Pet care experience

Your pet is my new best friend

I’ve taken care of every sort of critter since I was a little kid and have always been passionate about making animals a part of my life. This includes puppies, dogs with disabilities, blind cats, animals needing medication, and lots of animals with big personalities-I even have one my self (Australian blue healer). I have volunteered all over the country at different shelters while traveling and have worked for shelters and animal ranches. You could say I know a thing or two about animals. My dogs are essentially my kids and come on almost every adventure with me. With clients, I treat their dog exactly how I expect others to treat my furry ones when I’m out of town. If there is anything special that you’d like to let me know, then I am all ears.

Kayla was an exceptional sitter for Olive. On very short notice, she was able to meet up and take Olive on adventures for 2 days while we were in the National Parks around Moab. A great communicator, and flexible with drop off/pick up timing, I would highly recommend Kayla. If we ever need a dog sitter in Moab again, I hope she'll be available. Olive misses her :-)

This was last minute sitting while visiting in Moab. Mckayla was very patient and flexible while working with us. Spoiled Rowan! She got to go on a hike and to the river.

McKayla was great! Ari, our 5 month old pup had a great time! We’d definitely recommend her to anyone visiting Moab. Ari got a great dog vacation and it allow us to pursue a couple epic mountain bike adventures. Win win. Thank you McKayla!

I feel saddened to write a review like this but I felt people need to be informed before booking with Mikayla or her partner Jason who is also on Rover in Moab. When I looked up “doggy day care” in Moab only 4 available sitters came up. 2 of them were Jason and Mikayla. I interacted with Mikayla via messenger app and felt good about our online interactions. She was prompt to reply and offer suggestions. However, when I arrived at a local park where she asked to meet it soon became clear to me that what her and her partner were advertising was not what I would be getting. The park has clear signs “no dogs allowed” and in fact a local officer made a comment to us about it. The young, plump cheeked, bright woman in her photos is not the woman I met in the park that day. She appeared very unwell to me and disheveled. As soon as I left my pup with her I felt like I was going to burst into tears. My gut was trying to communicate with me so I listened. I looked up her reviews more closely and came upon one which was enough evidence for me to turn around and get my pup. When I asked her about this poor Rover review she was very honest with me but it still didn’t feel right. I asked her point blank “so it seems to me from all the information I’ve gathered that you and Jason do not live on a ranch as advertised but in fact you are transients living in your vehicle, is this correct?” She did say “yes, that is correct. We spend the day here at the park and go park and sleep at the ranch. Does any of this make you uncomfortable?” That didn’t sit well with me, I did feel uncomfortable, and I ended our time then. When I first saw rates of these two they were about the same “from $160 per day” but after I booked her and looked again for other Rovers her rate went up to $200/ day while her partner remained at $160. That didn’t sit well with me either. These two clearly are trying to get their needs met and I feel incredibly saddened that it is done in such a manner. Make an informed decision that is right for you. Ask the questions you need in order to feel safe. This was not the right fit for me but it may be for you.

I spend most of my free time rock climbing and adventuring outdoors. I also love to read and paint, so if your dog isn’t as active, I will certainly lounge around with them :)

Safety, trust & environment

All of my pets get better care than I think most dogs ever get and your dog will be treated just the same! My dogs are always involved in every activity and never feel left out. They all love to learn, play, walk, adventure and of course get snacks! Just let me know how you normally take care of your dog and we can make it work!

Pets

A typical day

I have taught my dogs many tricks and love pets that like to learn. It’s fun to see them try to figure it out. I love to go on hikes in all the lovely nature areas here and often take my dogs to the creek to go swimming. I also take my dogs with me when I go climbing or rafting. Let me know if your dog is an off leash dog or a leash critter. Either works!
