*First time on Rover? Use my promo code and you’ll save $20 on your first booking with me! JOSHUH24306 If you are new client considering boarding with us for the first time, I highly recommend booking a daycare prior to your requested dates! This allows you and your dog (and us at home) to become familiar visiting our place. (Reduced daycare rate available for pre-boarding trials.) My background: While at WMU studying for my bachelor degree in Behavioral Psychology I worked at the Kalamazoo County Animal Shelter. I am very comfortable working with all sorts of breeds and temperaments of dogs and approach all with love and compassion. I purchased my home in Midtown in 2020 and started pet caretaking full time in 2022. Now, entertaining and working with dogs is engrained in my daily routine. I love to play host to all new furry friends that need a place to hang while their humans are away! I live with my partner, Megan, and together we make every accommodation necessary to ensure guests dogs are comfortable and happy during their stay with us. It is my goal to become a professional dog trainer & I believe this will be very helpful in my pursuit to accomplish that dream. Training is a strong passion of mine. Bonding with dogs through training, and watching the growth and progress develop is very rewarding to me. Photography has always been a hobby of mine also, and I promise to send you our favorite moments I capture while we’re together along with consistent updates with how their time away with us is going. I'm here for you & your fur children whenever you need me!
Reviews
My pup is always so tired in the best way! It’s so nice to have somewhere close to work to drop her that I know she’ll be taken care of and have tons of play opportunities!

Josh is truly one of the best sitters we've ever had. He goes above and beyond to care for every dog in his home, and you can tell he genuinely loves what he does. He’s incredibly attentive, keeps the dogs entertained, and always makes sure they’re comfortable and happy, not just crated and ignored like some places. We always get updates and pictures throughout the day, which gives us so much peace of mind. I did notice he has one negative review (out of 300), and honestly, I hope people don’t give it much weight. It really seems like it was written in bad faith... probably by someone trying to get their money back after a last-minute holiday booking. It couldn't be further from our experience. Every time we pull onto Josh's street, our dog gets visibly excited because he knows he’s going somewhere fun and safe. I highly recommend Josh to anyone looking for a sitter who treats your pets like family.

Joshua was great with my pups and understood them well. He’s a very knowledgeable and compassionate dog person. I know my young Aussie is a handful, and I appreciate Joshua’s patience. My dogs obviously had a blast with their new friends. I highly recommend him!

Joshua was fantastic. Took great care of the girls, accommodated a last minute request for care and even picked up and dropped them off. Would definitely recommend for services in the Grand Rapids area.

Information Joshua H. would like to know about your pet
I’m interested in knowing what activities they like doing for play time, and also if you could write out the commands they already are trained to know is very helpful! Feel free to share with me any training you’re currently working on, I can help further reinforce the behavior you’re working on if you share with me your goals! Lastly, it’s helpful to know If they have any triggers (i.e. resource guarding, leash reactive, allergies)
A typical day
I am an avid hiker and love going on walks through neighborhoods. I am excellent at frisbee and playing toss! Car rides are a favorite as well. At the “GR Hostel for Hounds” (aka our home =P) the freezer is always stocked with peanut butter Kongs and we have lots of interactive treat toys to play with.

Availability
The average day we wake up around 7am for our first potty break and breakfast for everyone. Typically we leave for our first “excursion” by 10am. Our excursions include anything from walks around Midtown, visits to Fallasburg Park, or a car ride to Lowe’s on a rainy day. In the late afternoon/evening we also go for another adventure, usually to a place where we can run around a lot, and then dinner around 6pm. Last potty break is typically 10pm.
