I love all dogs - but I've got a special place in my heart for the funny looking ones!! I grew up with shih-tzus and fell in love with the small quirky breeds. Both of my family dogs had health issues as they aged, so I've got experience with eye drops, daily pill taking negotiations, and gentle care for our more frail babies. I currently own one 7 year old shih-tzu and together we've fostered german shepherds, pitbulls, westies, and more!! My dream is to own a large dog to take on hikes and runs, or even just play fetch at the beach, but the way I want my pets to live, I can't quite afford one yet!! I'd love to spend time with your furry friends and meet them where they're at!! I can do long walks or short ones, I'd even be happy to work on running together if your pup needs a little more. I'm active and love to be outside, but I also love being smushed up on the couch. Dogs are allowed on the furniture at my house, and small dogs are welcome to sleep on the bed with me and Otis (the shih tzu!). Large dogs are welcome on the bed to hang out, but there's just not enough space to spend the night!! Don't worry though, I'd love to set them up in a cozy dog bed right next to me while we sleep :) Dogs of all ages are welcome - from puppies to seniors. As long as they are friendly to other (smaller) dogs, I'm happy to have them.

Olivia is very kind and an experienced dog owner herself. For multiple trips, I have trusted her with my sweet girl, Maggie, who just absolutely adored Olivia! She took Mags on walks often and gave her many, many belly rubs. I loved the picture updates when I was away on my trips, and definitely have Olivia as my first choice for watching my baby! Thanks Olivia for always making Mags feel at home!

Calendar and availability

Schedule

I recently moved to Maine from Austin, Texas, where I was the Event and Logistics Manager for the Texas Book Festival. My partner is completing his residency at Maine Medical Center and I've been accepted to the University of Southern Maine's Master in Counseling program. I've deferred my start date to the summer to take some time between positions, and I'm currently around all day to hang with your pets :) Most days consist of exercise of some sort, chores, taking Otis out to see the world and ideally, crafting of some sort.

Safety, trust & environment

I currently live in an apartment and outside outings would be all done via walks! If you have an older baby with mobility issues, my complex does have an elevator and a small grassy area behind the building. If you give me the greenlight, I'd love to take your dog to my favorite outdoor spots around town (pending weather!), whether it's the beach or a hike in the woods. I don't crate my dog anymore, but I do still have a small dog crate if requested! I would also be happy to crate large dogs, but owners must provide crates. I'd love to stick to your feeding schedule and defer to your judgement on what activities your pup is up to!

A typical day

I'd love to hear your preferences and meet your pup before deciding on what all we'll do! If you've got an extrovert ready to run, we can play fetch at the beach, explore hiking trails, jog around town, or take long walks around portland. With introverted or older dogs, I'd love to start slow to build some trust before doing anything too big. At my home we'll hang out with Otis (13 lb shih tzu) and cozy up on the couch for remote work orrrr some quality TV time.

Please let me know if your dog is reactive to other dogs or people. I can't take any dogs home who might be aggressive to my own pet - he's only a shih tzu and he can't defend himself! If your dog has special needs for their care (medication, sensitive stomachs, specific way to be fed dinner, fears/anxieties) I'd love to chat ahead of time to make sure they're as comfortable as possible.
