Safety, trust & environment

At home, I share life with two wonderful companions: Gus, my gentle Maine Coon mix who became my gardening sidekick after finding me one summer in the Franklin Park neighborhood, and Dennis, my sweet and shy miniature poodle whom I fostered and then adopted. I’ve fostered several dogs this year and have loved and learned from them all. Each has their own story, and together they remind me daily of the joy pets bring into our lives.

Information Melissa C. would like to know about your pet

Please share anything that will help me keep your pet safe, calm, and happy during walks or drop-ins. If your dog tends to be anxious, vocal, or a little stubborn on walks, I can absolutely handle it—especially if I know what to expect. I often use a gentle “retreat and reroute” method (a trick I picked up from a very spirited Jack Russell I once cared for) to help dogs reset and feel more at ease. It’s also helpful to know about any triggers—like certain dogs, areas, or situations—that might make your pup uneasy. And for smaller dogs, I’m happy to scoop them up briefly if that’s your preferred approach. For cats, it helps to know their favorite hiding spots, play styles, and feeding routines. Some cats love feather toys and interaction, while others are happiest with a quiet check-in, a clean litter box, and fresh food and water. Knowing their comfort level with new people ensures I can respect their boundaries and give them the kind of care that makes them feel secure. The more I know about your pet’s personality, quirks, and routines, the better I can tailor our time together to make it safe, positive, and enjoyable for everyone, especially your pet.

A typical day

I care for my own pets—and any in my home—with love, attentiveness, and respect for their unique routines. From my housemate’s cat to my own shy miniature poodle, I’ve learned the importance of honoring each animal’s personality, needs, and preferences. I bring that same level of care to every client visit. Whether I’m walking your dog or checking in on your cat, my goal is for your pet to feel safe, comfortable, and happy while you’re away. I also treat your home with the same respect I give to my own. Clear communication and a detailed list of your pet’s routine and preferences allow me to provide consistent, trustworthy care, giving both you and your pet peace of mind.

Melissa is an amazing pet sitter! She took such great care of my dachshund and treated him like her own. I felt completely at ease knowing he was in safe, loving hands. She’s reliable, attentive, and clearly loves animals. My baby was happy, well cared for, and comfortable when I got back. I couldn’t ask for a better pet sitter and would absolutely recommend Melissa to anyone looking for someone they can trust with their pet.🐾💙

As Tina said, "you're simply the best, better than all the rest!" When it comes to pet sitters, the same holds true for Melissa. She's a god send! Thank you so much Melissa.
