They even slept in way longer than they do at home, so you know they had a good time while there. We'll use Katherine again in the future, as everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves and Katherine kept us well informed complete with pictures.”

“Sarah was truly wonderful with our energetic Great Dane, and we will definitely be using her again. Our boy can be excitable and somewhat anxious, which didn’t seem to phase her at all. After sensing my own anxiety about leaving him somewhere new, she checked in frequently while we were away to let me know he was doing great. It was clear from the pictures and videos that our boy was getting lots of love and attention from the entire family, which made our vacation all the more enjoyable. She even took the initiative to wrap his leg when he begun licking at a sore. I would highly recommend Sarah.”

About: I have taken care of dogs for a long time. Since I was a young child. I am a dog lover, as my family has 3 dogs of our own, they are beagles. I enjoy spending time with dogs - petting them, walking them, and playing with them. I was formerly in law enforcement so you can count on me for safety. We have a fenced back yard. Our dogs love having friends over and our kids love dogs as well. There is almost always someone home to care for our dogs. I love to spend time with my family and with our dog. We also enjoy meeting other dogs, and making connections with the pet parents, also. For the safety of my children and pets, all first-time clients must complete a Meet & Greet at least 48 hours before a stay can be confirmed. I do not accept last-minute bookings without a prior visit. I have a large back yard that's fully fenced in. The fenced in back yard is around half an acre. We also have 3 dogs of our own, that we love and care for. I am a former law enforcement officer.

About: Growing up around dogs and caring for sibling's, neighbor's, and friend's dogs- I have always been around and caring for dogs. I thought it would be a fun way to continue loving on others' furry family members, offering them a safe and loving space to stay. I have raised all 3 of our dogs from puppies and currently have a very well behaved 13 year old maltipoo George, and a full of life (but on the shyer side) 1 1/2 year old Portuguese water dog Margot. They do great with other dogs. I am a stay at home mom with two kiddos who are both in school during the day. Besides going to the gym (2 hours at the most), I'm at home and able to be super present with your pup! I am an active person and love taking walks so your dog will be able to get energy out and will have a companion almost 24/7. I do have dog allergies in my home so I am limited to only taking in hypoallergenic dogs. Because I have a home with allergies I keep my home very clean and safe for everyone’s health benefit in my home. Both my dogs do great with other dogs. My porti, being on shyer side, can be skittish at first and then warms right up. They are both up to date on shots and vet visits. My Porti is crated at night and my senior maltipoo sleeps on the ground beside her so having another crated friend at night is easy to accommodate. If they aren't crated at night but well behaved, we can certainly discuss other accommodations as well! My senior dog will sleep anywhere I put him.

“Judith took very good care of our 10.5-year-old dog while we went on 3-day road trip. Judith is knowledgeable about many large breeds and observant of dog's individual needs. We did a meet-and-greet with her dogs and my dog prior which I appreciated. If you have any specific needs she will accommodate or let you know if she can accommodate. My dog has had surgery (2 ACL repairs) so we have to be mindful of his portion of feedings and limit running. It a bit hard to control his running and jumping especially when he sees a squirrel, so I requested that he spend 15-20 min outside during potty breaks rather than 30 -40 min outside, so he rests between breaks. Judith was able to accommodate. The next day he was up and moving around easily so he had a good amount of activity and not too much that he is too sore to move the next day. We will reach out to Judith for our next trip. Highly recommend.”

“Our puppy Rosie had a great time with Jeff and Lilia. They took such good care of her, taking her for walks every day, playing with her and even got her to eat her breakfast, which we can never do. They sent pictures and updates a couple of times a day, which being this was the first time we left her made us feel quite confident that we had made the right choice in choosing them. We would definitely use them again!”

Frequently asked questions about Rover

The average cost of Dog Boarding in Alton is $41 per night as of November 2026. Most bookings cost between $36 and $50 per night. On Rover, sitters set their own rates based on factors such as their experience, the length of care, the number of pets, and your pet’s specific needs. As long as your booking dates and pet profiles are accurate, the price shown before you confirm is the total, including any booking fee.

As of November 2026, there are 1,628 sitters on Rover offering Dog Boarding across Alton. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

If you would like updates while you’re away, you can discuss with your sitter how many or how frequent you’d like those updates to be. The Rover app allows sitters to send photos, videos, and messages about your pet, including how many pee or poop breaks occurred. You can message your sitter at any time through the app and our support team is available 24/7 by email or chat if you have concerns.

The personalized, in-home nature of pet care through Rover can mean more individual attention for your pet.

Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.

96% of sitters in Alton can provide daily exercise during dog boarding stays. Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, this may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.

During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Alton home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Alton.

Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Alton. On Rover:

  • 87% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 94% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 96% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.

You and your Alton sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in NC ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

Adding another pup to the pack? Most sitters and walkers offer a reduced rate for additional dogs. You’ll find these exact rates listed under the "Services" tab on any sitter's profile. Since every dog is unique, final pricing may vary depending on the level of care required.
