Availability & Approach Consistent Weekday Routine I work on-site at a retail store Monday through Friday. My schedule is stable and predictable, and your dog will spend the workday with me at the shop. This ensures they have constant companionship and are never left alone at home. The "Shop Dog" Lifestyle Your dog will stay with me in a quiet office area within the store. It’s a great environment for a socialized dog who enjoys being where the action is. Because this is a functioning retail business, there will be occasional foot traffic and ambient noise, making this ideal for "chill" dogs who are comfortable in a public-facing setting. Exercise & Potty Schedule To fit the workday flow, I provide the following activity schedule: Morning: A structured walk before we head into the store. Workday: Regular outdoor potty breaks and fresh air as needed. While we won't go for long walks during store hours, your dog will be by my side and mentally engaged throughout the day. Evening: A second walk once we’ve finished at the shop to wind down. One-on-One Attention I don't have dogs of my own at home right now, so your dog will be my sole focus. They won’t have to deal with the stress of other animals in the house and will receive dedicated care both at work and at home. Expert Handling I use my background to ensure all our time outside—whether it's a quick break or our morning/evening walks—is safe and structured. I’m very comfortable maintaining leash manners and reinforcing basic commands so your dog stays consistent with their training.

Safety, trust & environment

Safety & Environment Professional Environment Management My approach to safety is rooted in my years of experience as a Search and Rescue handler. I don’t just "watch" dogs; I manage their environment—whether at my home or my retail office—to ensure they stay calm, secure, and relaxed. Secure Home Space At home, I have a fully fenced backyard where your dog can enjoy fresh air and play safely. While I am at the store during the day, our mornings and evenings are spent in this secure, private space. A Quiet, Focused Home I provide a calm, structured home environment. While I have a cat, she is an outdoor cat and will not be in the home or interacting with your dog during their stay. This allows your pet to enjoy the indoor space without the stress of other resident animals. Expert Handling & Security I use professional handling techniques on every outing. My background as a SAR handler means I am always scanning for potential triggers, off-leash dogs, or hazards. I am meticulous with gear—leashes, harnesses, and securing gates are double-checked with the same discipline I used when working with avalanche rescue animals in the field. Reliable Communication With a background in high-level operations, I value direct, clear communication. You’ll receive regular updates and photos, and you can trust that I am following your specific feeding, medical, and behavioral routines to the letter. Frequently Asked Questions Where will my dog spend most of their time? During the work week, your dog will be with me at my retail store in Cumberland. They will stay in a quiet office area behind the scenes, providing them with constant companionship throughout the day. At home, they have full access to a focused, quiet living space and a fenced backyard. How many walks will my dog get? I provide two primary structured walks: one before we head to the store and one after we finish for the day. During the workday, I provide regular outdoor potty breaks and fresh air. This routine is best for dogs that enjoy a "settle" routine during business hours and look forward to their exercise at the bookends of the day. Will my dog be left alone? Rarely. Because I can bring your dog to my workplace, they benefit from near-constant supervision. If I do need to step out for an errand where dogs aren't permitted, it is never for more than a few hours. This makes my setup a great fit for dogs that prefer having a human nearby. How do you handle "reactive" or high-energy dogs? I am very comfortable with dogs that have "big" personalities, thanks to my experience fostering for the SPCA and training SAR dogs. However, because I work in a retail environment, your dog should be comfortable with occasional ambient noise and seeing new people from a distance. I focus on maintaining the boundaries and commands you’ve already established to keep them feeling successful. What is your protocol for safety and emergencies? I treat safety with professional discipline. This means staying hyper-aware of our surroundings and ensuring all equipment is secure. Should an emergency arise, I have the experience to stay calm, and I will immediately contact you and your designated vet while following established emergency protocols.

Information Sean K. would like to know about your pet

Pre-Booking Information To provide the best and safest care possible, I like to have a clear understanding of your dog’s unique personality and history. Since your dog will be joining me in a retail office environment, please let me know the following before our Meet & Greet: Public/Retail Comfort: How does your dog react to seeing strangers or hearing ambient noise (e.g., doors opening, music, or muffled conversation)? The "Settle" Ability: Is your dog comfortable relaxing in a designated spot or on a bed for a few hours at a time while I am focused on tasks? Reactivity: Does your dog have any specific triggers on-leash or when seeing people/dogs through a window or doorway? Standard Routine: What are their typical meal times and how do they communicate when they need a potty break? Health & Safety: Are they up to date on vaccinations, and do they have any allergies or medical conditions I should be aware of? Separation Profile: How do they behave if I need to step away for a brief moment (e.g., to assist a customer in the front of the store)?

A typical day

Daily Routine Our day starts with a structured morning walk to get the blood pumping and the mind engaged before we head out. Your dog then joins me at my retail office, where they enjoy the companionship of a steady workday routine and regular outdoor potty breaks. Because they are with me at the shop, they are rarely left alone. After work, we head home for another walk or some dedicated time in my fenced backyard, followed by a calm evening of companionship. I mirror your dog's existing feeding and medical routines as closely as possible to keep their stress levels low and their spirits high. What fun activities will you do with the pets you watch? "I focus on 'quality' engagement rather than just passive time. Fun looks like: Structured Exploration: Using my SAR background to let dogs sniff and explore safely on-leash during our walks. Backyard Enrichment: Supervised play or light fetch in my secure, fenced yard. Mental Focus: Practicing the basic commands and manners you’ve already taught them to keep their minds sharp. Wind-Down Time: Plenty of belly rubs and quiet companionship.

Pet care experience

My Experience: From Search & Rescue to the SPCA I’ve had dogs by my side since I was a kid, and they have always been a huge part of my life. My experience goes beyond just being a pet owner; I’ve worked with dogs in high-responsibility environments where safety and clear communication were the top priorities. Professional Handling: I spent years as a handler for an avalanche rescue dog, training them from a puppy into a working professional. This gave me a deep understanding of canine body language and how to stay calm and in control, no matter the situation. Behavioral Support: I also volunteered my time fostering dogs for the SPCA—specifically those that needed extra help with manners and socialization before they could be adopted. They would stay with me for months while we worked on building their confidence and basic skills. A Personal Connection: My own dogs have passed away, and I genuinely miss the companionship. I’m looking forward to providing a safe, attentive home-away-from-home for your pets while I have the time to help out.

My dog Stella stayed with Sean for a week. As a recently adopted rescue with some leash reactivity and a few unknowns about how she'd handle new situations, I wanted to find someone I felt confident could manage her appropriately. Sean's history with dogs gave me that confidence, and Stella ended up being in good hands. When I picked her up, she was a happy relaxed dog and I really appreciated that Sean worked with her on some of her manners. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Sean!

Sean and his wife are wonderfully warm and welcoming. Our dog was comfortable right away in their home. Sean has previous experience with training and caring for his dogs. Our boy had just received surgery and Sean was respectful of his aftercare. I enjoyed the photos they would send me. When the time comes I would definately call them again!

Sean has been a great dog sitter with our dog Lucy. She loves going to Sean's place. He's been a reliable dog sitter and a person our dog truly loves to see.
