farm-raised, experienced care taker
Pet care experience
Meet and greets are required so that we can ensure that we are comfortable with one another (the pets and both of us!) I have been caring for animals my entire life. I was raised on a family farm in Southwest Minnesota. While growing up, my family raised sheep, horses, hogs, dogs and indirectly lots of barn cats! I was an avid 4-Her (and FFAer) and showed and cared for all of my respective animals. With my dogs, I participated in showmanship, agility and obedience training. I have also worked as an animal care helper/technician for Richmond SPCA in Virginia when I lived there for a while, as well as at Companions Animal Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. There I helped take care of hospitalized and boarded pets. This included birds, dogs, cats and some reptiles. We of course played with the animals, walked them, gave nail trims, brushed teeth, groomed, bathed, administered medications, and fed them. While working at Companions, I became certified in Low Stress Handling at the Silver level, and completed 20 hours of study both hands on and through videos and reading). I often go back to my family's homes and watch their pets as well as the farm animals when needed. I have trained my fair share of puppies, and my dogs are currently in their senior years. I love hiking, being outdoors, and lavishing love on all furry animals. I currently have two English Springer Spaniels, 10.5 and 12.5 in age. I also had two cats, until they passed away. I have a 20 gallon community fish tank that I care for as well. I am also a mom to two humans! They are both in school now, and I find myself with some extra time on my hands. Animals are family to me, and I would love to help you take care of yours. Let's get them some play time, some walks, and make sure they get all the loving they need!
Reviews
Sarah has been a caring and reliable pet sitter. We have had Sarah watch our dog, cat, horses and goat for several days at a time. She is knowledgeable about pet behavior and health and is a good communicator. I highly recommend Sarah for your pet care needs!
Sarah Brakke is a very conscientious animal caretaker and has had experience with several different species of animals. On many occasions she has taken care of our dogs, horses and sheep for several days, doing an excellent job. She has many years of experience and has shown dogs, horses, sheep and rabbits, garnering many trophies and ribbons along the way. Working at a vet clinic for many years she polished skills such as working with people and animals as well as caring for them and recognizing when they were developing or having health issues. Sarah's own dogs are well cared for physically and mentally, I'm confident she would care for someone else's pets with the same level of competency as she has our animals and her own.
About Sarah B.
Skills
Safety, trust & environment
I would be caring for your pet in your home and around your neighborhood through walks, drop in visits and play times. I want to get to know you and your pet so that we know that we will work well together. I want you to feel safe having me caring for your furry family member and best friend, and I want to feel safe and comfortable with your pet(s). I want to see how you interact with your pet so that I can give them the type of care they are used to receiving!
Information Sarah B. would like to know about your pet
Let me know if your pet(s) have any medications, their vaccination status, special needs, or are not friendly to other animals or kids! This way I can be sure to be prepared. One of my own dogs is leash reactive, and I travel with a cross body bag of treats on our walks so that I can distract him when we pass other dogs and bikes. If this is something your dog needs, let me know! I'd love to know what names you call them, their favorite treats, and any special harnesses/collars or words you use when working with them.
A typical day
When I care for your pets, I will play with their favorite toys with them, talk to them, snuggle with them and just generally love them up. Some of my favorite things to do with my own dogs is to play fetch, hide and sneak, tug, and bubbles! I will also happily brush or bathe your dog if you desire (25 dollars per bath, paid via venmo). If you'd like me to walk your dog, or just play with them outside in the yard, I'm more than happy to do that as well.

I am a free-lance graphic designer and baker, otherwise I have been a stay-at-home mom. Both kids are now in school full time, so I find myself with time to spare. I cannot walk my own dogs, due to their mobility restrictions and age, so why not walk yours!
