“Lissette and Bernie were super communicative and sent us lots of photos of Pebbles playing, walking and relaxing on her stay! It was our first time leaving her with a sitter while we traveled, and we felt very at ease leaving her with them, especially with her being a puppy!”
“Our 2 dogs were well taken of and tuckered out after we picked them up. Nathan was very communicative and easygoing. We will definitely use Nathan again - we trust him with our pets!”
“Cash had the best time on his weekend stay with Aly. He had a Super Bowl party with new friends! I got lots of updates and could tell he was happy and relaxed. When I went to pick him up he said hello and trotted right back inside, he was not ready to leave! I know he will be so excited to go back to his new vacation house whenever we have to leave town!”
“Svitlana was great with our Border Terrier, Kimi. She sent updates and photos daily. She walked Kimi in the neighborhood and played ball with her in the yard. Kimi came home happy, so we will hire Svitlana again!”
“Our dog Lincoln loved staying at Christine’s place! She took such good care of him, and he came home very happy! We enjoyed our vacation without having to worry about our dogs comfort of safety. Thank you Christine!”
“Heather is super responsive and takes your pet’s needs seriously. My pup is sweet but has some anxiety issues—Heather thoughtfully supported all of his needs while providing lots of pictures and updates to ease my mind while he was under her care. Highly recommended… will definitely be booking again!”
“Juno just completed her fourth stay with Hope, and she had a great time as always. We never spend one minute worrying when Juno is with Hope; she takes the best care of her and always sends us photos while we're traveling. Hope is the perfect sitter, and her Dog Loretta is so sweet! Highly recommend!”
“Whitney was so amazing with our dogs. This was our first time using Rover and she made the booking process smooth and simple. We were so comfortable leaving our girls with her. We got daily updates and photos of our dogs and the adventures they had the farm. We were at ease and able to enjoy our time away from home without any worries. I will be recommending her to our friends and we will be booking with her again.”
“Ollie had the best time playing with all the other pups. I always feel confident that he is in the best hands while we are away. His happy goofy face in the pictures and him needing a 3 day nap afterwards cements that he had a great time. Thank you again! See you next time!”
“Magda was amazing! She was flexible and accommodating to me when my plans had to change and she put me at ease knowing that my doggo would still be taken care of. I will definitely be booking with her again and I recommend that you should too!”
“Jani and Paul are unbelievably the best home away from home. My dog loves going to their house and visiting with the other dogs. She has such a good time she can't wait to jump out of the car for her vacation with them. They treat her like one of their own, and it shows. We have used them several times, and they are great to work with. We won't leave our dog with anyone else. Knowing our dog is safe and loved is priceless.”
“Charity kept my senior pup Buster for two nights this past weekend. He's very dog selective, thus has to be kept by himself/away from other dogs most of the time. I was pleased to find out she took the time to assess his personality and closely supervise an introduction to one of her very laid back dogs and all went well. He came home happy and well adjusted. I've already given her name to a local friend, and will check her schedule for future boarding needs.”
“Kirstin is the best! Can’t say enough good things! Our new rescue puppy Sky is a little timid and needs lots of reassurance. Kirstin provided such a calm & cozy place for her last week & sent lots of updates and pics. I had a great vacation knowing Sky was safe, having fun & even napping with Kirstin’s kitty!”
“Yana is amazing! She took such great care of my dog and sent daily pictures and updates which gave me peace of mind that he was happy and healthy while I was away. Highly recommend her!”
“Jason and his wife were absolutely amazing with my basset, Chewie! They stepped in on a last minute request and gave him all the love and care I could have hoped for. It was clear from the start that they truly love dogs, and Chewie felt right at home with them. I got updates that gave me complete peace of mind, and I could tell he was happy and well looked after the entire time. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Jason and his wife went above and beyond. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for trustworthy, caring, and reliable pet sitters.”
“Emil was so sweet with my little pup and he came back super happy! He was very thorough with making sure he did everything he needed and let him sniff around all the time. A great place to send my little guy.”
