About: Hi! My name is Sage and I specialize in animal caretaking and welfare. I have lived my entire life with at least one animal in the house and I have been dog sitting on and off since high school. I am certified in three years of dog training and currently live with my lovely cat, London. I’ve never met a pet that I haven’t loved, and past employers would describe me as dependable, easy-going, and kind. My days are entirely open, except for the occasional one or two days a week where I am called in from one of my other jobs. I am also a full-time college student during the fall and winter time, but my summers are almost entirely clear. In my home, I live with my cat London, and four other housemates. If your animal stayed with me, they would never feel alone and would always have somebody in the house that can watch them or be there for all their needs. We have a lovely backyard full of grass, a back deck for lounging and sunbathing and a large neighborhood for daily walks. Your pet would feel like a king or queen in a castle! :)
About: I have taken care of dogs my entire life. I am part of a rescue and have had many fosters throughout my home, along with many dogs myself. I had a special needs basset hound and loved giving him the extra help he needed during his life. I also have experience with puppies, big dogs, blind dogs, and shy/breeder release! I did train my dogs starting at age 12 as well. Open at any time! Walks, potty breaks, petting session and everything in between! I have very few scheduling conflicts. Available almost all day every day :) With compassion and care. I would take care of your pet as it is needed and however you request! I would treat your animal and home as I would mine.
“Haley was absolutely incredible with Gypsy (11 yr old anxious reacue dog) and Raya (5 yr old Ragamuffin attention magnet). From the very first complimentary meet and greet, I could tell she was professional and genuinely invested. She came prepared, took detailed notes, asked for emergency contacts, confirmed which vet to use in case of emergency, and made sure she had exact medication dosages. She even asked about each dog’s specific quirks so she could support them in the way they’re used to. That level of thoroughness meant everything to me. Communication during the stay was wonderful. She sent regular photo updates and kept me posted on how they were doing, which gave me total peace of mind. She treated my home with so much care, and I came back to a house that was cleaner than when I left it. She even left the sweetest little coaster as a gift that I found after she left. It said “Sweet Kitten,” and it was such a thoughtful, personal touch. For context, I am a very cautious pet parent, and Gypsy is extremely anxious when separated from me. This was the first time I have ever left them with anyone outside of family, so I was understandably nervous. Haley handled it beautifully. Gypsy was calm, comfortable, and clearly felt safe. I did not worry once all weekend. I truly knew they were in loving, capable hands. Haley is sweet, responsible, attentive, and a joy to work with. And, for those that perhaps run a little late, Haley was able to be flexible with my arrival back home as well. I will ABSOLUTELY be booking her again and would wholeheartedly recommend her to any pet parent, especially those with anxious pups who need extra care and sensitivity.”

“Seth was a fantastic pet sitter. His communication was excellent and prompt, he sent great pics of the pets during our entire trip so I felt confident in their ongoing well-being, and he left the house in amazing shape. He even put up with the fact that our cats have an extremely annoying wake-everyone-up-at-5:00 AM habit ... his patience with our all of our pets' quirks and needs was exceptional. I will book him again!”

