“We haven’t been traveling so I haven’t used these guys in a while, but I did need to call on them a few days ago. Our dog had suffered a medical issue and I felt really comfortable leaving Jonathan and Shelly in charge. They did not disappoint. I still recommend them 100% and already have them lined up for our next trip!”

“Tonya was absolutely great with the dogs! They loved her from the minute they met her! Missed her when she was gone as well. She was so respectful of our home and going above and beyond to keep it clean! Would plan to rebook in future”

“Sharon went above and beyond caring for my fur babies!! Extremely attentive to both of their special needs and was Johnny on the spot answering questions and providing pictures, as well as keeping my updated during the day of how things were going. She's a rockstar and would highly recommend her to take care of your fur babies!”
“Kylee was so incredible!!! She watched 4 dogs for a whole week and took such good care of them. She was super responsive and gave me updates! It also was super rainy the last few days and with 4 dogs and our yard is super muddy/ floors not good with mud and dog fur, we fully expected to walk into a filthy house but to our surprise the house was spotless. She went above and beyond to make the house look amazing even in the rain! We really appreciate it and will be absolutely be using her again in the future for any needs we have!”

About: I've spent years caring for animals with a variety of personalities, ages, and needs. Living with a Great Dane has made me very comfortable handling large and giant breeds, and caring for my Labrador through her 17th year gave me plenty of experience with the extra patience and attention senior dogs need. I'm also experienced in administering insulin injections and following medication schedules for pets with medical needs. No matter your animal’s age, size, or routine, I'll make sure they receive attentive, compassionate care and feel right at home while you're away. Pet care fits naturally into my routine because I have a flexible schedule that allows me to make time for the pets in my care. I typically finish work by 3 PM, and I also have two days each week where I work from home, giving me extra availability and flexibility throughout the day. When needed, I can also use my lunch break to check in on your pets and make sure they’re doing well. I’m available for evening and weekend care as well, allowing me to provide consistent attention, companionship, and support for your pet’s daily routine. I provide pet care in my client’s home, where I can help pets feel comfortable by keeping their familiar routines and surroundings. I understand that every pet has their own needs, so I focus on providing attentive, reliable care that includes feeding, playtime, walks, medication needs, and plenty of companionship. I’m available for weekday visits, evenings, and weekends, and I also offer daily walks and evening walks to help keep pets happy, active, and well cared for while their owners are away.
“I would 100% recommend Erika. She was great with our anxious dog and left our house cleaner than we did. She was very communicative and provided regular updates. She is also super friendly and I felt very comfortable having her stay in our home!”

About: Hi there, I’ve been caring for dogs for over 30 years and I love what I do. I’ve looked after pups of all breeds, sizes and personalities - from playful puppies to senior sweethearts- I’ve never had a single problem or unhappy client. Im also a proud parent myself of two adorable Shih Tzus and understand how important it is to find someone you can trust to care for your furry family members. Whether it’s daily drop ins, weekend stays or just extra love and attention while you are away, I’ll treat your pets as if they were my own. I am available and ready to spend time with your furry family members on short notice. Looking forward to many fun filled days with your pets. I will take care of your pets as if they were mine. We will form a loving bond and enjoy our time together while waiting for your return.
“Sophie was fantastic with my pup and 2 kitties over the weekend! She was so attentive and sent so many photo updates! I would absolutely recommend using her for your pet sitting needs and I will definitely be a repeat client”

“This was our first time using Rover for house sitting. Tara was prompt at responding and made us feel comfortable from the first moment! She made time to come over and meet my two dogs before my husband and I went out of town and made sure she had all the information she needed for a successful weekend. While we were gone Tara remained in touch and sent us lots of pictures to show the dogs were having fun and doing well. My pups had a blast playing with Tara while we were gone and she did a wonderful job caring for them as if they were her own! I will definitely be rebooking with her in the future!”

“Julie was excellent! Our girl Moxie suffers from separation anxiety and Julie knew how to support her while we were gone. In addition, our house was so clean you wouldn’t have known anyone else had been there. Thank you, Julie!”

About: Hello, I'm excited to welcome your fur buddy into our home. We will love them as our very own and keep them happy while your away. I've owned dogs since I was in elementary and have provided care for my family and friends. I work a flexible, hybrid schedule which makes it convenient to be available care for our fur guest. I'm off every weekend and will have a laid back daily routine for them. Walks, playtime, outside play and of course snuggles. I will accommodate each and every pups needs. I have a very safe home. Our back yard is fenced in with tons of running and exploring space. I will NOT keep aggressive dogs. If you know your dog is aggressive and doesn't get along with other dogs, please do not choose me. I have to ensure the safety for all of my babies. (Pups) As an extra precaution I ask for an updated picture of your dog's shots record. This provides transparency for all parties. I want to make sure that all if my babies are safe and healthy at all times.
About: I just moved to Charleston, but have been a pet sitter for many families in Georgia, Florida, and Colorado. I was a live in nanny for 2 years, and during that time, the family got a puppy that I helped take care of. I also have a senior cat who I rescued as a kitten. I absolutely love animals and have had many different pets throughout my life (bearded dragon, dog, cats, fish, bunnies, geckos, snake, turtle, etc.). I am a part time wedding planner and substitute teacher, so I make my own schedule. I have a 5 year old daughter that I drop off at school at 7:15am and pick up at 2:30pm, so I have the whole day to do whatever I need to do without her. She also loves pets, so if your pet likes children, she may join after school! I have a screened in patio and am on the first level in my apartment building. We have lots of trees/greenery in the complex and there are many parks nearby. If I am in your home, I will treat it just like mine. I do ask that my 5 year old daughter is welcome in your home for overnights, and she can stay in the same bed as me.
“I will continue to post great things about Brandi - she takes amazing care of my fur monsters and was incredibly flexible when I had to make some travel changes to come home early. She was compassionate and kind, and in the midst of why I had to return home early, she went above and beyond and cleaned my bedding, bath and my dishes so I could come home and rest/heal. Brandi is not only a great person for your animals, but is an overall wonderful human being. Could not recommend more.”

“She has been my go-to sitter for years and my dogs love her. She always is very communicative and keeps me updated on everywhere and sends me pictures of my dogs being dorks and showing how happy they are”

I aim to maintain your pet's familiar surroundings, minimizing stress and anxiety. I adhere to your pet's usual routines, feeding schedules, and exercise preferences that is needed
“Lauren was great with my kitten, Bates. She provided updates and pictures which kept me feeling connected while away. My kitten bonded with her (which is atypical for her!) so Lauren is special in my book. It was so nice to not worry about it and know she was in great hands.”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of September 2026, there are 869 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ritter. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ritter walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ritter maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ritter choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Ritter. On Rover:
- 92% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 98% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 97% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
