Island Vacation
I've been a dog trainer/lover since I graduated from my first obedience school, at the age of 8. I got my girl scout badge for pets, and I've been caring for, training and loving animals ever since. I graduated with a degree in Environmental Science, and qualify (on the national--federal-- jobs register) as a Wildlife Biologist. When your dog comes to me: Your dog will love being out where there are new, lovely, country smells! Walking through trees and near the ocean, this area is at once stimulating and calming to animals. Your dog will return rested and well exercised. Sleeping where there is no sound of traffic--quiet is the main sound you hear. At night--stars in the sky when we walk. During the time of Covid-19, I am not accepting in home stays for your pet. AND, I can make your vacation so very enjoyable, by visiting your vacation residence and walking your pet during the hours that you play. OR, I'll hike and picnic with your pet for the entire time you are out whale watching or dining or ??? and you can pay my day rate for sitting. When I come to your dog: I now have the flexibility in my life to travel to your home and care for your home and pet. Often pets are much more comfortable in their own home. I can provide that safety for you. And as a career teacher, I've been background checked and am reliable and safe. (Sorry-- in this time of Covid-19, I am currently unavailable for this service.) You will notice that my "return customer" score is low. Orcas is a tourist driven economy, and most of my customers are vacationing here on the island. Often I will take a dog for the day while their "parents" go out to enjoy a whale watching trip. Or, I will have a dog for the week or weekend while their owners enjoy a wedding or other event, or stay at a resort that doesn't allow dogs. So while you enjoy your vacation, my place will truly be an island vacation for your dog! The dog is a special creature. They remind us how to love. They ask for so little from us. They give so much. Marta was very communicative and Phil, too! Fritz had a great time exploring the island with Phil, who took him on walks and a great adventure. They were also very flexible in the meeting point and drop-off/pickup. Thank you for your excellent care (and tips abt the local area).
They took amazing care of our pup while we were whale watching! They both care so much and it is clear by the extra lengths they went to ensure Apollo felt comfortable at their home. We arrived by ferry and they opened their home to a meet and greet and to ensure Apollo would be familiar with the space before our trip the next day. Apollo had a great time! We are very grateful for their help. Would highly recommend them!
Marta is a wonderful dog walker! My dog immediately took to her and her partner, and they were off on an adventure! My dog can be hesitant to go along with strangers, so this was a big deal! She is very prompt in her reply, a great communicator, and arrived in a timely manner! Definitely would recommend to anyone needing a dog walker on Orcas!
Where to begin? Marta took on two dogs that have only been watched by our family since we brought them home six years ago. This was a new experience for all of us and she treated them as if they were her own dogs. She made it her mission to know everything about the dogs that she could and asked to meet them before she took care of them. She allowed the dogs to get to know her on their terms and they loved her from the very beginning. I saw pictures and videos of things she was doing with them that is nothing short of a miracle, these two had major separation anxiety and they felt at home with her. She is patient, kind, her empathy never ending. She is an exceptional professional and we will certainly miss her since it was a destination wedding for which she helped us out.
Marta did a really great job with Elrond and was awesome at communicating with us, even giving tips of places to visit on the Island.

A typical day
Like to interact with my dogs. Please bring a favorite toy, if you like, we will play. Exercise is important to me, and to your dog. We will walk. I like to help your pet to maintain their routines. Animals feel safest when they know the boundaries of their environment, and the expectations of what is happening. They like to have things happen in the same ways and at the same times.
