Walks & visits filled w/ fun & love
Pet care experience
I grew up living with 2 dogs at a time in sizes ranging from beagles to huskies. I adopted my dog, Josie, in February of 2020 and she is my LIFE! I know how much others’ love their dogs and how worrying it can be to trust a stranger to care for them - I treat every dog with the same care and love as my own. Aside from dog ownership, I have experience volunteering and fostering dogs with Nashville Humane Association; I passed their dog and cat training and fostered 5 dogs before I adopted by Josie from NHA. Walks are often dogs’ only chance to leave the small world of their home. I’m a big believer in letting them explore (on-leash) and sniff as much as they want! Sniffing is incredibly enriching and can provide as much mental stimulation as a walk itself. I love letting dogs see more of the world and discover new things! A past roommate had a deaf dog who lived with me for a year; I am able to communicate with dogs in sign language. I know sit, down, stay, play, toy, no, good/yay, and am very open to learning more if needed! I also have experience with cats. I had a cat of my own who I miss very much and catsit for my friend at least once/month.

I live for my dog and treat her as well as I would a child. Her happiness and safety is my utmost priority, and I believe in treating someone else’s dog the same way when they are in my care. My dog loves getting exercise, but I do not push her when she gets tired or wants to go back home. She is very nervous around noisy trucks and cars, so we plan our routes to avoid busy roads and possible triggers. I know how to perform the heimlich maneuver on dogs and the different ways to break up dog fights. I have experience administering medication via food/treats, eyes, ears, and topically. I will let you know if your dog exhibits any concerning behaviors (coughing, diarrhea, vomiting, head shaking, etc). I am patient & loving and will not rush a slower dog through their walk. I keep a close eye on dogs when they are chewing on toys/treats and do not let them put anything in their mouth that may be a hazard (like a bone that’s too small for chewing). If you are training your dog and would like certain behaviors reinforced/corrected, I’m happy to help, but I don’t believe it’s my place to punish someone else’s dog. Similarly, I know how important it is to keep some dogs on their diets or away from certain foods - I will not feed your dog anything you haven’t approved.

For walks, please let me know if it is okay for your dog to say hi/sniff other dogs we may come across, if they are a puller, if they wear a special kind of harness or collar (so I can look up a tutorial to put it on if needed), if there are any streets or areas we should avoid on our walk, if they are anxious/fearful of anything we may encounter, if you’d like me to bring water on the walk, if you’d like me to reinforce or discourage any walking behaviors, if they are leash aggressive/reactive, and where you keep the poop bags and towels that may be needed to clean dirty paws. NOTE: I will not walk leash aggressive dogs. If your dog lunges at other dogs or people and behaves aggressively, please have them trained before having someone else take your dog for a walk. For house visits, please let me know if they are an escape artist, if they are possesive of their food or toys, and where you keep towels that may be needed to clean dirty paws.
A typical day
I love to let dogs lead the way on walks! If you have a route you’d like your dog to take, we can stick to that, but otherwise I find it fun to let a dog decide which direction to start out with and what streets/paths to turn on. When it comes to home visits, it all depends on the dog - if they are low energy and just want to snuggle or receive pets and scratches, I’m all for it! If they are high energy, I love to play with their toys, play chase in the yard, and help tire them out.