“Dorothy was very welcoming to my dog Buddy! He has separation anxiety, but seemed very much at home as soon as we arrived! I know that they took care of Buddy like their own, and he was in very good spirits when I picked him up! Thanks again, and it’s good to know that I can have someone I can rely on!”
“Jayden was GREAT! He keep me updated on what Dallas was doing and how much fun he was having! I had clear and communication and felt as ease with him caring for my dog. Thank you so much and if I need you in the future to care for him, I will definitely try to rebook!”
“Laura did an amazing job caring for our dog while we were on vacation. He came home happy from spending the week playing with Laura and her dogs—she even managed to brush him!! Looking at the photos she sent every day, we kept commenting to ourselves “he’s clearly on his own vacation, too!””

Frequently asked questions about Rover
Rover is the largest marketplace for local pet care. Whether you're looking for pet sitters, dog walkers, or house sitters who specialize in pet sitting, you can narrow your search by entering your ZIP code to find sitters within walking distance in your neighborhood.
Every sitter on Rover has their own routine. Depending on the arrangements you agree on before the stay, a sitter can follow your dog’s regular feeding schedule, provide a comfortable place to sleep, offer companionship, and support their usual exercise and play needs.
Depending on the sitter, their home environment, and your dog’s needs, daily exercise may include walks, outdoor play, indoor enrichment activities, or supervised play with compatible dogs. These activities are not automatically included with every booking, so ask the sitter what a typical day looks like.
During the Meet & Greet, discuss your dog’s usual exercise and play routine, whether they can safely interact with other dogs, and any activities or restrictions the sitter should follow. You can also ask the sitter to send photo and message updates during the stay so you can see how your dog is spending their time.
Preparing for drop-off is easy when you have a checklist! To help your dog settle into their Old Somerset home-away-from-home, packing:
- Health and safety essentials such as their ID tags, vaccination records, medication, and emergency vet or secondary caregiver contacts.
- Food and gear such as harnesses, collars, food (portioned by day), and an item that smells like you.
- Special instructions such as a list of training cues, medical administration needs, or favorite hang-out spots in your Old Somerset.
<b>Tip:</b> You can upload your dog’s routine and medical info directly onto their profile so your sitter always has the details at their fingertips.
You and your Old Somerset sitter can schedule drop-off and pick-up in a way that works best for the both of you—and your dog. Most sitters offer flexible times for drop-off and pick-up but the easiest way to confirm those times will be through in-app messaging. Confirm your arrival time the day of pick-up and drop-off can also help keep the process smooth and organized.
The Rover Guarantee is Rover’s commitment to your peace of mind every time you book. It includes 24/7 customer support, sitter access to advice from qualified veterinary professionals for diagnostic issues, and a reimbursement program for eligible veterinary care in the rare event something goes wrong.
All bookings are backed by the , which provides up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care reimbursement.
Every sitter on Rover is required to pass a background check before listing their services. This process confirms their identity and indicates they are not on the Department of Justice’s National Sex Offender Public Website or have any disqualifying offenses.
Beyond ID checks, you can review each sitter's star rating, read verified reviews from other pet parents, and see how many repeat clients they have. Every booking is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes up to 25,000 in eligible veterinary care. For more details, visit .
While each sitter sets their own vaccine requirements, staying up-to-date on your dog’s vaccines is the best way to be "boarding ready". Vaccinations help create a safe environment for all pets under a sitter’s care.
Many sitters in VA ask that dogs be up to date on core vaccines like the Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, Canine Adenovirus, Bordetella, and Rabies.
By discussing your pet's health history early, you’re adding a layer of confidence for you and your sitter before the booking begins.
If a health concern arises during a stay, your sitter is instructed to contact you and our Trust & Safety team immediately and, if needed, take your dog to the closest veterinarian. Through our Trust & Safety support team, sitters can ask for diagnostic advice from a qualified veterinary professional if your dog is showing signs of possible illness.
For extra peace of mind, you can also prepare an authorization form for your regular vet. An authorization form outlines your preferred method of care and allows your sitter to bring your pet into their regular clinic.
Every qualified booking made on Rover is backed by the Rover Guarantee, which includes reimbursement for eligible emergency vet care.