About: I’ve lived with 5 hunting dogs my entire life as I was a hunting family and had to always take care of them at home. I now own two dogs of my own that are rescues and I love them as my own family. I have taught all my dogs to sit, fetch, and learn commands. They love to play and go smell around the neighborhood. Let me know if your pet has a special accommodations! I currently work 2-3 days a week depending on the week, so I will have plenty of time to play with your animals and let them out! I am used to watching anywhere from small to large dogs as I have grown up with all sizes in my family. If your dog loves to go on walks, great because I love to exercise!
About: I work remotely in marketing full time. We’re very grateful to have a nice home with a wonderful, large, fenced-in backyard that allows the dogs to go potty in and explore (bark!). My availability and hours are very flexible and the dogs are rarely left alone or kenneled, they are free to roam the house, I just close doors as necessary. I have never owned a dog of my own, I just grew up around dogs and cats. Mainly and most recently, it was a sisters two dogs our family spent the most time around: Gibbs (15 lb., 13 yr old, male Jack Russell Terrier & Beagle mix) and Zero (65 lb., 5 yr old, male Standard Poodle). I would basically Rover for her and her husband, which including giving the senior, anxiety-ridden dog meds (he didn’t enjoy, he would spit them up). We enjoyed being outdoors and evening walks around the neighborhood and having them a part of our family. They have then since moved to the West coast with their dogs. I work remotely and am blessed with the work-life balance it offers. I have an energetic elementary school-aged daughter. She's an empath and truly cares for all animals wellbeing! She's deeply concerned about any discomfort or distress. We have a dog-friendly orange cat named Buddy (4). He's fed first thing in the AM and enjoys chin scratches. He stays nearby me in my office or does his own thing. My daughter buses to and from school and I take a hour lunch at noon, then am done at 5 PM and we go about our evening routine. Dogs go out every few hours (sliding patio door) to the fenced in yard or when they signal me. Right in the morning and before bed. I try to get as much activity in for us as possible, especially on decent weather days. We utilize a nearby parks, dog park and walking trails in our community. Having the dogs here really motivate me to go for more walks, the dogs love them and I appreciate the eager walking company. I also live with my younger sister (23). She works full time 2 jobs as a CNA/retail, isn't home much but does help me care for the dogs, such as a short walk around the block. Our home is a 4 bed, 3 level split with a finished basement. It has a large secure, fully-fenced in yard and the property has 11 trees. Garage is attached. We all sleep in the upstairs bedrooms which is also where my office is. I have 2 litter boxes for my cat, one in garage that he prefers. The other is in the basement bathroom, where I can keep the door shut (Ive caught sisters dog eating litter covered turds). Our neighborhood is very safe and quiet. I have a reflective sash I wear out at night (this summer I was nearly ran over by an SUV when it was dark). The dogs usually sleep on the floor in my room and it's OK if they sleep on the bed, I am not concerned about fur. If the dog stinks, I can give them a bath either downstairs in the wash tub or upstairs in the bathtub. If they stay longer and start to stink, I will bathe them, because everyone feels better after a bath.
“Bobbie was great! We were so nervous, but she sent us photos of the dogs every visit and even did extra activities with them like reading to them and an art project! One dog had some inflammation while we were gone and she was great about the sudden change of having to administer medication and give that pup extra exercise. We will definitely use her again!”

“We are so pleased with the care Eric provided for our three pups while we were away. It is evident how much he genuinely cares about dogs. While we were away, Eric was super responsive and sent photo updates, which we greatly appreciated! When we got home, Arlo, Poppi Mae, and Edison were all so happy, relaxed, and clearly well-cared for. Eric is professional, trustworthy, and wonderful with dogs. We will definitely be reaching out to him again to take care of our hounds!”

About: I have taken care of pets for as long as I can remember. I have experience with dogs, cats, hamsters, rabbits, and fish. I like to make sure the animal is having as much fun as I am. I am currently job hunting until I start college during the second semester so I am free all hours. I can update you as often as you want about your pets. Every hour to once a day it's up to you. I have job shadowed at a vet clinic a few times so I put the animals safety first. I won't pressure or force your animal to do something they don't want. This means that I will spend time with them so they trust me to attach a lesh to go outside. I don't prefer to handle animals at night because they tend to be more cautious but I can if needed.
“Maxine looked after our dog and two cats for three days at our house. She kept in contact with us and sent lots of photos. Our dog got daily walks and played a lot outdoors. We will definitely hire her again.”

“We couldn’t be more grateful to have found Angie! When our first sitter suddenly stopped responding, we were in a panic about our upcoming trip. Angie stepped in at the last minute and completely saved the day. From our first conversation, she was professional, responsive, and reassuring. She took the time to understand our pets’ routines and needs, and we felt comfortable leaving them in her care right away. While we were gone, she sent us updates that put our minds at ease, and we came home to happy, well-cared-for pets and a tidy house. It’s rare to find someone so reliable and caring, especially on short notice. We will absolutely be using her services again and highly recommend her to anyone looking for a trustworthy pet sitter!”

“Jacey was amazing with our two Great Danes. She stayed with them for two nights. She was attentive, communicative, and reliable. She handled our shy boy very well and even got some snuggles from him on the last day. We will absolutely ask for her services again.”

