Despite the occasional neighbor dog walks as a kid, I have taken care of my rabbits for several years as a teenager, which taught me about the beauty of sharing your life with animals. As an adult, I have lived with my housemate's pets (both cats and dogs) for several years, providing help to their owners when needed, joining for walks, giving lots of cuddles, and keeping a second eye on the wellbeing of the cuties. Since I live in Wageningen, I have two years of experience taking primary care of the most wonderful cat, who has added so much joy and love to my life. Getting to know her, understanding her needs and boundaries, ways of communication, and typical behaviours have helped me understand and recognize signs of her wellbeing. Unfortunately a year ago, at the age of 14, she had to be put down, after a difficult time of looking after her when she was sick and needed lots of assistance. While I do not have any specific skills, I have learned about the care of pets over the years by living with different cats and dogs. I have learned to maintain a healthy respect towards them, to give them time to get accustomed to me, and prioritize their boundaries over my love for cuddles. I care for the pets in my life, no matter if it's the neighbour's cat that comes to enjoy the sun in my garden, the dog that I walk once a week, or your pet that I might look after.
