Long Distance Hiker For Dogs

Pet care experience

I have taken care of dogs since I was a kid. I walked dogs for pay in Boston. Dogs and I communicate well. I also have taken care of cars and understand them well. I lived with two cats; Himalayan and a Korat. I have experience with trail hikes, neighborhood walks, pee breaks, dog park visits and handling a group. Socialization of different personalities can be accomplished with the correct method. I have cared for terminally I’ll dogs and cats before. It is often painstaking and heartbreaking at the same time. It is something that I can undertake to do, and I have accompanied terminally I’ll and chronically experiencing pain to an animal shelter to be euthanized. I had sought to foster this rescue dog after abandonment and had given him pain medication for what was a chronic and constant spine/skeletal injury or condition that may have precipitated the dog’s abandonment. I have had terminally I’ll dogs pass away at home. I also had a cat pass away at my home (estimated to have been 15 years old).

Jonathan took care of Joy with detailed attention and provided several daily reports about her exercise, behavior, and even her bodily output. He is super responsible, and I would entrust Joy to his care again.

Jonathan was a fabulous sitter for Mitsey, a 5 year old Yorkshire Terrier whom I had recently adopted. I was camping at Pittsfield State Forest and Jonathan met me there around 8 AM and we walked a round a little so Mitsey could get used to him. I was going to a concert at Tanglewood and lunch after so was meeting him around 3 pm to pick her up. Jonathan spent time with Mitsey out doors and also in his home and gave me some good advice about helping her with some of her activation difficulties. Mitsey was in good spirits when I picked her up. I highly recommend Jonathan!

Safety, trust & environment

I assess the pet’s socialization with people and other pets. I provide a situation that will allow the pet to feel safe. I provide an environment that can be full of activity or quiet and restful. Developing a relationship geared towards the pet’s personality.

Information Jonathan B. would like to know about your pet

It is important for me to know the dog’s age and experience with 1) other dogs, 2) other dog walker/sitters and 3) dog’s demeanor towards non household members. A puppy or younger dog who is in training by the owner or another trainer will be looked to for assessment of behavioral and social needs. I have worked with Rottweiler dogs and Rhodesian Ridgeback. These breed were pets but have some much physical strength that they need very careful interactions.

A typical day

I work with activities the dog enjoys. Fetch with a ball or object. Frisbee with some dogs involves retrieving the frisbee from mod air. I used to live with a border collie who enjoyed catching frisbee in kid air. Swimming is also a lot of fun in areas where it both safe and not intrusive to others. Walking and practicing waiting on leash is tedious but on leash walks can involve alot of communicative opportunities for both the dog and the handler. Doing group walks is a social experience for the dogs that involves me as a sort of chaperone/facilitator of socialization.

I am hoping to develop dog walking into a career that can help me resume the professional practice of law. I enjoy spending time with dogs, and hope to develop this into a career I continue even while practicing law.
