter for our pup. We needed help last minute, we did a meet and greet and then our dog stayed for a long weekend. She came home exhausted from all the fun and play. She was well taken care of. Would definitely recommend Kayla for your sitting needs.”

“Rose was such a blessing! We’re from out of town and needed an unexpected sitter last minute and she was there to save the day! Sent updates throughout the day and took super good care of our old pup! Would absolutely recommend her care to anybody!”

“Wendalyn and Keith took such good care of our girl Gracie! They sent multiple pictures and updates a day during our time away! I would definitely use their sitting services again and highly recommend them to others!”
“From the moment I met Barbara I knew my pet would be safe with her. Skai took to her right away. Her home was peaceful and welcoming. Barbara kept me updated- assuring me our dog was doing well. I will definitely use her services again.”

“We were nervous for our first time having a dog sitter for our pup, but Christina was great! Very communicative and our little guy was well taken care of. I’d recommend her for sure.”

“First time using Rover & leaving our precious pup with someone else. We are so glad we found Carey! She helped us feel at ease and sent lots of updates & pictures! Her dog is very sweet & the 2 of them got along without issues. He was well cared for & loved. He also got a lot of exercise! So much better than being locked up in a kennel! We hope she can watch him many more times in the future!”

“Kelsey took great care of my 2 dogs this week! (1 pitbull &1 frenchie) it was 5 nights , they played with them and kept them fed and happy the whole time and updated me randomly and also responded quickly if I had any questions about my babies!! She does have children which has previously been an anxiety point for my pit bull.. the kids were so friendly and patient and he played well with them all weekend! Overall really happy with the turnout and that he was able to play with children in a controlled environment! Will definitely use her if we go out of town again!🩷”

“Michelle was great with our pups. Stella and Rocky got along great and our dogs have been sleeping since we picked them back up! We look forward to using Michelle again in the future”
“Shannon and Robert were absolutely wonderful! Their family is so kind, and their children were great with Henry. He settled in right away and honestly didn’t seem like he wanted to leave when we picked him up. They kept him active all day, so he came home happy and completely worn out (in the best way!). We’d absolutely trust them with Henry again and look forward to booking with them in the future.”

“Samantha was wonderful! So friendly, communicative, and clearly took great care of our dog, Finn. He’s 11 and can be a little finicky when staying somewhere new, and she even made him fresh eggs (his favorite breakfast topper) to encourage him to eat. She sent lots of photos, kept us updated, and made sure he got plenty of exercise and attention. We’re so happy to have found a great local sitter and hope she can watch him again!”

“Ralph was great! He’s friendly and fun and you can tell he genuinely loves dogs. Howie spent 5 nights at his house. Ralph always kept us updated and sent lots photos all day every day. Howie was spoiled with a giant backyard, lots of cuddling, treats and other pups to play with. We will definitely use Ralph again!!”

“Megan and her family are amazing!! I was apprehensive leaving town and using a new sitter for our 2 pups, but our usual person was booked. So happy to have found Megan! From the first text, to the meet and greet, to the pickup on the last day, everything was awesome! Our girls were very happy and obviously so spoiled with love and attention ❤️ We received daily photos, updates, and very quick responses to any questions asked. Will definitely book with Megan again and can't recommend her enough!!”

About: I’ve had three dogs of my own over the years, so I know firsthand that dogs aren’t just pets—they’re family. I truly enjoy getting to know each dog’s unique personality, whether they’re energetic and playful, cuddly and calm, or a little shy at first. When your dog is in my care, my goal is to make them feel safe, comfortable, loved, and right at home. I’m attentive to their routines, love giving plenty of playtime and affection, and will treat your pup with the same care I would give my own. You can feel confident knowing your dog is getting both loving attention and dependable care while you’re away. Would love if dog(s) are getting treated regularly for fleas/ticks especially if coming into my home. I currently stay at home all day during the week so I would be able to give full attention to your pets needs. If they’re staying over the weekend I would accommodate my plans to be home while they’re in my care. Your pet(s) would have free range in my first floor apartment townhouse. There is a communal dog park that is walking distance I would take them to only if no one else was there. We have a private community that I would take them on walks throughout the day.
About: Dogs have always been a significant part of my life. I've gone through agility class, traveled around with them, and performed medical care as needed I retired about a year ago from the healthcare field. I am frequently available to care for dogs and cats in many situations and time frames I live in a complex with a doggie walk and a fenced in area. I can care for your pet at your home as well, and can walk and exercise them.

“Derek took great care of Our Lucy, he provided daily updates and pics of her. Lucy had a great time and was well cared for while we were gone! I highly recommend Derek to care for your pets. Pam & Jeff”

“Julie took such wonderful care of our VERY senior dog. She sent several photos and videos each day, along with a daily update on how Ted was doing. We will 100% use Julie again in the future.”

“My dogs, Ozzie & Elvie, were well taken care of and spoiled by Julie & her son. They also enjoyed hanging out with their dog, Abby and being outside taking walks. Julie was great with updates and photos every day. We will definitely be back!”

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
96% of sitters in Birmingham can provide daily exercise during dog boarding stays. Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, this may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Birmingham home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Birmingham.
Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Birmingham. On Rover:
- 90% of sitters can help with special care needs

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
You and your Birmingham sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in OH ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
Adding another pup to the pack? Most sitters and walkers offer a reduced rate for additional dogs. You’ll find these exact rates listed under the "Services" tab on any sitter's profile. Since every dog is unique, final pricing may vary depending on the level of care required.