“5 Stars is not enough for this incredible Rover dog/house sitter! Kristin followed our directions to a T, (and then some!) She took care of our dog and home as if they were her own. Our dog was so comfortable while we we gone and our house looked better than when we left. I will be disappointed if we can’t book her every time we need her services!”

“Kayla did a great job caring for our pets and our home while we were away. She checked in daily and we were at ease knowing she had everything under control. We will definitely be reaching out when we need a pet sitter in the future.”

“Julia watched our dogs for a week while we were on our honeymoon, and she was wonderful! She kept us updated on the dogs, and sent us picture and videos. We were anxious to leave them for so long, but Julia 100% calmed our worries with her quick responses whenever we texted her. We will definitely be booking her again 😊”

Frequently asked questions about Rover
As of August 2026, there are 131 sitters on Rover offering House Sitting across Ottawa. Enter your ZIP code to see which available sitters are closest to your home.
Beyond belly rubs and feeding schedules, a house sitter’s presence may provide an additional layer of security for your home. However, you will need to arrange overnight stays and other household tasks with your sitter when reaching out to them. Not all sitters offer the same services. Common household tasks you can negotiate include:
- Mail & deliveries: Collecting letters and packages so they don't pile up.
- Plant care: Keeping your indoor or outdoor garden hydrated.
- Trash & recycling: Taking trash cans to the curb on scheduled pickup days.
- Home security: Sitters can stay overnight to keep your home occupied.
The best way to align on expectations is during your free Meet & Greet. Use this time to provide a "home cheat sheet" that includes your preferred Ottawa walking routes, the location of your favorite pet store, and any specific quirks about your home’s security or appliances.
It’s helpful to think of house sitting as a "home base" service. Most sitters in Ottawa maintain their normal daily routines, like running errands or heading to the office, meaning your pet should be comfortable being alone for a few hours at a time. If your pet needs a little extra company, here is how to find the perfect match:
- Look for "WFH" sitters: Many sitters mention "Work from Home" on their profile to indicate they’ll be present for the majority of the day.
- Update your pet’s profile: Write down how long your pet can comfortably be left alone. This helps sitters quickly determine if their schedule aligns with your needs.
- Communicate 24/7 needs: Standard house sitting usually doesn't include constant supervision. If your pet requires round-the-clock care, be sure to discuss this upfront.
Tip: Use the Meet & Greet to confirm a sitter's typical "away" windows. Transparency ensures your pet stays happy and your sitter can plan their day effectively!
Key handling is entirely up to you and your sitter to agree on during the Meet & Greet or in the Rover app. Most pet parents in Ottawa choose to hand over a spare key or digital fob in person, while others arrange a lockbox or unique access code. Don't forget to discuss key returns as well!
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the Rover Guarantee , which provides up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to $25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit Rover's Trust & Safety page .
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your pet to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your pet is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
A Meet & Greet is a short introductory meeting between you, your pet, and a sitter. It can take place in person or virtually, although we recommend in-person so that your pet can get to know your sitter or the new environment. During the Meet & Greet, you will have a chance to walk through your pet's routine, medical needs, and unique quirks. Take the time to ask your sitter questions about their skills and expertise, and make sure the fit feels right for everyone. Most pet parents and sitters on Rover welcome Meet & Greets because the process can give confidence and peace of mind for service experiences, especially for longer stays or first-time bookings.
Sitters on Rover set their own cancellation policy, which you can find on their profile under their calendar availability.
Cancelling before a booking begins and before the sitter's cutoff time qualifies you for a full refund. Same-day cancellations for walks, day care, and drop-ins follow the full refund policy. Otherwise, for dog boarding and house sitting, you will receive a 50% refund for the first seven days of the booking and a 100% refund for the remaining days when you cancel the same day a booking should begin.
If your sitter needs to cancel within seven days of the booking's start date, then our reservation protection will kick in. This means our support team works with you to find a replacement sitter.
Yes, you can find sitters who have experience administering medication or managing dietary requirements. You can also find pet sitters who accept only one pet at a time, which is ideal for anxious puppies or senior pets who move at a gentler pace. Some sitters will also list availability for 24/7 care, also known as constant care, in their profiles.
Use the search filters to narrow down sitters whose specific experience or environment meets your pet's needs. When reaching out to your sitter, outline your pet's care routine and request a Meet & Greet to walk your sitter through your expectations.
