“Shakita is the best. She's super accommodating, she took my morkiepoo in after I booked the night before and took great care of him. She sent several update pictures and videos throughout the entire stay and made me feel so at ease leaving my dog with someone else. It was the first time he boarded with someone and I'm excited to board with her whenever the need comes up again. Highly recommend if you've got a nervous little pup and you're worried about leaving them with someone else. He seemed really happy during his visit and afterwards.”

About: My experience working in animal welfare taught me the importance of patience, compassion, and understanding each animal's unique needs. I know that finding someone you trust with your pets isn't easy, so I became a sitter to provide the kind of care and reassurance I would want for my own animals. I regularly care for my children's pets, and they love coming to Grandma's house! Whether it's walks, playtime, cuddles, or sticking to familiar routines, I believe every pet deserves to feel safe, loved, and at home while their family is away. ❤️ I work from home two days each week to provide attention, companionship, and care. I'm also home most weekends, which allows me to maintain your pet's routine and make sure they receive plenty of love, playtime, and supervision while you're away. This flexible schedule helps us provide consistent care and ensures your pets won't be left alone for long periods. 🐾💙 Our dogs are an important part of the family, and they're treated that way every day. They enjoy daily walks, either on the trail that winds through our 5-acre property or around our quiet neighborhood. We also have a fenced acre where dogs can safely explore, play, and burn off energy. Pets are fed twice daily and receive plenty of love and attention throughout the day. Whether it's snuggling on the couch, playing with toys, or enjoying outdoor time, we make sure every pet feels comfortable and cared for. Of course, good behavior is rewarded with treats! Two of our dogs especially love a good game of fetch, so you'll often find us outside throwing a ball and enjoying some extra playtime. My goal is to make every pet feel safe, happy, loved, and right at home while you're away. 🐾❤️

About: 🐾 Hi, I’m your dog’s new favorite human! I’m a reliable, attentive, and animal-loving sitter who treats every pup like my own. Whether your dog is full of energy and loves long walks, or prefers cozy naps and gentle company, I tailor my care to fit their personality and routine. I hold a Master’s degree in Animal Science with a focus on canine and feline care, and I have hands-on experience in dog shows and dog sports. This means I’m comfortable working with everything from high-energy, well-trained performance dogs to everyday companions who just want love and consistency. I also have experience with both basic pet grooming and show dog grooming, so I pay close attention to coat care, cleanliness, and overall presentation. I’m experienced with dogs of all sizes, ages, and temperaments, and I’m comfortable administering basic medications, sticking to feeding schedules, and maintaining routines. I’ll also keep you updated with photos and messages so you always know your pet is happy, safe, and well cared for. Safety, trust, and lots of tail wags are my top priorities. I can’t wait to meet your furry family member! 🐶💛 Pet care is a natural and consistent part of my daily routine. I structure my schedule to prioritize the needs of the pets in my care, including regular walks, feeding times, play, and enrichment. Because of my background in animal science and experience with dog sports and shows, I’m very used to maintaining structured routines and adapting to each dog’s individual needs—whether that’s high-energy exercise, training reinforcement, or a calm, predictable environment. I’m flexible throughout the week and make sure I have the availability to give each pet the time, attention, and consistency they deserve. Safety, trust, and a calm environment are my top priorities in both my home and my client’s home. When caring for pets in a client’s home, I aim to keep their routine as consistent as possible to reduce stress. I follow all instructions closely—feeding schedules, exercise, medications, and any household preferences—while keeping the environment clean, secure, and respectful. I’m very mindful of doors, gates, and potential hazards to ensure pets stay safe at all times. In my home, I provide a structured, low-stress environment with plenty of supervision, enrichment, and rest. Dogs are never left unattended in unsafe situations, and I carefully manage introductions and interactions if other dogs are present. Cleanliness, secure spaces, and routine are always maintained. With my background in animal science, dog sports, and grooming, I’m very attentive to behavior, body language, and overall wellbeing, allowing me to respond quickly to each pet’s needs and keep them comfortable, safe, and happy.

With over 4 years of hands on experience working with dogs of all breeds, sizes, and temperaments, you can feel confident your dog is in capable and knowledgeable hands. As a certified dog trainer, I go beyond basic boarding by providing structure, guidance, and consistency throughout their stay. Whether it’s reinforcing commands, practicing leash manners, or simply maintaining a calm routine, your dog is always learning and thriving ✨🐶 I also have three personal dogs of my own ranging from 1 to 8 years old, so I truly understand the different needs, energy levels, and personalities that come with every stage of life 🐕🐕‍🦺🐾 My goal is to give your dog a comfortable, enriching, and stress free stay while giving you complete peace of mind knowing they’re safe, happy, and well cared for Pet care fits perfectly into my schedule because I’m a stay-at-home mom and a part-time dog trainer who works out of my own home. I’m already home throughout the day, which allows me to give pets plenty of attention, potty breaks, playtime, and consistent care without long periods alone. My training background also means I understand dog behavior, routines, and safety, so your pet gets both loving care and structured supervision in a calm, home-based environment. When pets stay in my home, they become part of my daily routine and are treated like family. I provide a safe, clean, and calm environment with plenty of supervised playtime, regular potty breaks, and time to relax. I follow each pet’s feeding schedule and any special instructions closely, including medications if needed. Because I’m home most of the day, I’m able to give them lots of attention, affection, and structure, while using my dog training experience to reinforce good behavior and keep interactions positive and safe.

Frequently asked questions about Rover

Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.

Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.

Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.

During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.

Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Powcan home-away-from-home, we recommend packing:

  • Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
  • Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
  • Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Powcan.

Tip: You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.

You and your Powcan sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.

The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.

All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee, which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.

Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.

Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page.

While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.

Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.

By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.

If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.

For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.

Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
