“John was terrific! He is friendly, highly reliable and an excellent communicator. We felt confident our pooch was in good hands and will use John’s services again for sure!”

“Mandy took care of our two cats for a week while we were away on vacation. She was great! She showed up morning and evening each day to feed, water, scoop, and play with our babies. She spent at least 30 minutes per visit and sent a detailed report (including 6–12 pictures) afterward. We looked forward twice a day to seeing the latest “action photos” of our beloved kitties. Mandy also gave each cat their medication every day (one cat needed hairball paste, the other cat needed ointment applied to a head sore). Moreover, Mandy visited our house several weeks before our departure to meet us and to be introduced to our babies. (She did this at her own expense.) We will definitely use her in the future when the need arises.”

“Jerry was a fantastic dog sitter! He was reliable and kept me updated with every visit, sending pictures and videos so I could see how my dogs were doing. It gave me such peace of mind while I was away knowing they were being well cared for. I really appreciated his communication and would definitely recommend Jerry to anyone looking for a trustworthy and attentive pet sitter. We will absolutely use him again!”

“Stephanie did a truly excellent job with my dog Odie. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a top notch pet sitter. She is awesome and thoughtful and smart and Odie had a fun weekend staycation.”

“I want to thank Rose for being so wonderful and checking in on Grace while we were in town from Virginia and at a family wedding! We are so grateful to someone so kind and loving even for a short period of time. I would highly recommend Rose for anyone who is from out of town and needs someone reliable and trustworthy!”

“Alison was so kind in going out of her way to do a meet-and-greet with our kitties before we left! When we got home, everyone was happy and everything was tidy. We would definitely book Alison to watch our babies again!”

“Tracy was great! She looked in on our older cat and younger dog this past week. Our older cat has some health issues and Tracy reported on his eating/other habits to help keep us apprised of his situation. She also took our dog for a few walks, fed her and gave her some company. Tracy responded to texts quickly, is friendly and our pets seemed to be just fine with her! We’re so thrilled!”

About: I grew up with cats & dogs my whole life. I don’t currently have any now so I miss them. Thought this would be a nice way to have that in my life & also help busy people out in the process. Life is a roller coaster we need to help each other out & making some extra money is always great I can adjust my schedule for the most part. I like staying busy & having routine so I have no problem helping you with yours as you would like for your furry ones. I’m a routine person so no problem following yours to care for your pets needs while your busy. I will care for your furry one as you would while your away.
“Caterina was amazing! She took great care of my cat, Frankie, and was very attentive to everything he needed while I was away. I would definitely rebook her for any future times I'll be out of town.”

“Julia is GREAT! She took wonderful care of our 4 babies while we were away and gave thorough updates with lots of photos after each visit. Our pup can be very anxious when we’re gone but he looked so happy to be hanging out with her and didn’t seem stressed at all when we got back. One of the cats is very timid as well and after only a visit or two, he was coming out to greet her every time she stopped by!”

About: Your pet won't just be supervised—they will be completely folded into my daily routine, receiving constant affection, belly rubs, and inclusion in family life. My experience with animals isn't just a job; it’s a lifelong calling. For over a decade, I have cared for a diverse family of pets, mastering the art of reading their subtle body language and anticipating their needs. I understand that every dog has a unique personality—from the high-energy pup who needs an exhausting game of fetch to the quiet senior who wants a gentle hand on their head. My hands-on experience has taught me how to establish instant trust, calm anxious minds, and provide a nurturing environment where pets don't just stay, but truly thrive. As a work-from-home entrepreneur, my schedule is entirely my own—which means your pet is never an afterthought, but a central part of my day. Because I control my hours, I don’t leave for a 9-to-5. Instead, my workspace is shared with your pet, offering them a constant, comforting human presence that drastically reduces separation anxiety. My daily routine is intentionally built around natural breaks that perfectly mirror a dog's need for stimulation, affection, and rest. I transform my home into a peaceful, tail-wagging sanctuary where your pet is treated as an honored family member, not a guest. Because I work from home, my environment is calm, highly predictable, and entirely secure.
“Jamiah dropped by my apartment daily to take care of my two cats while I was on vacation, including feeding them and cleaning the litter boxes. Since cats get stressed in new environments, I really did not want to board them, so the house visits worked out great! Jamiah is super friendly and has cats of her own, so I knew I wouldn't have to worry leaving them. She took great care of the cats and sent lots of photos. I would definitely recommend Jamiah for pet-sitting!”

