“Lacole was able to accommodate by watching my dogs kind of last minute for almost a week. She was willing to do a meet and great with me before booking. She was very punctual and sent great updates. I would recommend!”

About: I have worked at a vet clinic for the past 7 summers. I have experience with all types of pets especially dogs and cats in a medical and home setting. I have three dogs of my own. I have a very flexible schedule during the summer as I am a college student who works remotely. During the school year I am available but not as frequently. I go to school in Georgia so am available to dog sit in that area from August through May. I am back in Virginia during the summer so my location can vary based on the time of year. I love to spend quality time with your fur babies. If they enjoy cuddles I am your girl. I will take them on walks, play fetch, or simply be someone to keep them company.
“Destiny has been fantastic with Lotus. She’s reliable, has great availability, and clearly enjoys spending time with him. Lotus is always happy to see her and she somehow manages to capture the best photos of his big smile during their visits. I truly appreciate the care she takes and highly recommend her.”

“Samantha is great!! She takes her time to learn your animal’s specific personality and needs. I felt like my cat was good hands. Really went above and beyond to make our Rover experience a good one. We will be having Samantha back again !”

“BobbieJo is wonderful! She did drop-in visits for our two dogs. They were well taken care of, and they seem to like her a lot. They were in good hands. We didn't have to worry about them while we were away. BobbieJo does an excellent job updating us and sending photos. We will definitely book with BobbieJo again.”

“Meaghan has checked in on our cat Olive a few times now. I know when Meaghan is looking after our fur-baby that she is being well cared for. She sends updates with messages and pictures, which puts my mind at ease while I am away. I feel comfortable having her come into our home while we're away knowing that things will be exactly as they were when we left them. Thank you for your work, Meaghan!”

About: Animals have been a constant part of my life — I grew up with both dogs and cats, and I’ve continued caring for them throughout my adult life. Because of that, I understand the little things that make each pet unique: the routines they rely on, the quirks that make them who they are, and the kind of attention that helps them feel safe and loved. When I’m walking your dog or stopping in for a visit, I bring that same lifelong experience and patience. I’m comfortable with everything from playful puppies who need structure to senior pets who move at a slower pace. I’m also attentive to shy or anxious pets and take the time to earn their trust. What sets me apart is how personally I take the responsibility of caring for someone’s pet. I treat your animals the way I treat my own — with consistency, kindness, and genuine care. My goal is simple: when you’re away, your pet still feels at home. As an educator and high school football coach, I’m used to balancing responsibilities, managing time well, and showing up consistently for the people who depend on me. That same reliability carries over into the way I care for pets. With summer approaching, my schedule becomes even more flexible, giving me plenty of time for regular walks, drop‑in visits, and consistent routines for your pets. Even during the school year, my afternoons, evenings, and weekends are open, which makes it easy for me to fit pet care naturally into my week. Because I’ve always had dogs and cats of my own — both growing up and now in my adult life — caring for animals is already part of my daily rhythm. Whether it’s early‑morning walks, midday check‑ins, or evening visits, I’m able to give each pet the attention, structure, and comfort they’re used to. When I’m caring for pets in a client’s home, my goal is to keep their routine as familiar and stress‑free as possible. I know how much comfort pets get from being in their own space, so I make sure everything I do matches the rhythm they’re used to. I follow your instructions closely — feeding schedules, walk times, medications, crate routines, and any little quirks that matter to your dog or cat. I take the time to learn their personality, whether they’re energetic and playful, shy and slow to warm up, or somewhere in between. I make sure they get plenty of attention, affection, and structure so they feel safe and cared for while you’re away. Because I’ve had dogs and cats my entire life, both growing up and now as an adult, I’m comfortable handling all kinds of needs: puppy energy, senior care, anxious pets, or those who just want someone to sit nearby and keep them company. I also keep your home tidy, respect your space, and send regular updates so you always know how your pet is doing.
“Tessa did such a great job taking care of my dog & cat! She sent lots of pictures so I could see them while I was out of town and was very communicative. Will definitely hire her again! Thanks, Tessa! 😊”

⸻ I reached out to Elizabeth and she responded with such a positive and warm attitude. When we met in person, I immediately liked her—she’s very outgoing and easy to connect with. I have four cats, and they’re not the easiest to win over. Three of them usually hide under the bed when strangers are around, but one actually came out to greet her. Elizabeth was incredibly kind and patient, speaking gently and making a real effort to help them feel comfortable. Although I originally booked her for six days, I only needed help for five. When I returned, everything was spotless—the litter boxes were clean, they had fresh water, and the cats all seemed happy and well cared for.

Cat sitters on Rover care for your cats’ needs and can spend quality time with them, including activities like feeding, playing, and refreshing their water and litter boxes. Depending on your arrangement, you can schedule as many visits per day as your cat needs or find a sitter who can stay at your house overnight. Some sitters also board cats in their home.

If you live in an apartment or condo, don’t forget to discuss details like buzzer access, codes, or elevator etiquette. These details can help a pet sitter feel more comfortable going in and out of your building.

A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your cat, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Rome. On Rover:

You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
