I have a flexible work schedule to meet your dogs needs. I am located in Central Saanich and can offer my services on the Saanich peninsula and the greater Victoria area.

When on walks, I will always have two points of contact with your dog to minimize any chance of equipment failure. If your dog is being walked on my farm, I will use long leads to ensure it will always stay within my reach while having the freedom to run, sniff, and roam. I love high levels of communication and can provide pick-up, check-in, walk, and drop-off updates as you like. I will use dog-friendly seatbelts when transporting in my climate controlled SUV.

I am accommodating to all special medical and behavioural needs. I have worked with all shapes and sizes in my 3 years at the BC SPCA, so not much phases me. Please be transparent about your dog's behaviour and medical needs so I can meet them appropriately.
A typical day
I love long and slow walks with my dogs. I allow them lots of sniffing time and never rush them along. My 10-acre hay field is my happy place, and it's my dog's happy place too! A wide open space to run and play, with a big sand pile for digging, and a running creek to cool off in.

Pet care experience
Three years working at the BC SPCA has given me the best education I could have asked for when approaching anxious and reactive dogs with fear-free methods. From undersocialized puppies to dog-reactive Great Pyrenees, there is likely not much I haven't seen. I am also passionate about assisting dogs with high medical needs. I am trained in Animal Kind and Fear Free methods and approach every dog with patience and empathy.

There is not a person I trust more with my pets than Shelby. I have witnessed her care for every animal under the sun including dogs, cats, pigs, goats, horses and much more. I have 3 special needs animals that need a tremendous amount of care, including my reactive and fear aggressive street dog, and my 2 senior dachshunds with disabilities and behavioural issues. I feel at ease and extremely comfortable leaving them with Shelby which is not a feeling I have with other friends and caretakers. Shelby also has decades of experience working with rescues and also has many years working at the SPCA. I initially reached out to her as I knew she specialized animals and dogs that had behavioural issues or needed rehabilitation. I would recommend Shelby's care and services to everyone as she truly is able to connect with animals in a special and caring way.
Shelby has cared for my reactive senior rescue dog many times. He is always very excited to see her and loves spending time with her. Shelby is an animal lover with a particular interest in rescue dogs that need extra patience and understanding. Her approach is kind and gentle with an emphasis on positive reinforcement to help them work through their insecurities. I would highly recommend Shelby to work with any type of dog whether it be a rambunctious puppy, a senior citizen or anything in between! She is trustworthy, reliable and most dedicated to her four legged friends.
