“My fur babies loved Shelly! She sent me pictures and took great care of them. My dogs are terrified of fireworks and she made sure to be there and comfort them while we were away. 10/10 would recommend!”

“Lydia was very attentive to my pets needs. She was available throughout the day, not leaving my pets alone at home for too long. She was very sweet and communicative while I was away, making sure to send updates and pictures throughout the day. I will definitely rebook her for future needs and recommend her to everyone.”

“Aaron was great with our furbabies, Molly and Teddy. We were a little nervous about leaving them but Aaron seemed to take a genuine interest in them and was willing to give plenty of play time to our boy, Teddy, and lots of cuddles for Molly. We got regular updates and photos and Aaron kept us updated on how they were doing. With him housesitting, we felt comfortable that the dogs could have their routine while we were away. When we got home the place was just as we left it, tidy and everything in its place. We hope to use Aaron again and recommend him if you're looking for someone trustworthy who really seems to love dogs.”

“This is the second time using Rebecca. She was very prompt, responsive, provided updates including pictures and most of all took great care of my dog. She can be a nervous dog and she feels comfortable with Rebecca.”

“This is the second time I have trusted Michelle to care for my two cats while away. Neither of my babies have shown stress upon my return and my home was cared for, which speaks to the level of care! I greatly appreciate the up dates Michelle provides. I will choose Michelle for my future cat care needs.”

“Grace did a wonderful job with an overnight stay at my house with my three pets. She is very attentive and always easy to communicate with before, during, and after the stay! Highly recommend Grace!!”

“Andrew was an absolute godsend while we were away!!! He took the BEST care of our dog, and sent us cute photos and videos each day! He truly listened to what we wanted for our dog (who is older and a little stubborn) and went above and beyond in terms of caring for her like his own beloved pet. He checked in with us to ensure that we were ok with certain things, and did an amazing job of keeping us reassured that things were all a-ok, which was particularly nice since it was our first time experiencing an in-home pet sitter. He left our house in nicer condition than when we left it. I’m pretty sure my dog misses him now that we are home! We have already told him we will be using his services again in the future!!!”

“We can't say enough wonderful things about Miranda and the exceptional care she provided for both our home and our senior cat. From the very start, her professionalism, warmth, and dedication were apparent. Miranda kept us updated with regular messages and adorable photos, giving us total peace of mind while we were away. Beyond her attentive care, she left our home in immaculate condition. We wholeheartedly recommend Miranda to anyone looking for a trustworthy, thoughtful, and reliable house and pet sitter. She exceeded all expectations, and we will absolutely be reaching out to her for future stays!”

“Lo took great care of our dogs and the house. I will be using her again and highly recommend. My dogs take a minute to let new people in their circle and she did great with them. They loved her!”

“Ava still doesn't like when we leave, but Shawna P. has done a great job making her feel as comfortable as possible. Ava still yells at us when we get home, but she is much more relaxed and happier than if she spent the time boarding at the kennel.”

I have a fenced in yard and sun room ✨ I have a large fenced in shaded yard that is mostly private! My neighbors are all friendly and have dogs of their own in fenced yards! Plenty of space for fetch and a neighborhood to go on walks in! If you have a list of specifics you would like to provide me with such as feeding time and walk times I would love that information!
“We felt very comfortable with Tracy at our meet and greet. Our cat, who hides from most people came right up to Tracy immediately. Tracy kept in touch with us regularly and sent pictures while we were away. I've never felt more comfortable and she seemed to know how we felt and did everything right and even left our house looking perfect, took care of plants inside and out and birdfeeders and even offered more help that we hadn't mentioned. Tracy went above and beyond and we will definitely use her again if we ever leave for more than a day. Leaving pets is very difficult but Tracy truly understands and gives your pets everything they need with no complaints and she enjoys being the type of help that's extremely difficult to find. We thank her from the bottom of our hearts! We recommend her wholeheartedly!”

We had an excellent experience with Elizabeth! She stayed at our house and took wonderful care of our dog the entire time. She sent daily pictures and updates, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. The house was also left spotless. Highly recommend - we’ll definitely be booking with her again!
Aaron was a lifesaver for us. We needed someone last minute to stay with Duke, and he responded incredibly quickly and stepped in without hesitation. He made sure our little guy was well taken care of, which gave us so much peace of mind while we were away. We really appreciated his reliability, communication, and would definitely reach again in future!
Christina was fantastic! She took excellent care of our pets while we were away. We have two big dogs and three cats, and they all settled in with her super quickly and were very comfortable! She sent plenty of pictures and updates and also took great care of our home. We definitely would have Christina pet sit again in the future!

Michelle was able to come to the house to meet our boy before confirming which helped ease our anxiety of leaving him. She house sat for us since our boy doesn't like to be alone at night. Captain had a great time with Michelle. She fixed his blankets for him and loved on him. Thanks so much Michelle!

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Smith Valley walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Smith Valley maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Smith Valley choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Smith Valley. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 97% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 98% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
