Megan stayed overnight with my two older dogs, one who is very nervous around new people. She was very patient when she met Maggie and it did not take long for her to calm down. The dogs were happy and my home was clean and tidy when I got home. Megan was very professional and I would definitely recommend her!

You will not find a better sitter than Ryan. He went above and beyond throughout the entire process. I’m telling you - I’ve NEVER experienced such incredible ‘customer service’. My pup fell in love with him and I knew from the moment I left she was in excellent hands. I can’t recommend him more highly. Would give 10 stars if I could.

Melissa was such a blessing! She took the best care of our sweet Lucy. I knew Lucy was comfortable and in great hands because she ate her food everyday and usually she skips days because she’s anxious when we’re gone. Melissa sent wonderful daily updates and photos, too.

About: I've taken care of all kinds of dogs since I was 10 years old. I have a Maltese, a Jack Russell, and a Pit Bull. All three of them are seniors, and I make sure they are comfortable and adjusting to aging. I am also well-versed in puppy care and have taken care of dogs of all ages, kept them entertained, and made sure they were happy. I am currently an online English tutor, so I will have plenty of time to take care of your babies. My weeks are structured, but I have flexibility. I make sure my pets are safely secured on their leashes before every walk. That they have what they need: water, treats, and doggie bags for cleanup. Making sure there are no electrical cords or anything else they could chew on. Double-checking they have food and water and are comfortable.

About: I am a dedicated and experienced pet caregiver who is passionate about providing animals with safe, dependable, and loving care. I have been caring for pets since I was 13 years old, beginning with volunteer experience at animal rescues and veterinary clinics. Over the years, I have continued developing my experience by caring for my own pets, whom I consider part of my family. I am comfortable providing a variety of services, including baths, nail trims, basic grooming, dog walking, and basic dog training. I understand that every pet has a different personality, routine, and set of needs, so I make it a priority to provide patient and personalized care. I currently work part-time while attending school full-time; however, much of my work is completed remotely. This gives me flexibility in my schedule and allows me to dedicate plenty of time and attention to caring for your pets while you are away or busy. When I take care of a pet I would like to know the availability and understand what their animal needs to get the job done I would like to have meet and greet with ur pets so I can be able to adapt especially when taking care of there needs.

About: I have been pet sitting dogs and cats since I was very young and am passionate about caring for and saving animals of all breeds! I am currently a college student who attends school 3-4 days a week. However this doesn’t not affect my pet care because I prioritize any potential clients and can balance work and life! I make sure to give lots of love, attention, cuddles, and play time with any animal of any size. I am big on treat giving!

About: For over 40 years I have loved and cared for my dogs and the dogs of family and friends. I see them as a part of the family. I would provide care, attention, play, treats (if allowed), and medication (if needed). My home has a fenced yard, pet beds, and toys. We live near a city park that circles a lake and near a dog park. I am happy to accommodate any special needs, diets, and/or instructions. I know the stress of finding the right pet sitter. Since I know how it is to leave my dogs home, I am happy to provide frequent updates while you are away. Your pets will be happy when you return, but they will also thank you for leaving them in my care.

Tim is awesome! I’ve used many sitters through Rover and Tim is the best! This is the 2nd time he has watched my 4 dogs and chickens at my house. He feeds them and spends a great deal of time with them. He also goes above and beyond by sweeping my floors and washing the bedding in my guest bedroom he slept in. It’s nice going on vacation and not having to worry. It’s also great coming home from vacation to happy dogs and a clean house.

I literally can’t say enough about Heather. I had to go to CA for a doctor’s appt and had to be gone for a week and right before I left, my dog became really sick and needed IV for 3 days. Heather didn’t hesitate. She went above and beyond and took Maggie to the vet to make sure she got exactly the care that she needed. I wouldn’t have left my dog period, but I had that much faith in Heather and the doctor’s appt was beyond a need for me.

About: I started my animal career as a dog sitter and walker in middle school. I was always the go-to girl in the neighborhood whenever anyone needed a pet sitter. I took my passion for dogs even further and became a dog groomer. I was a professional dog groomer for 5 years before I started having issues with carpal tunnel. I still groom a bit on the side if needed. Dogs are my passion, and I hope to one day start my own rescue group and sanctuary for homeless dogs. I treat every dogs as if they were my own. I have worked on dogs as small as 3 pounds, and dogs as big as 225 pounds. I am comfortable with all breeds and do not discriminate against “bully” breeds. Let me be your first choice in animal care and your fur baby will thank you! I have a very flexible schedule at the moment. I am available for one-time jobs, occasional jobs, and regular scheduled jobs. I am also available weekends and holidays! Unfortunately I don’t have a dog of my own at the moment. I live in a very quiet apartment complex that also has a dog park on the property.

Charlotte went above and beyond making sure Sumo and Sake were comfortable in our absence!! She literally feels like family after staying at our home and communicating with us day to day with photos and videos of our boys. Her care and level of comfort with two large dogs exceeded our expectations!! She treated our home like her own, everything was the same if not in better condition from when we left. I highly recommend her and we will certainly be asking her to stay again in the very near future! It’s hard to find people that give you a peace of mind while traveling. She is reliable and loves your family like they are her own. Cannot say enough. Thank you Charlotte!

About: I’ve been caring for animals since I was young, and it has always brought me so much joy. I’ve been surrounded by German Shepherds my whole life and had my first Pit Bull about 10 years ago. I am reliable I am compassionate I am caring and loving I am patient and attentive I am trustworthy and best of all affordable 🐶 I own a business that really just requires my time in the mornings on some weekends. My daughter just started school so I have quite a bit of extra time to give to your little ones 🐾 I live on a large bit of property. FAQs for House Sitting - Southward

Frequently asked questions about Rover

As of August 2026, there are 401 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Southward. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:

  • Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
  • Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
  • Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
  • Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.

The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Southward walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.

It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Southward maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:

  • Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
  • Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
  • Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.

Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!

Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Southward choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.

Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.

Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.

If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.

Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Southward. On Rover:

  • 89% of sitters can help with special care needs
  • 96% can help with giving oral medications or injections
  • 100% can help with daily exercise

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.

Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
