Full time supervision & LOVE

At A Touch Of Gold, dogs are supervised 24/7 because taking care of your dog(s) is ALL WE DO! We believe that a kennel should be the last resort for your dog. Your dogs will live in our home like our own dogs do.....ALTHOUGH THEY MUST BE ABLE TO BE CRATED AT NIGHT. Of course that is also subject to any rules you may have about furniture, beds, and so forth. Taking good care of our client's dogs is all that we do and have done FULL TIME in our home since 2010. Dogs pretty much "have the run" of our home and our securely fenced corner lot outside of the village limits. PLEASE NOTE: For safety ALL GUEST DOGS WILL BE CRATED AT NIGHT or when they cannot be directly supervised. But many of our long-term clients have proven trustworthy and no longer get crated at all and get to sleep in our bedroom :) Our philosophy is that ALL dogs should be able to be crated, and if you have questions about this please be sure to ask us at the meet & greet. We have well over FORTY-FIVE years of experience owning, caring for, rehabilitating, and working with dogs. For the last fifteen years hosting dogs in our home has been exclusively how we make our living. We do not have outside jobs, so are almost always here. Actually, we have provided in-our-home boarding and daycare for dogs for over THIRTY-FIVE YEARS all told because taking care of my obedience clients was how I started overnight care back in 1990. In fact, we have a VERY L-O-N-G list of satisfied clients who in many cases are sending their second, and even third generation of cherished tail-waggin' K9 companions to stay with us, and who would never think of sending them anywhere else to stay. We have no breed restrictions. HOWEVER and IMPORTANT: WE REQUIRE THAT WE MEET WITH YOU AND YOUR DOG(S) AT A "MEET & GREET". This is to be sure that they are social with other dogs and people, and will be a good fit here for THEIR SAFETY as well as our existing client dogs since they will be making many new canine friends while here. Even if you are not sure of your dog's sociability, please contact us because we may be able to work with you to create more sociability in your dog due to our extensive experience in understanding and modifying canine behavior. We have many years of experience in hosting dogs who have serious medical conditions and/or are elderly, and are able to give injected as well as oral medication. Unlike many other hosts, we charge our same low price regardless of whether your dog's stay is during a Rover defined "Holiday period" or not. In fact, we offer a multiple dog discount (same household) depending on the length of the stay. This generally begins on the tenth day of a stay, but depends on several factors which we can discuss at the meet & greet. Your dog will be cared for and loved as a part of our pack while you are away and that's why our motto for well over a quarter of a century has been: "Only The Best For Your Best Friend"

Rory had a great time during his 4 night stay! Steve provided updates and pictures, and I felt comfortable knowing my dog was in a safe environment. Rory left happy and tired out from playing with other pups. I couldn’t have had a better experience, and definitely recommend!

Steve was super, our Samantha was well taken care of. We couldn’t have asked for a better person to watch her. II know she can be a handful and he treated her like she was one of his own. I would definitely recommend him.

It was my first time leaving my senior dog, Piper, and my newly adopted 1 year old, Maple, with someone other than family. To say I was anxious is an understatement especially since Maple is so new to our pack and I didn't know how she was going to act at someone else's house. Steve was great, he is good at calming your own nerves and happy/willing to answer all questions, no matter how silly they may be. You can tell he cares and is very knowledgeable about dogs and I would absolutely recommend to anyone in the area needing a comfortable and safe place to board their fur babies. My babies came home happy and healthy and we will use the service again for sure!

Safety, trust & environment

Dogs are supervised 99% of the time, and when not directly supervised they are crated to keep everyone safe. But the focus of what we do is to provide love and attention as if they were at home with you! And because of our secure, five-foot chain link fenced in yard, they have a lot of social interaction with multiple other dogs during the day.

Pets

A typical day

Dogs have lots of social interaction with MANY other dogs while staying with us, and the "run of our home" and the friendship of our Australian Shepherd too!

IMPORTANT: We DO NOT take a new dog "sight unseen" and "last minute" due to there being multiple dogs here at any given time. Keeping our existing client's dogs (and YOUR DOG) safe is of paramount importance. To be clear: A MEET AND GREET IS REQUIRED before we can book a stay with a new dog. If you are from out of the area and cannot travel to meet us first, or there is insufficient time to meet us before your date, then PLEASE DO NOT request a reservation! PLEASE ONLY REQUEST A RESERVATION if you agree to that. I recommend at least two weeks notice before your expected reservation date since meet & greet spots are usually booked many days in advance.
Each sitter joining Rover needs to pass a background check. And by booking on Rover, you can get photo & message updates, 24/7 support, and reimbursement for eligible vet care.
