Pet care experience

DVM/PhD Student All Animal Care!

Animals have always been the center of my life. I'm currently a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and PhD student at North Carolina State University, where I focus on animal health and welfare. Before returning to veterinary school, I spent over a decade leading teams in the technology industry, so reliability, communication, and professionalism are second nature. Whether your pet is an energetic puppy, an older parrot, an independent and opinionated cat, or a shy saltwater goby, I take care of them all. For every single animal, from a senior who needs a slower pace or simply loves extra attention, I'll care for them as if they were my own. I understand normal pet behavior, can recognize when something doesn't seem right, and I'm comfortable administering most medications if needed. While you're away, you can expect: Frequent photo and video updates Prompt communication Play and engagement tailored to their energy level Plenty of affection and enrichment Respect for your pet's routine and training I know leaving your pet with someone else can be stressful. My goal is to make both you and your loved one feel completely at ease from our first meet-and-greet through the moment you return home. I look forward to meeting you and your best friend(s)!

I can’t say enough good things about Sarah. She’s watched our dogs multiple times now, and every single stay has been flawless. From the first meet-and-greet, it was obvious she reads dogs well — she picked up on their quirks within minutes and adjusted without me having to explain a thing. She’s a veterinary student who’s simultaneously pursuing a PhD in infectious disease, and that clinical background shows. She notices things most sitters would miss: subtle changes in appetite, energy, gait. She’s meticulous about medications and feeding schedules, and she keeps the house as clean as she found it. When one of mine had an off day, she flagged it early, explained what she was seeing in plain language, and checked in until it resolved. The updates and photos are consistent without being excessive, and they always show genuinely happy dogs. That’s the real proof — mine are relaxed when I get home, not wound up or anxious. They actually seem disappointed when she leaves. If you want someone who treats your dogs like her own and brings real medical knowledge to the job, book her before her schedule fills up. Highest possible recommendation.

Sarah loves dogs. It is as simple as that. She has eight and treats them like royalty. Would highly recommend her for any dog care needs.

Schedule

My dissertation-writing schedule gives me the flexibility to provide dependable, individualized care without rushing from place to place. Caring for pets is something I intentionally weave into my day, so your dog or cat receives genuine attention, enrichment, and companionship, not just a quick stop in. I love having animals as part of my daily routine, and I strive to make every visit feel calm, engaging, and tailored to your pet's unique personality.

Safety, trust & environment

Creating a safe, enriching environment for animals is simply part of who I am. My home has a fully fenced yard where dogs can safely explore, play, and relax under close supervision. Because I share my home with my own dogs, fish, and other beloved animals, it's already thoughtfully designed with their safety and well-being in mind. From secure fencing and pet-safe spaces to keeping anything potentially hazardous out of reach, I strive to create an environment where every animal can feel comfortable and secure. I believe every living being deserves kindness, patience, and respect. Whether your pet loves to run and play, curl up for a nap, or quietly observe the world around them, I'll provide a calm, loving space where they can settle in and feel at home. My goal isn't just to "watch" your pet, it's to make them feel safe, understood, and genuinely cared for while you're away.

Pets

A typical day

Every pet is different, so I tailor activities to their age, personality, and energy level. For active dogs, that might mean neighborhood walks, games of fetch in my fully fenced yard, enrichment toys, scent games, or supervised play sessions. For senior dogs, it may be slower walks, gentle exercise, and plenty of quiet companionship. Cats can enjoy interactive wand toys, puzzle feeders, brushing, window watching, or simply having a calm person nearby if they're more reserved. Most importantly, I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is to keep your pet mentally stimulated, physically active, and emotionally comfortable while maintaining the routine they're used to at home. Whether they want an adventure or a cozy afternoon on the couch, I'll make sure they feel safe, happy, and loved.

The more I know about your pet, the better I can care for them. Before your booking, I'd love to learn about their daily routine, personality, favorite activities, feeding schedule, medications, training cues, and any fears or anxieties they may have. Please also let me know about any medical conditions, allergies, escape tendencies, or behaviors around other animals or people. My goal is to make your pet feel as comfortable and secure as possible by keeping their routine consistent and tailoring my care to their individual needs.
