I love pups and angsty teens!

Pet care experience

I raised and trained my 4 year old Bichon and 2 year old Retriever. My days off are spent at the dog park, advocating with guidance, careful separation, and facilitating healthy play. So, as you can see, I am "the mom friend". I am familiar with puppies, adolescents (my favorite stage), and adults. Them land-shark teeth don't scare me!

Melissa first started pet sitting my elderly chihuahua as a teenager. My little chi was very picky about who she trusted but Melissa won her over with her gentle voice and patient personality. I've also had the pleasure of meeting her furbabies and witness the bond she has with them. She is an wonderful pet owner and that come across whenever she interacts with other pets and parents at a dog park or even on walks with her own babies. Melissa is friendly, calm and caring. Melissa's love for her dogs is impressive but what is astounding is her care for other's. Your dog will be loved as her own for the time she is with them. Watching her interact with all the pets at the park, it's clear these animals are a passion for her. She goes out of her way to make sure each dog she comes across is seen and heard, is always willing to stop and chat with pawrents about their babies.

Much of her time is spent talking about dogs, playing with dogs, thinking about dogs. She is always excited to learn about their behaviors and training methods. I would describe her as a "helicopter mom" at times, she truly cares for their well being.

Melissa is a dog lover through and through. She's compassionate, caring and cautious. She's patient on walks and lets the doggies get out all of their sniffs and energies. She always picks up the poo! She has two wonderful dogs of her own that she's very conscientious about and they are crazy about her!

Safety, trust & environment

I will be mindful of any potential hazards (escape artists, eating weird things, ect.) Your pets will always be approached with respect. I'm vigilant about body language and anything that may be "off". Refresh dishes by washing them out and replacing food/water if needed. Whatever other need, I will try to meet. It will be as if I were never in your home, but your pup was well loved. Boundaries with Walks - For their saftey, I only walk one dog at a time -No choke or prong collars on dogs that pull or have triggers. -Collars and harness must be well fitted -Leashes with hand loop or waist-belts preferred. I do have my own leashes for small and bigger dogs.

Information Melissa D. would like to know about your pet

Allergies or special needs? What level of training and socialization has your dog received? Are vaccines updated? If your dog is reactive, what are their triggers? Flight risk? Breed? I am familiar with toy, retriever, and companion types.

A typical day

“Sniffaris" and brain games are my go-to. Especially for pups/teens! But if my new friend just wants to chill, we can stroll along the neighborhood or gossip on the couch.
