“Dawn was everything I was looking for in a dog sitter: Responsible, caring, and clean and tidy of my property. She even helped set up my porch furniture that I didn’t have time to do before I left. My dog was well cared for. I will definitely use her again.”

“I can't imagine a better pet/house sitter. The cats are often either especially needy or even standoffish when I come back from a trip but this time they treated me like I'd just gone for a walk, fell back into their usual routine, which is exactly what you want. Summer left the house better than when I handed it to her, had extra sheets washed etc etc. Over and above.”

“Another fantastic experience with Beth watching our house and 2 kitties! She’s definitely our go-to person for overnight pet sits when we’re out of town, would highly recommend her services to anyone with a pet sitting need. Thanks again!”

About: Hello, I'm Allison. I love animals. I started taking care of my family's pets when I was 4 years old. Animals play a huge part in my life, especially dogs. I'm a proud owner of a mix breed (Chance) and two other dogs(Loki and Prada. Who are all rescues. Chance was rescued off the side of the road with a minor head injury. Loki was rescued from a litter of pups, where he was the runt that nobody wanted. Prada was rescued from a "homeless", who could not care for her. I'm very patient and loving when it comes to the care of animals. I've worked at a animal shelter/vets office for 1 year. My services include feeding, playing, exercise, bathing, cage-less boarding, teeth brushing, and more. I'm capable of giving your Pet it's medication (oral or injection if needed). Im a stay at home mom. So I'll have plenty of time to play with your fur babies. My schedule is pretty flexible if needed. I have a very friendly and social cat. She mostly stays in her car tree or I can put her in a separate part of the apartment. So no need to worry about your fur baby getting her. I can also crate your fur baby if needed
“Andrea is everything you could want in a pet sitter — and then some. She’s responsible, communicative, and organized, but what truly sets her apart is the genuine warmth and kindness she brings to every interaction. While caring for my cats, she sent regular updates and adorable photos that gave me total peace of mind. It was clear she wasn’t just doing a job — she truly cared about their well-being. If you’re looking for someone you can trust with your pets, I can’t recommend Andrea highly enough.”

About: Animals have been a part of my life since I was 8 years old, and caring for pets has always come naturally to me. I have experience caring for both my own pets and the pets of friends and neighbors, including dogs ranging from 5 to 65 pounds. I’m comfortable working with senior pets, anxious pets, and different personalities, always making sure they feel safe, loved, comfortable, and well cared for while their owners are away. I currently work part-time, giving me a flexible schedule and plenty of time to provide attentive, reliable care, walks, playtime, companionship, and comfort for pets. I currently provide care only in clients’ homes, following each pet’s routine, feeding schedule, medications, and special instructions to keep them comfortable, safe, stress-free daily

About: Animals have always naturally gravitated toward me, and caring for them genuinely makes me happy. I’m the kind of person who notices when a pet wants comfort, quiet, playtime, or just someone calm to sit with them. I especially love creating a peaceful, loving environment where pets feel safe and cared for while their owners are away. I’m very respectful of people’s homes, clean, dependable, and communicative. I know how vulnerable it can feel leaving your pets with someone else, so I treat every animal with real patience, affection, and attention — not just as a job, but because I truly love being around them. I’m also available for overnight stays, house sitting, feeding, walks, companionship, bringing in mail, watering plants, and helping keep things running smoothly while you’re away. I have a flexible schedule right now, which allows me to give pets lots of attention, affection, and companionship throughout the day. Animals have always been a huge part of my life, and I truly love getting to know each pet’s unique personality and making them feel safe, happy, and cared for while their owners are away. I’m available for house sitting, drop-ins, walks, and overnight care most weekdays and weekends. I know how important it is to trust the person caring for your pets and being in your home, and I take that responsibility very seriously. I’m dependable, attentive, and genuinely loving with animals. I pay close attention to routines, feeding instructions, medications, and the little things that help pets feel comfortable and secure while you’re away. I’ll always treat your home with respect, keep things clean and tidy, and make sure you receive regular updates and photos so you can feel completely at ease.
“William was great with my puppy. He sent pictures and even saved her from eating a plastic chew toy that was left behind at the dog park. He gives wonderful updates that makes you feel at ease. Repects the space and kept things clean. Will definitely book again!”

“Chloe did an exceptional job watching our Dane. He was dealing with an injury and needed extra attention, a cone and medication and Chloe met all of his needs. This was our first time using Rover and being able to travel with peace of mind that our boy was at home made our trip so much more enjoyable. We came home to a very happy boy and a clean house. We will for sure be using Chloe on future trips and recommend her to any of our friends that have pets.”

“I would recommend Vicky as your pet sitter! She is very communicative and easy to work with. She is responsible and trustworthy. She was loving and caring with my dog and gave him loads of attention.”

“Katy was an AMAZING dog sitter! Our pup is a little anxious and she was so sweet making sure he was comfortable and happy. She sent us updates and pictures and was very quick to respond whenever I messaged her to check in. She stayed at our place and was a wonderful guest. We came home to a super clean house and everything exactly as we left it. Wally was definitely super happy when he was with her and I would 1000% use Katy again to dog/house sit!”

“Susanna was wonderful with our pets. She sent a check in picture each day to keep us up to speed, and when we got back our dogs were calm and clearly had been loved and cared for while we were gone. They didn’t even seem super excited to see us which is a great sign that they had a good time with Susanna. ?”

“Kyle was FANTASTIC! My Lexi is getting older, so there were some things I needed him to do on the fly, like respond to any changes in her appetite or mood. He wasn't the least bit bothered and gave her all the love, care and attention she needed. I also really appreciated his daily updates and pictures. When I came home, she was in great spirits and my home was immaculate. Thank you Kyle!”

“Elizabeth is an excellent pet host. My Britany, Juno was comfortable with her from the first moment. Liz was engaging with Juno, going on walks or just letting him roam and play. Over a three day period, Liz was flexible with our schedule and even took Juno to her house one day to play with her dog. She sent me photos of his happiness and activity each session. He was happy and I am too!”

“We had an unexpected trip, at the last minute, and Paola was willing to shorten her own trip to come and take care of our pets. I really appreciate that. She sent pictures of playing with out high energy dog playing fetch, he was very tired when we got home so I believed they played a lot of ball!”

FAQs for House Sitting - Penland
Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of June 2026, there are 212 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Penland. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Penland walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Penland maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Penland choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience with handling special pet needs in Penland. On Rover:
- 88% of sitters can help with special care needs
- 100% can help with giving oral medications or injections
- 100% can help with daily exercise
You can also find pet sitters on Rover who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies, kittens, or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and use the Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