“Leo loves hanging out with leo. She is always prompt on communication and gives me brief updates about Leo. She also cleaned up our couch when Leo throwed up his food. I am glad that she is able to visit Leo regularly.”

“Thank you Lisa! To all looking for a Rover pet sitter. Lisa has watched Brooklyn several times now and each visit has been great. She really takes great care of my dog, Brooklyn. I highly recommend Lisa!”
About: I have two cats currently, and grew up with dogs! I am gentle and kind to pets of all kind and love being around them. I have managed general care for dogs including bathrooming, crating, feedings, etc. I have taken care of cats including cleaning litter, feedings, and managing medicine (insulin shot for diabetic cat). I am currently a teacher, with my schedule opening up for the summer! I'd love to feed, walk, and clean up after your pets this summer! I have two cats at home. I am a respectful visitor who maintains a clean environment for my pets, and will do the same for yours.
About: Hey everyone! My name is Holbert. I’ve grown up around dogs of all sizes, from Yorkies and Shih Tzus to Saint Bernards, and I’m just as happy spending time with cats too. I’m a law student, but outside of school I really enjoy being around animals, getting to know their personalities, and making sure they feel comfortable and cared for. I’m patient with shy or nervous pets, playful with the energetic ones, and I’ll probably send you way too many funny pictures while you’re gone. I’m also very respectful of your home and your pet’s routine, so you can feel comfortable knowing they’re in good hands 😊 My schedule is pretty structured during the week, with work on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 5 and classes on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 to 4. Fridays through the weekend, though, I have much more flexibility and can really dedicate my time to walks, drop ins, playtime, and hanging out with your pets. I also do my best to work pet care around my weekday schedule whenever possible, so your pet still gets the attention and consistency they need. Whether I’m caring for pets in my home or yours, I try to keep things as comfortable and familiar for them as possible. I follow, feeding schedules, walking routines, house, rules, and any special instructions you leave for me, also making sure they get plenty of attention, playtime, and affection. I’m patient with pets who need a little extra time to warm up, and I always pay attention to their personality and comfort level. In a client‘s home, I’m also very respectful of the space. I will always leave things clean and cared for, just as I found them, if not better.

Dog whisperer. Very upbeat, energetic. Provided details on visits and seems to love her job. Was always on time and stayed for the entire durations. Everything you’d want in a sitter for your pet. This was our first time using the service. We will definitely select her next time we need sitter services.

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
You and your sitter can agree on a care schedule that fits your pet’s routine and the sitter’s availability. Pet Sitting can be booked as a one-time or recurring drop-in visit. If you need overnight care or dog walks, you may also be able to book House Sitting or Dog Walking through Rover with the same sitter, provided they offer those services.
Before booking, confirm:
- the timing, length, and frequency of visits;
- the care instructions the sitter should follow;
- which parts of your pet’s usual routine should be prioritized;
- how often you would like to receive messages, photos, or other updates.
Not every sitter offers the same services, availability, or booking options. Review their profile and discuss the care you need through Rover before booking each service.
If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.
The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.
Many pet parents provide a spare key or arrange a lockbox. You can also exchange keys during the Meet & Greet and show your walker how to use digital fobs or personalized codes. It helps to arrange access to your home, from spare keys to concierge introductions, before pet care begins.
If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
A Meet & Greet is a casual meeting to vet potential sitters and communicate care needs for peace of mind before a booking begins. Only sitters who have never booked with you before can schedule a Meet & Greet on Rover; however, you are welcome to coordinate one in Rover messages with sitters you have previously booked. This can be helpful if you have a new pet or routine you want to go over with your sitter.
Meet & Greets can take place in person or virtually. If you are booking with a sitter for the first time, we recommend in-person Meet & Greets to get a clearer sense of how your sitter interacts with your pet or the new environment.
During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Meet & Greets are a great way to prepare your pet and sitter for longer stays or first-time bookings. Read our tips for your first .
sitters on Rover set their own , which you can find on their profile under their contact information. Sitters may set a same-day, one-, three-, or seven-day cancellation policy. Cancelling within your sitter’s cancellation policy qualifies you for a full refund.
Same-day cancellations for recurring services, which include walks, drop-ins, and day care, follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for pet boarding and house sitting, if you cancel after 12 pm on the applicable cancellation deadline, you’ll receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for any remaining days.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means you will get a full refund and our support team will work with you to find a replacement sitter.
