“This was our first time using Rover. We have an anxious puppy and weren’t sure how it would go. Jessica made several house visits ahead of time so Nieva could get to know her. Nieva was excited to see her and sad when her new friend left. We’ll definitely be using her in the future. I was able to relax knowing she was in good hands.”

“Katie was great with our 2 dogs. She knows her stuff when it comes to dog care. We were so comfortable with leaving the house and dogs in her care. Our girls are old and settled in their ways, but they loved her and Freya.”

“Maryrose was so wonderful! I’m a nervous nelly when it comes to leaving my husky because I know he’s a good bit to handle and I felt so relaxed while on vacation because of all the updates I was getting! Mary watched our husky, Blue and our hound Cooper and she did so wonderful with our instructions! If you want to feel good about leaving your pets with someone, let it be Maryrose! We will definitely rebook!”

About: I am always the first to be called when a friend needs doggy daycare or house sitting with dogs, cats, and often other animals. I’ve fostered and found homes for rescues internationally and domestically. I’ve worked for a doggy daycare where I was responsible for 50-70 dogs with a crew of 2-4 people. I also spent a few months off and on taking care of 10-22 huskies while part of the herd were sled racing. I’m comfortable with dogs of all sizes and enjoy seeing all of their unique personalities. I’ve loved animals since I was small. We always had cats when I was little, as well as ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, my turtle boy China B, parakeets, and a Senegal parrot foster. I was surprised with a rescue dog when I was 10, Hemingway. It was an amazing experience and I helped train Hemmy to be a service dog for my grandmother who was visually impaired. Winter rates are now $250/day for basic overnights, includes 3 pets. Will adjust include extra rates accordingly to animals and household needs. I’m self employed and have the flexibility to set my daily schedule around your animals needs and regular routine. Lots of scritches, play time and love are part of my commitment to your pets. I am available for short and long walks (depending on your animals needs and ability), playtime, companionship, love and affection, meals and snacks as well as monitoring medication if needed.
“Shawn stayed with our dog for three nights while we were out of town. Our dog does not warm up to new people quickly, but Shawn has an easy way with animals and was patient and understanding of his needs. She even successfully gave him his medication, which is not always easy. Shawn is easygoing and communicative and I highly recommend her.”

“Our little dog was in the best of hands with Jessica. She kept us updated with how he was doing, stayed attentive to his needs throughout the weekend, and offered a safe, comfortable indoor and outdoor space to explore. Highly recommend!”

“Kirk is incredible and we are already brainstorming reasons to have him pet sit :P He takes such good care and consideration of the pet’s needs. I saw how the other pets looked up to him for safety and comfort. He took great care of our anxious girl. Thanks Kirk!”

“Ann was a great pet and house sitter. Our pets (Oscar & Lacey) loved her, I actually think they miss her. She was a great communicator and sent us photos while we were away. We would definitely ask Ann to sit again and again!”

“Charlotte was exceptional! She loved on our pup and cat like crazy. She sent many, many updates, videos, and pictures. Her warm and kind spirit made all of us love her instantly. We think the pets had a better vacation than we did! Last- the house looked as though she’d never been there (other than the thoughtful note she left). We HIGHLY recommend Charlotte for pet sitting!”

About: I have always had pets of my own up until recently. I love to hike and am constantly on the go outdoors. I’ve cared for many breeds including German and Australian shepherds, labs, retrievers, Great Danes, spaniels and more! I’d love to get your dog outdoors! I’m completely free until July! Meaning I have a lot of time to play with and walk your friends any day, and at any time, whenever you need most! I will love your animals like their my own! I’ll take them out, play with them, and make sure they’re needs are met efficiently, and to yours and their satisfaction!
“Bohni was a treat on all levels!!! She stayed with my cat for 3 nights and 4 days.. I think my cat likes her more. The house was better than I left it.. Angel was calm and happy.. I was able to be away from her for the first time and feel confident in her STELLAR care.. if there were 10 stars she would get them all!!!!! Got photos all well everyday!!!! Happy customer”

“Kirsten was awesome! We had just moved into a new house and it was a little chaotic, but Kirsten had no issues with staying in a half unpacked house. She sent frequent photos of our boys which was very appreciated. I think she genuinely enjoyed her time with them.”

“Julia was terrific! Our Stanley can be a little shy around new people, but she came and met him before spending several nights with him, and the second time she came he was so excited to see her! She sent us daily pictures, took him on lots of hikes, and took such great care of our little buddy. We are so thankful for her and won’t be using anyone else!”

Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Penobscot walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Penobscot maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Penobscot choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
